Take my money ?

Edit:
As the dude would say "That's like, your opinion, man…”
People should be able to spend their money in whatever way they deem reasonable if it's not hurting others. It's a free market society. It is not my place to judge motive's or dictate whom has made the more righteous purchase. It's a waste of time to sit in judgement concerning this issue. Is status a reason I would purchase a device such as this? No, it is not. Good bad or indifferent, the fact is people DO make purchases based on status. How else do you explain the automotive or fashion industry.

That looks like more display space than what my local Best Buy has. They have a small table cramped with a couple of macbooks and 2 iMacs and that's about it.

Same here. I have a larger sized Best Buy and they only have a table with a few apple products.

Didn't Younkers do something with the iPod awhile back, Where they sold them in the store?
I seem to remember that at the Jordon Creek Mall in Des Moines

Now you just have to find some apathetic Walmart employee to unlock the case so you can buy one. Assuming they are the ones with a key.

Usually it's faster to drive to another state with an Apple store than buy something from Walmart that you can't pick off a shelf.

To bad Apple users do not have the people of Walmart app. Can't wait to see the various nuts hanging around the Apple kiosks.

Walmart small electronic display cases are usually half empty with a couple of beat up devices thrown in

this isn't necessarily how its going to be when they roll it out. A lot of retailers use the stores near their the HQ to test out merchandise plans and planograms before they roll them out. this way the higher ups can tour it without hopping on a plane and they can make quick adjustments.

The new iPad display at my wal-mart is a hoot. For starters, they have an iPad 2 in the case... and then the display is broken and the display is polarized. This is how I know it's still the iPad2 in there... because it's been like that for 8 months easy.

This is a good change. I hate how at Target and Wal-Mart you can't interact with the products at all. And it's finally a display in wal-mart that isn't ugly.

Use FaceTime "Connect to a Genius" in Walmarts etc.

I don't see why Apple, in Bestbuys, Walmarts, etc., does not just implement FaceTime connections to a Genius on-demand in all their iDevice and Mac display units. All Apple would have to do is set up a help desk of well-trained and FaceTime-connected people able to offer excellent advice in multiple languages. Being able to get Apple advice from a remote Genius while holding the product in your hands would be almost (but only almost) as good as visiting an Apple store. The remote-Genius experts would have to strictly adhere to only explaining Apple features, and decline to make any comparisons with competitive products, because these might also be for sale in the Walmerts, etc. The combination of attractive Apple displays and instant expertise might even become a lifeline profit-centre for some moribund chains, while still feeding the Apple money machine.

Wow I'm going to check these out later. I'll take as many pictures as possible from different angles and post them for everyone to enjoy.

Research & Development

This is nothing but free R&D!!! These will be the most punished displays in the world so this is going to be some great feedback for Apple to make their devices near indestructable. They wouldn't last a month in the Walmart near me! Most of the cameras and phones on display are trashed or missing.

I want to buy a 17" MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro workstation at Walmart. Show me the way!

In other news, AAPL is getting absolutely murdered today.

badly. Only about a week ago AAPL was at $633, now it's at $586. And I own a few shares. Still glad I bought mine at $398 and I am still ahead.

Genius.

You aren't kidding. Around here, Walmart's display products of any kind -- ANY kind -- but especially comparables like the video game stations -- are utterly thrashed within seemingly days of being put up. You haven't seen a consumer product worn out until you've seen it chained to a Walmart fixture. And I live in a racially and demographically diverse part of town so no single type of person or family is the culprit here -- they all contribute to it.

Nice displays, but...

You need to wait until the consumers mess it up, carve a few names in it and
it gets filthy. Maybe then..............

I second that. Just wait until someone wants to go in there and look at the Apple stuff that no longer has working power supplies, things are cracked, broken, and even missing. Even when things are displayed at other department stores, people forget that it's not theirs and things get really messed up.

I hope that they will at least have someone there that knows the products well enough to answer questions, but then again, most of the Walmart electronics sections are understaffed as it is.
