Mediocre, i.e. of moderate quality. Speaking of audio quality here, not assembly. I'd say they don't make the top half, as far as over-the-ear headphones go, in audio quality. And their prices are relatively high, for that money one can buy better sound quality. There's intense competition in the segment.

Show off, yes, as in they look in a particular way (I'd describe it as glitzy) that draws attention to the user. They have that hip-hop gangsta' vibe about them, in my opinion. I expect that showing them in public is about making a fashion or lifestyle statement, not about audio quality.

I don't expect an Apple rework to be less glitzy - Apple is into mediocre, overpriced fashion tech these days.

I cant say that about mine, i really like them. I can say that i don't wear them because i think they look good out in public, i mainly wear mine at home, i have in ear buds for out and about, such as running and in public. I hope Apple expands the range and offers a better selection, they must of seen something, in order for them to have decided to announce alongside the iPhone 7, i think that they have been working on some great headphones to announce.

My $15 monoprice head phones I bought for my kids sound better in my opinion than the Beats Solos. I've loved the sound of my Focal Spirit Ones, but the build quality is crap... Looking for something that both sounds great, and is comfortable and durable now. My last pair that really fit that were my older Seinheissers.

Not to beat a dead horse but the Sony pair I referenced is worth checking out (MDR-7506). I'm not saying I wear these out on the street, but I also don't generally listen to music out when I'm walking around...people. Seems kind of counterproductive though I realize it's the norm these days.

Depends....... I actually listen to a lot of music, both portable and at home, and have several pairs of Beats that sound very good. People LOVE to just criticize Beats because its the "cool thing to do" and easy to repeat continuously what they have heard or read. People say, "people buy them because their favorite athletes or celebrities wear them and/or endorse them," or people buy them "...because they think they make them look cool" and on and on. Bottom line is this; people BUY what THEY want to buy for WHATEVER REASON they want to buy something. It is NOT my job, or anyone else's job to tell someone else how to spend their money, or what to spend their money on. It's getting really ridiculous with this "Beats Bashing" around here. You don't like the product, don't buy it. And if you have NEVER TRIED the product then STOP telling others "your opinion" of said product based on someone else's review or opinion.

For what it is worth, I have MANY kinds of headphones. I have Audio-Technical ATH-50x, Beats PRO, Beats NSpire, Street on Ear, BOSE QC (in ear and over ear), Powerbeats, Shure, BO, Sony, etc.; with NONE of what I own being CHEAP. I even own a pair of Grado's. I probably have over 10+ pairs of on ear cans, as well as 10+ pairs of in ear buds. I am constantly buying new headphones just so I can hear what's out there. The reality with a collection like that, despite what is "parroted on this forum," is the most expensive pair I own, the Grado's, get used the LEAST, and the cheapest pair I use the most, Street onEar; for cans. In ears I used the BOSE most because they fit the best and stay in my ears without discomfort.

The bottom line is, use what YOU want to use and what SOUNDS BEST in YOUR ears. I am by no means a "kid trying to be cool," and I use my Beats all the time. The only reason I don't use them more is because too much use in the sun makes sweaty cushions inside the leather on the ear cups. After a while they needed to be replaced; and they were so good I REPLACED THEM with a SECOND PAIR of Beats Pro's. Don't be afraid to buy and use something you like because of what SOME STRANGER on a web forum tells you lol. Wear, use, and buy whatever sound and best to you based on your listening style, and your listening needs.

Hope this helps.

Best,

USVet

Thanks for your detailed response. I appreciate it.

They are not an investment at all. They are a purchase. An investment is something you hope raises in value. Not gonna happen.

Not strictly true. An investment can also refer to something which is a good use of your money and that you're buying for longevity. I don't expect to be buying a new pair of high end headphones for at least 3-4 years, that's what I mean by an investment. I am investing my time as well as money.

Rumor is... they will be voice controlled.

So for example, to turn them off, you would just say "Dre Beats Off" out loud.

I hope they demo them on stage.

I like the look and feel of beats headphones. I just wish apple would invest some more money into their sound quality.
Maybe they did and that's why they are coming out with new ones?
Let's see what they say on the 7th.

Never liked beats anyway.

Have owned a pair in the past. My m50x's were half the price and WAY better.

In saying that, if Apple did fix the beats brand and make legit killer headphones, I'll definitely get a pair. For now, they're all marketing and less 'sounding great'.

.... Solo 2's came out 2 years ago, prior to the Apple purchase, and were the best on-ear headphones on the market at the time. So..........................

Apple plans to unveil new Beats by Dre products at its upcoming event set to be held on September 7, reports iGeneration. The news comes courtesy of an email that was mistakenly sent to the site from the Beats PR team, which iGeneration originally provided a screenshot for but was asked to remove.

