So you want a USB-C iPhone to have lightning port back?
Not certain about @klasma but I was merely "doing a bit" since there's time to fill until the next products are released/announced. And my point was that it appears to me that he's doing this more to have content for viewers. And perhaps some "merch" for fans to buy.

Since the EU has mandated USB-C to be the one connector to rule them all, he is giving options to people who will likely find access to Lightning cables to become more difficult in the coming years.
True - police in Narnia already have the right to stop and search people in case they are carrying non-USB-C cables, while people are queueing up at coffee shops in Middle Earth where a legal loophole allows customers to use MiniUSB cables to charge their pipeweed vapes. The latest hit TV show in Westeros is "Game of Phones" - a fly-on-the-wall documentary about baggage inspectors showing the lengths some people will go to to smuggle OG AirPods and MagSafe 2 bricks over the Wall...

Meanwhile, back in the real world, the EU directive simply requires new devices to be capable of using USB-C (which the entire industry, probably including Apple was going to end up doing anyway) and Lightning cables will remain available as long as people want to buy them (or until Apple deems all pre-USB-C devices obsolete and pulls them from sale). Heck, under the directive, Apple could have kept Lightning as long as they added a USB-C charge port as well (just as they've kept MagSafe - which makes more sense).

i might sound like a naysayer, but the way that type-c port is arranged, that's the first thing to go to kingdom come once you drop the phone and it lands on its corner. i still have a ton of type-c to lightning cables and a few small adaptors too. this product has a finite lifecycle of 3-4 years, and it's game over afterwards.

It's an optional phone case folks.
it sure is, and so are the opinions you see here. not everything is awesome, and not for everyone as we (thankfully) are all a bit different. and this is a public space for people to express their opinions, positive or negative alike.
to quote someone famous: "innovation is to say no to 1000 things"
you can't make everyone happy, and this is just the way it is.

This is really cool. If he restocks the 12 Mini size I’m in for one.

Gonna be at least two more years for another pocket-sized iPhone. A fresh battery and a USB-C case should make the wait a bit more bearable.

That’s a lot of bulk, when you could just use a different cable instead.

In exchange for that, the case provides even better mag strength over caseless, which is really great (and welcome, for me anyhow).

Also, most every case adds some bulk anyhow, so it's somewhat of a moot point unless you're a naked iPhone person.

A naked iPhone Mini does feel like the height of luxury. It almost disappears when you put it in your pocket.

But a new case with bonus functionality sounds cool. My Apple leather case is beat up and kinda gross after five years.

I have wireless chargers to my iPhone mini - honestly I forget that it has a lightning contact totally in between the times that I do need to plug it in of some reason.

But I have a lightning charging cable hidden on my desk that I use to charge to my trackpad and keyboard. So for the exceptionally times I need to connect my mini it’s easily accessed.
My min and case looks like new. But I’m a woman, we tend to be more gentle with things...
so I will pass this case.

Good for him but sort of a silly and unnecessary product.
Not in my use case for business trips:

1 x MacBook (USB-C)
1 x MacBook charger (USB-C)
1 x AirPods Pro (USB-C)
1 x Kindle (USB-C)
1 x iPhone 14 (Lightning, oh FFS!)

Or for holiday trips with SWMBO:-

1 x MacBook (USB-C)
1 x MacBook charger (USB-C)
2 x AirPods Pro (USB-C)
2 x Kindle (USB-C)
1 x iPhone 14 (Lightning, oh FFS!)
1 x iPhone 13 (Lightning, oh FFS!)

YMMV

Not "silly and unnecessary" if you don't want a mix of lightning and usb-c cables scattered around the house just to manage older phones and newer devices.
My 14 Max Pro is still doing very well for me, but it's the sole lightning device I have.
Sure, I could stick with using a QI charger, but wired charging is faster.
Having just USB-C cables hanging around and using them for all my devices would add some definite convenience.

This point should be obvious, but for some reason it's eluding some folks.

Your situation (one or two Lightning devices still left) is not at all uncommon.

I honestly wish Apple themselves were offering cases like this.

(yes, I know ... "buy a new phone" ... not everyone wants to do that, or can afford to)
