I checked the skus and whatever these are for BestBuy seems to plan to have them by March 14, 2010 ( In-Stock Date). Seems to early for the ipads...

Does Best Buy typically stock new apple hardware after apple has started to sell it on their website? (Would a Best Buy stock date suggest an Apple announce date or just the day Best Buy will get a chance to start selling a piece of hardware?)

I'd guess that its the day BestBuy will actually get to sell it. For some reason a Sunday release by Apple seems unlikely...

What? March 14th? That's not even a Tuesday! They better not wait til March 16th to update, I'm getting a paid upgrade for my replacement, and I can only do that in Hong Kong and I'll be going to Hong Kong in a couple weeks. Anyone know after I get my paid upgrade replacement, do I have 2 weeks to exchange it for a new model if they come out?

not to be negative or anything but i just got back from my BB store and looked in the RSS the sku's are still active in my local store. doesn't look like tmrw for sure!

remember that in the past BB has always been about 2weeks behind normal release dates, so with this new information a la appleisgod my new estimated release date has been pushed from the 23rd to the 2nd of March, however im hoping like hell for at least an announcement tomorrow!!

March 14th could be the iPad.... I wouldn't be too surprised. I still think the MBPs will be out this month. I'd be surprised if they shipped the MBPs and iPads within a week of each other. That's a busy schedule.

March 2nd is my birthday, that would be a fun day.

But it would be even sweeter if I had a laptop by my birthday!

This is a billion dollar company we are talking about here, two products shipping is nothing to them. Busy is good this isn't some ma and pa store that just got a new shipment of firewood and everyone wants it

Dude I think those could be the iPads, the first one is due out in March for wifi and April for 3g. I hope that I am wrong...I want to get a MBP and I've become addicted to mac rumors :D

I posted this in another thread.. I was just hoping to get a answer.

So this is my first post, so my question should show how much of a newbie I am. I am looking to buy a 13'' MacBook Pro like IMMEDIATELY, as in I was going to buy one last week. However, the buyers guide on this site changed my mind.. at least for the mean time. I just have a few questions for the experts:

1) I'm a full time college student and make music as a hobby, so would whatever is rumored to be updated really worth me purchasing?

2) What exactly are the rumored changes? I don't even really know what the difference is between a Core 2 or i5 or i7, so is buying the current model that is currently out not a good idea?

3) If i purchased a MacBook Pro today, and apple decides to release a new MBP in a week, does apple do anything in terms of exchanges?

Thanks in advance.

Update is worth purchasing for anybody. Why buy older tech, when you have the ability to buy newer tech? It'll last you longer.
Core 2, means the processor has 2 cores. I5/I7 has two cores as well, but also with hyperthreading (2 extra cores). Estimations guess anywhere from a 15-25% speed increase processor wise. GPU will definitely be updated. If you buy the MBP today, you have 14 days to return the product with a 10% restocking fee.

And the fact that if the new ones aren't much of an improvement, its very likely that the older model will be discounted considerably.

I'm gonna go on a limb and say unless you need 'moar powar', then go ahead and get a system now. Sure the old stuff will be clearanced out, but not by a lot. The reality is that if you're not someone doing stuff for which you need more computing power, the current gen will do you just fine. College students, teachers, office drones, soccer(football for non-Americans) moms, general home users: these people won't notice a difference. Those who will are professional photographers/audio/video people, developers, math/stat/science geeks, etc. People who run something other than a webbrowser/QuickTime/iTunes/iLife/Office.

As someone who was originally attracted to the Mac platform because of Logic, let me say this: you've gotta really hit a level of track or synth instrument complexity making music before you'll suffer performance wise from a current gen MBP.

I'm a little confused with your statement. Why would the older model have a greater depreciation in value if the new model is "not much of an improvement"?

still it's newer (better) technology = better resale value. The i-series processors are amazing. They beat out similarly clocked C2D's as well, and they're a very good improvement IMO.. 4 threads > 2.

Hi My first post :)

I can absolutely guarantee that the refresh will be Tuesday 2nd March!

This is a sods law theory since I take delivery of my new macbook pro today (15 in 2.66) and the 2nd is a Tuesday and day 15 after my purchase:D

I am happy with what I'm getting but if it arrives in the 14 days I will assess my options and may send the current one back depending of the upgrades and price of course!

I wonder if today will be as manic as last Tuesday!

With a newer model available, the older model will be discounted.

Obviously, but your initial statement still makes no sense.

You're saying that if the new update is marginal, then the older model will be discounted considerably, which makes absolutely no sense.

However, if the new update is substantial, then yes, the older model should be discounted considerably.

I have a feeling its going to be on 2nd of march. Spot on my birthday too

so i could have excuse buying myself a birthday pressie a new mbp hehe

You're right, I typed that in a rush.
I was merely trying to point out that waiting for the refresh is worth it. If the newer models are only an incremental upgrade (i.e no i3's or i5's etc.), the current MacBook Pro models will still be discounted, as they will be the previous generation.