The email announced the Apple event and specifically said "a selection of new Beats by Dre products will be unveiled."

It isn't known what new Beats products Apple has in the works, but it seems likely the company will debut both new wireless headphones and Beats headphones that adopt Lightning connectors, as the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will not have a headphone jack. Apple was recently granted a number of product certifications from the Eurasian Economic Union, and three new Beats headphone models were among them.

Apple is also working on a set of wireless "AirPods" earbuds, which are not likely to be sold under the Beats brand. It is not clear if the AirPods are going to be announced at the September 7 event, but rumors suggest they are fully wireless with no connective cord between the earpieces, much like the Bragi Dash.

It appears Apple plans to offer a range of different jack-free headphone solutions for iPhone customers alongside the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. Along with new Beats and the rumored AirPods, Apple is also said to be planning to ship its two new smartphones with Lightning-equipped EarPods.

You act like a child who spies on what s/he would get for Christmas by following MacRumors etc.
Then, when you indeed get what you already spied out, you are disappointed.

In what world does Apple owe you anything and what have you created?

There are tons of hard working people at Apple and affiliates to bring (what they think is the best) products of a certain category.

We can argue that we have different opinions about what is best, but that is only our personal opinion.
The next consumer sees it all differently. Apple has done well for me with what I do.

Whatever products were/are subpar, were discontinued quickly or I don't buy. Just trying to be objective.

Until YOU create something, sell it and have a product presentation you have no right to criticize an Apple event.

Just don't watch it and don't buy Apple products.
Lol...I'm a customer. I buy what I need....not what I want or what Apple thinks I want. Apple bought Beats. Save your new headphones for a press release and show us something great. Have a nice day bud.

The removal of the analog connector is a major step forward in what we can expect in headphone quality. For years, the quality of the audio output has been limited by the audio amplification of the phone. Power management and other issues have necessitated compromises in amplification A digital output from the Lightning connector opens the door to major performance upgrades in connected headphones. One Company, Phaz Music has already developed a family of devises to take advantage of the digital output. Features like surround sound, base boost and the ability to share are just a few of the reasons I'm excited!

My Powerbeats2 wireless have been great workout headphones. When they finally die, count me in for another set.

Ask not what Apple can do for you, ask what you can do for Apple!

Seriously though, some people get really jingoistic when talk about Apple and forget that it's a company making products for customers not a cause to be served

In case you couldn't see the lack of cords or a connection, these Beats headphones have the word "wireless".
How redundant.

Yeah, I'm excited to see what, if anything, Apple has done with them!
All the "BEATS" stigma will be gone and it will be all APPLE then! YAY!

Or, the fact they also come with cords so you can use them wired, without a charge and are otherwise indistinguishable, they have the word "wireless" in them to differentiate them.

While Beats are generally overpriced garbage, if Apple poured some legitimate research and development into either making Bluetooth audio better or lightning audio clearly superior to the analog headphone jack - and released the resulting products under the Beats brand - I could picture myself CONSIDERING buying a set of Beats headphones.

Beats will always cater to the lowest common denominator with an unbalanced, artificially bass heavy signature.

I don't want to buy yet another device that has to be charged or will work only with the new iPhone. I'm perfectly happy with my Grado IEMs with Comply Foam pads. Beats and Bose products overpriced crap. Won't wireless headphones drain the battery faster than a mini amplifier for the traditional headphone jack? What will Apple do with the real estate from that removed amplifier that makes a big deal to customers?

Instead of trying to shave a millimeter of the iPhone thickness I would rather see them reduce the size of the iPhone plus models by almost an inch in the vertical direction so it fits better in my pocket.

Leave that stuff on the package, the shelf ticket and the website, not on the actual product.

Incorrect statement for 2 years running.

It's not so much that all Beats sound like horse manure, but for the same price or $100 cheaper you get headphones with significantly clearer, bigger sound with more clarity and texture. The difference between a similarly priced pair of Beats and good pair of Sennheisers for example is like watching SDTV vs HD, you don't know what you're missing until you experience it.

It was a general comment of agreeance. When did I ever say I want them to stop selling anything based on a comment? I didn't. Don't assume or read to deep into posts, which clearly you executed.

Joueboy posted:

" If Apple actually believes that wireless headphones is the future, then they should stop selling wired headphones altogether. Make it uniform the entire product line instead of selling a bluetooth for a premium price."

You replied that you "were waiting for someone to point that out" and not only did you agree with him, but you thanked him for pointing it out. My comment, directed to both of you, highlighted that you and joueboy hadn't even hear what Apple had to say yet, just what rumors were, and even then were taking the unique position that Apple's belief in the future trend of wireless adoption required them to cease selling all current wired products.
