Only 3? Where's the other half? This worries me.

Is it not also possible that the three dummy skus are simply the skus for their displays? I know that they only typically have three actual units on display, the 13", 15" & 17", but still sell more models. The skus for the new MBPs would be 5 completely different skus.

no they wont be. we simply just open up a retail box and classify it as a display. we dont carry separate sku's for display items

Hope for an update

I really hope that there is an update Tuesday, I am returning my MBP that I got last week anyway so that I can get the new one whenever it comes out.. But I have a feeling that I might be disappointed yet again! It's a waiting game that I hate and love to play all at the same time.

I love the speculation on the boards and the anticipation and yet I LOATHE the waiting cuz.. I of course want the new chips NOW.. lol

The fact that Best Buy is just now getting dummy SKU's pretty much guarantees it wont be this Tuesday guys. They need to get it in warehouse and ship out to stores still. This Tuesday is almost certainly not it, its gonna be the 23'rd or the 2nd. Just relax a bit longer.

Apple could still announce the update and ship them at a later time. Perhaps BB is just getting ready for the shipment and the announcement could come even sooner?

They usually wait until the new models are shipping to announce so they clear the channel of old models as much as possible.

This is part of the reason they stopped announcing things at Macworld.

A little research and I found that the last february Macbook Pro update was on February 26, 2008.

February 3rd was when we got word of placeholder SKUs in Best Buy's system:

3 Weeks!

Chances:

Tomorrow: 1%

February 23: 18%

March 2: 75%

March 9: 6%

All fingers point to these probabilities after a thorough 10-member-team statistical and metaphysical analysis of various data.

I agree. Just not liking the lack of signs and rumors at the moment. Maybe that is also caused by this iPad you speak of.

I hope we do see it on the 23rd.

Although I have found this from February 15th, 2008-reports of dwindling inventories at Bestbuy.

less than two weeks before the update dropped for the Penryn Multitouch MBPs on the 26th:

3 WEEKS! I thought you were on the 23rds bandwagon earlier!?!? Have you jettisoned yourself? March 2nd means that you have started to lose all hope! We're all getting pretty tired on this battlefield of waiting on this technology release threshold.

Return

Well, being that I am a silver member, I am covered for the 14 days from purchase to return with no restocking fee, might as well exercise that option before my time is up no?

You've fallen into Steve's trap! Wait a bit longer!? We've been waiting and getting pumped up each Tuesday since the 27th! Some speculation was out even before that so March is a BIG wait for those of us that really need one but can't justify the prices of the current models.

Nice detectiving!

Every week that goes by, the more rational posters put their predictions further and further back. I suppose it makes sense to not get everyone pumped into a frenzy that it might be earlier. It certainly looks like 23rd Feb or 2nd March. I'd go with a 40/60 split respectively.

could just as easily be some BB employee adding dummy sku's to **** with us...

I'm pretty sure you need to have some administrator authority to create a whole new category of product - so i doubt it's someone balling around.

Heh, you got that right. By 5:00 AM Tuesday this topic will be posted in once every twelve seconds, only to be followed by disappointment and grief when there isn't a release.

or the release is just a speed bump an not a processor change and 10.6.3 is loaded

I love all the anticipation for the new machines...

And I can't wait to hear all the nagging and whining when they do not have everything that everyone wants!

the joy of macrumors!

Might just be wishful thinking.. but doesn't Apple like to advertise their Macbook Pros as a "family" of high performance machines? It wouldn't make any sense to break up that family by only updating half the lineup.

When Apple released the unibody Pro's the 17" was not included until a few months later (although it got a minor spec bump). Don't assume anything, especially if Apple is doing a redesign (such as a 16x9 screen like the iMac). One of the models may not be ready yet.

I guess 2/17 because everyone is expecting an update on a Tuesday. Apple has updated on Wednesday when Monday is a holiday.

I'll just be happy that they're out. So long as it's the new generation of processor I'll be pleased.

I was wondering the following:
It's possible that people at Best Buy are getting the SKU's ready because they also feel an update is coming.

But then... There are only 3 of them (Each SKU is attached to an item, variant, product line, bundle, service, fee, or attachment. (Wikipedia)). How would they know that Apple would indeed have only 2 of the 3 MBPS (13" and/or 15" and/or 17") ready for updates?

Then there's also this:
The only combination (to get 3 products) possible would be the two 13" versions and the 17", which seems to be rather odd.
