I wonder how it'll handle reading text-speak (LOL, BTW, etc), massively long texts and colloquialisms. I never use Siri to read my texts, but I may try before committing to CarPlay.

For example, my bassist will often put 'lah' instead of 'mate' (don't ask :p). How would it handle that?

What's the big deal about this? I can do pretty much everything this dude does with Siri Eyes Free in my Lexus. The only thing missing is Apple Maps in the Lexus display, but turn-by-turn works fine through the iPhone while I get the Navi map from Lexus updating my position. On top of that, it's all over bluetooth without plugging in. So I don't see why this gets hyped so much.

Car integration was, apparently, one of Steve's pet projects at Apple before he left us. This explains why Mercedes are one of the early adopters, as Steve was a fan of theirs and apparently worked with them in the early days of the project.

The result looks kind-of cool, but I can't help but wonder how true it is to Steve's original vision, and how much has been watered down. I suspect it would be a little bit more polished and exciting if he had still been around to drive the project.

Conversation between Guy and Michelle

Guy: I will not be home until late.
Michelle: I will wait for you for dinner.
Guy: No, please eat with out me.
Michelle: I would like to wait for you.
Guy: You just don't get it, I will be very late.
Michelle: When will you be home?
Guy: The part where I said late is when I'll be home
Michelle: What time is that so I can wait up for you?
Guy: I don't think this relationship is working out anymore.

Reminds me of this video:

Hyundai and Samsung VehiclePlay. Coming soon after Apple CarPlay.

I'm surprised it took until the second comment for someone to say this. At this point, copying the same joke over and over makes you on par with what you insinuate Samsung does.

I could only take about 1 minute of watching everything he did three times before I ended it. Seems like they should hire a professional editor to do their commercial.

Turn by turn works better, less Apple Maps causes us to drive into bodies of water.

I'll pass on iOS in the car. Too many *******s screwing around with iOS while driving as is.

If the majority of you guys don't like it I can only imagine what a non-biased crowd would think. I won't watch the video then.

OMG That's horrid

Open the compartment, drag a wire out the box, plug in into the phone, dump the phone back in the box, close the lid, then look at a screen that look like it's some aftermarket thing bluetacked onto a nice cars dashboard.

That's just terrible looking, not built in, in the slightest, tacky and nasty

And that's without the weird do everything aspect of the whole thing (or the ponytail)

OK, Thank you Apple. I watched the video and now know how Carplay works.

In other news, the guy in charge of editing promo videos at Mercedes (who overslept again ahead of the Geneva motor show and didn't show up for work) was fired.

Apparently few people in the MR forums understand what a B-roll video is.

This is NOT a final video. This is RAW FOOTAGE meant to be edited together later. The final EDITED video will NOT have the guy entering the car three different times.

That being said, Siri needs to brush up on her German a bit.

Looks fantastic! So much better than the command center in my Benz and the flaky iPod integration kit. Can't wait for my next Benz with CarPlay!

This certainly doesn't seem like a very Apple experience, what with the pokey touchscreens. Perhaps this is Apple's car version of the Motorola Rokr, biding their time until they come out with the Tesla-Apple car.
