Well as beats 1 is basically the Radio 1 we get in the UK, maybe Beats 2 will be the equivalent of Radio 2, which I listen to as background noise most days.

PS I'm not some old duffer, I got up at 6am yesterday to watch the Live stream of the last ever show at the House of Blues, LA, to see Steel Panther jamming with Bliiy Ray and Miley Cyrus! :)

Id say its more like Radio 1 after 9pm when the specialist music shows start. Radio 1 in the day is based off playlist chart fodder and has DJ's aimed at idiots and "zany" breakfast shows for morons. Thankfully B1 does away with all of that and just plays music.

I think that works for Radio 1 though - whilst the daytime stuff is predominantly chart orientated, quite a bit of stuff from the evening shows does spill over into the daytime shows. And that's probably a great way for kids who tune in for chart stuff get a bit of exposure to other stuff, get a taste for more music, and tune into the evening shows.

I remember basically going from the chart show > Annie Nightingale's Request Show > John Peel when I was in my teens.

This simply is_not_true.

I don't really like rap, but listen to it quite a lot.

Even Ebro's show isn't all hip hop and rap.

You know all the playlists are right there in the public domain?

Yes, it is. Every time I try B1 it's hip hop/rap/whatever it is called. Maybe some electronica pumped in. But I think I've heard maybe 2 rock songs.

Just tried it again this AM and it was Ebro. 100% Rap/Hip Hop. Snoop, NWA, and someone else was all I could muster before I had to turn it off. Just popped over to it in iTunes. Same thing.

So, yeah if you like those forms of music, it's for you. If you like anything else it's not for you.

And you get to listen to all the annoying antics of radio (including crappy DJ's talking over your sings and making "funny" jokes) too.

I'll pass.

In fact beats 1 provides me several songs I would like to listen more than once or twice, and I have purchased them.

I think this might be the purpose of beats 1.
It's the purpose of all radio stations in general..from the POV of the artists and labels

I keep missing those one hour breaks between the all day rap and hip hop marathons. I just tuned in a few minutes ago and it seems to be an hour long interview of a girl who came out of the closet. That's way better than just playing music.

She must have had a really good crap if she could talk about it for an hour.

I have a fairly broad taste in music, with a slight preference to the whole rock genre.

There is a fair balance between the mainstream genres. Julie Adenuga has had guest djs 'take listeners to rock clubs' and I surprisingly love that segment.

Zane seems to play a fair amount of different genres as well.

Overall I think it's great CONCEPTUALLY, but like many on here I'm finding that every time I turn it on I hear mostly hip-hop and rap. This new feature seems like a GREAT way to discover other shows on the station that I wouldn't normally listen to. I tend to only have the opportunity to turn it on during the morning and afternoon drive time (eastern time) and haven't been a huge fan of what I've heard. Up until reading this comment thread I'd never even heard of the Alligator Hour or the Elton John show. So this new feature will help a crap-ton.

If charts and trends were being followed the music would mostly be Country followed by Classic Rock. The decision to play hip/hop-rap is based on the likes of the DJ's. Maybe I'm stating the obvious but its not Beats 1 playing the music you do or don't like its the DJ's currently employed playing the format. They play what they like and they introduce you to music you may not have listened to prior. Over time, with the space for more Beats Radio stations, I'm sure they will make space for more genres of music so you can tune in to something you do like.

Personally, I've been loving Beats1. I didn't think I would, because I was assuming it would be 100% pop music ... although I do like Ke$ha.

Turns out, I've not heard a single time that Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Justin Beiber or Miley Cyrus played on B1. Yes, they do play lots of Rap/Hip-Hop and R&B. If you don't like those genres, then Ebro's show is probably not for you. Julie Adenuga (sp?) plays a nice mix of R&B and other stuff. I've discovered a few new songs through Julie and Ebro's shows. iTunes will get a few dollars from me the next time I buy a couple of songs.

To me, the best thing about Beats1 is that it's "human". I stopped listening to music on the radio because it was becoming a pop-fest with annoying DJs and overly-autotuned vocals. But just listening to playlists is very lonely and sterile. Beats1 has brought back a personal touch. Yeah, the DJs can be annoying when they talk over the music, but many times, they inject humor and conversation into the listening experience.

The other day, they had a show which played an entire live album of Bill Withers. I had never heard of this guy, but the album was very entertaining. And the DJ only spoke in between the track to intro the next song or add some interesting tidbit of information. I don't think I would have gotten that type of entertainment from any other source.

I think this replay feature is going to be pretty cool for me. I'll be able to listen to the shows that I miss because I'm asleep or at work or whatever.

Can't wait for Beats to expand their number of radio stations.

Could you attach a screenshot?
Do you listen to radio at least once a week?

I dunno, do podcasts stream live ? All the ones I know of get uploaded. (I always thought that was the main difference)

due to that nature you dont have live interaction ( requests , call-ins, etc)

I also haven't found a podcast yet that plays extended playlists of music ( there might be one out there who knows) they seem to mostly focus on commentary.

I think Coverville is a podcast that is music centric and not a talk show podcast.

How about a triple A format (adult album alternative) Beats station? We used to have one in my market and it played great alternative/indie music, singer/songwriter stuff. Then Clear Channel decided to turn them into a Hot AC (adult contemporary) station just like another non-Clear Channel station we have. So every time you turn it on its playing Taylor Swift or Kelly Clarkson. Yuk.

Apple Music and Beats Radio are some of the most pointless and boring articles on MacRumors. Jeez...is the iPhone 6s here yet?

We could talk about Dre and how he beats women with armed guards present to keep people from intervening in his beatings, and how Apple looks the other way. That could spice up these beat(ing) posts a bit.
