In the Walmart across from where I live, they had to cover all the tablet displays with a locked case, including the iPad and iPod displays. Previously you were able to pick up the tablets and play with them and see what they were like. There must have been a lot of thefts/damages going on. So I don't know how they will implement this here. And this is in a nice suburban area, this isn't the ghetto or anything. So good luck, that type of display in the picture will be destroyed within a month or two.

This is good news. The more stores Apple can have a presence in the better for their company and sales. There are still people today who either don't live near an Apple Store or don't currently own an Apple product. This is a good way to get people interested in the brand who might not have interacted with it before.

man apple is really taking over now huh!

Are they ? Or is it that the demand is high enough to justify more retail outlets? It's not like they're going to be around if no one was buying their products right ?

100% roundrec free displays and packaging. :(

That said, when you go to a drug store these days they have a display at the sudafed department where you pick up a ticket and get it at checkout. Wallyworld could do that with MacBook Air devices and other oddball items they can display but not stock at the display kiosk. All Wallyworlds have a Tobacco checkout register with physical security.

Rocketman

I can think of many more stores worst than Wal-Mart.

At least my experience with Wal-Mart, has been pretty posititive, and they actually will help you in WM's in my part of town. Fry's electronics and Best Buy on the other hand, all tries to avoid you when you need a person to get something out of a case.

I miss picking up iPods from Costco...hope they revive that partnership again...I would pick up the iPod and sit for a Costco pizza slice and read the back of the box, cant waiting to go home and open the box and fire it up...those were the good ole days..lol

The only problem is that Walmart displays a 'cheap' image. Apple is not cheap.

I'm still glad to see their products though. Imagine the customer support problems with that crowd.

my point is they aren't just available at walmart...but walmart is going to have it's own little apple store inside of it.

Can't wait for proper Mac hardware upgrade news/rumors.

My local Walmart does have iPad 3s, but not one of the 10 iPad covers in stock was iPad 3 compatible.

My local Sam's Club has iPad 3s and iPad2... wait, scratch that: they sold out of iPad3s instantly. It's sad to see the over-handled #3 display sitting there, ripped to crap, unable to charge properly, while next to it is an iPad 2 on display that looks untouched with lots of inventory still waiting for customers.

Epic fail when the fist step to this is going into a Wal Mart

Grats to Apple though for putting a shining light into the abyss

The "Media Markt" here in Holland has these stands for over 3 months already.
The alarms in these things are a pain in the ass. Going off every morning when they get reset;)

badly. Only about a week ago AAPL was at $633, now it's at $586. And I own a few shares. Still glad I bought mine at $398 and I am still ahead.

I'm so tired of people going out of their way to let us know you own apple stock and that you didn't lose money. And besides, that's about an 8-9% drop. I play with penny stocks only and those can fluctuate 10% in a matter of minutes.

These are definitely nicer than what I see at my local Best Buy. They need to put this in place everywhere.

Also--a lot of stuff is tanking right now, Google is way down today too. Quarterly earnings will kill it once again and AAPL will probably hit $650 in May.

Every time I go into a Wal Mart or Target store, the Apple product displays are beat up and out of date. The one near my house doesn't even have products on display, they have black and white photocopies taped to cardboard slices. I'm not kidding.

My guess is that Apple agreed to maintain product displays in the stores (thereby reducing loss to WM from theft/breakage) in exchange for a ton of real estate.

It's great for Apple, you want a tablet or an MP3 player? iPods and iPads can't be missed. The bargain basement knockoffs? Good luck hunting them down.

It'll be interesting to see if these displays are actually maintained. If Apple doesn't have somebody actually caring for them, I'm sure they'll be trashed in a week.

Bringing a little class to Best Buy. Nice.

Welcome to iOS... The dumbing down of Apple continues.

iOS? You mean the OS that completely changed the face of mobile and that is currently the most viable mobile consumer OS on the planet? You mean *that* iOS?

And your tools should be as simple and straightforward as possible. The iOS-ificataion of OS X has resulted in an OS that is not only as capable as it always was (you get a Unix Terminal too, how 'bout them Apples!) but which is even easier to use.

Result: a much wider chunk of the consumer market is empowered in a way they weren't before.

We need greater accessibility and usability, not greater complexity.

That looks like more display space than what my local Best Buy has. They have a small table cramped with a couple of macbooks and 2 iMacs and that's about it.

I hope Walmart will have staff capable of maintaining the displays a lot better than Best Buy maintains theirs. It'll be great if people not located near a Apple store are able to do a touch & feel before buying either there or on-line.
