iPad and MBPro are 2 products ment to completely distinct markets!

If you were talking of MB I would agree, otherwise...

Cumps

Exactly. Thats like someone saying "man i cant wait for the 2011 Toyota Corolla to come out!" and than seeing that the Lexus IS 10 just came out and saying "screw it, now that Lexus just came out with an update to their car im gana go for that instead!"

Great comparison. The idea that Apple delays one of their most profitable and flagship lines for some new, possibly failed product just doesn't pass the eye test. They are a HUGE company and often sell multiple products to the same customer.

Example - what was announce with the first iphone? Is ipad really more revolutionary than the iPhone which has set sales records and changed the mobile market?

http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/live-from-macworld-2007-steve-jobs-keynote/

They freakin announced Apple TV with the iPhone!!! Are you kidding? This piece of junk with the iPhone? There goes the non-diluted theory...

aww looking back at the release of the iphone what a sweet time that was when money ran freely and homes sold for 10x the amount they were worth john mayer wasn't a raciest and $599 on a cell phone wasn't a bad deal ha-ha dam this economy sucks but i want a new macbook pro and i want it now !! i hope tomorrow when i open my eyes and go to apple.com on the west coast i hope it says "we will be back soon"

I just had a Jimmy Neutron moment...

They could update the MBP within weeks of the iPad... IF the MBP had USB 3.0. Then there'd be all sorts of speculation on whether the iPad would come out with a USB 3.0 model. That'd rejuvenate the iPad momentum... Then Apple would have to come out with a USB 3.0 model of the iPad of course...

Why do people keep saying that the iPad will affect the timing of a MBP update? They are completely different products for completely different markets. Come on, give me one sensible reason...

I was just at my local Best Buy and the tags for the 13' and 17' MBP are gone. All that is left is tags for the Macbook and the AIR. Weird?

That's because the 13 and 17 foot models didn't prove popular :D

If a company releases more than one product at a time, then ALL of the attention doesn't go to one product. They'd stagger the release so one product gets ALL of the attention. I'm not saying I agree, but that's what they're getting at. "Different product markets" takes a back seat to "this is new with Apple".

Dizzler is right,

Apple will wait with the actual availability of Macbook Pro until iPad ships.
If they dont, they will most likely lose money. Now, it is their choice what to do, and over a long period of time, both alternatives can have different effects.

As long as there is a huge iPad buzz, they are not gonna kill it. Look at Avatar. Imagine Cameron would make another, more interesting picture during Avatar release. It would only hurt Avatar and kill the buzz.

Especially if the new MBP is somewhat revolutionary to the current MBP. We dont know what they are changing though.

So yes, mid-end of March is the MBP time, not earlier.

I bet they're waiting to release the newest Mac Pro desktops until after the release of the next iPod Shuffle. Otherwise the Mac pro's would cannabilize the sales of the shuffles. ;)

decided to try my local BB with all this hype...They have all their mbp's in stock and no new SKUs.

This post is a joke right? Am I slow?

Oh and CaptRoddick - Do you have some kind of insider info on the new shuffle? If so please let everyone know this could be holding up the release of the MBP as well. I for one won't be needing an MBP when I can do everything on my shuffle. Is there going to be iBooks? Any BB SKUs?

Of course I know all, grasshopper. The new shuffle will replace the mac pro. No monitor will be available but 3d goggles are attached to the same cord as the ear buds. The entire thing will hang around your neck so you can encode video and backup network data while running on the treadmill listening to the Black Eyed Peas. You randomly locate your files by pressing the forward or back buttons which have been conveniently moved to the top of the goggles, just inside the right eyesocket lens (for a small fee you can get your goggles in matte so you're not staring at a reflection of your own eyeballs). This add-on is going to be called iEye btw. There will be a clip on the bridge of the goggles that will hold the ipad 6 inches in front of your face and can sync through USB 4 to a socket located just above the left lens. I have a test unit in hand and several high res images from all angles but I'm sure you're ok with just taking me at my word.

In other Apple news the the mbp's will indeed be released tomorrow or next Tuesday... or the Tuesday after that and if not then it's due to a comprimise in the new iMacShuffle3DPro release schedule.

Theoretically, you are right.

I like Apple. But my wallet can never have all of it. It limits what I can buy. But my wallet gets fuller over time, so I can afford more in a longer time period. In the peak of buzz, my wallet is more likely to jump on it. If the buzz for two products is simultaneous, my wallet has to choose. If they are at a certain distance of at least a month, I get both.

So yes, for the average consumer, you are correct!

Hershey chocolate always creates competition to milk, bread and chicken right near the register, you know that. It would be fun if groceries could fight each other. Watermelone vs. featherless chicken.

What about the 15"?

I wasn't sure if the Best Buy I usually go to ever carried the 15' (I'm not sure if the tag I saw in earlier weeks was the 15' or the 17'). Either way the tags are gone, which is a little strange?

EDIT: I just checked Macbooks and MBP's along with AIRS and it seems that there are none in Connecticut Best Buy stores except for Simsbury, CT. And some of them are in none? Can anyone confirm this in another state?

Well, I hope the iMacShuffle3DPro comes with blu-ray, lightpeak, and a front facing iSight camera or else none of us "high end" apple consumers are going to be buying. Running on the treadmill while encoding "Hoosiers" while sipping a latte and reading an iBook of Pat Buchanan's Autobiography off the iPad with the matte goggles listening to Will.I.Am's latest opus and syncing all of my files via USB 4 wireless to my Prius is going to be just plain old lame if I can't watch my BluRay of "The Notebook", video chat with my cousin, and do super awesome lightpeak stuff at the same time...

Well, I'm surprised at the delay we've seen so far, but that has to end soon. I'm willing to bet that Apple will upgrade these devices much earlier than when we see the iPad release.

If you think about it, they need to ensure the geek community buy new laptops and an iPad. If they wait too long, then you'll have geeks potentially holding off on the purchase of one or the other.

There hasn't been a delay if it's not even late yet! After the 23rd we can call it late (and that will barely be accurate). The geek community isn't going to not buy the macbook pro because of the iPad or not buy the iPad because of the macbook pro - iPad is just a toy to a geek. It's only a system to someone who's not geeky. A child or the elderly will be able to use it without training, that's what the iPad is... it's every persons system. Tall, fat, invalid, regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation. Even Your Mom!

That was the post of the day :D

I check the best buy north dallas area (richardson).I just checked the 5 close to zip code 75080. All 13s are available in at least 3 different stores. The air is not available. The low and mid are available at 3 or more stores. The high end 15 shows only 1 store. The 17 is not listed on the site at all.

Still smiling...the iEye....brilliant. :D

I checked the skus and whatever these are for BestBuy seems to plan to have them by March 14, 2010 ( In-Stock Date). Seems to early for the ipads...
