bummer, looks like I will have to get some Dell aluminium displays.
Apples displays have 700:1 contrast ratio with a skyhigh price. No thanks.

so where are the updated displays with iSights? Who started this rumor anyway? There are pages and pages of the new coming ACDs.....

There are pages and pages of a lot of things but yet again apple stands arrogantly still while everyone else moves on (can you tell I'm bitter :p)

A sign that new displays will be released soon

My University computer store has listed the 30 Cinema display on its clearance page with the priced dropped to $1499. No other Apple displays are listed.

New ACDs at MWSF 2008?

Has anyone heard any substantive rumor, i.e. not simply a wish, that :apple: might actually release refreshed/redesigned ACDs at MWSF 2008? It has been so long since these were updated...

Apples current monitors are quite beautiful, but that's all they've really got on the competition in terms of price, tech, connections, and maneuverability. The new Gateway 30" is very very nice. If Apple doesn't have proper monitors by Macworld, then they will definitely show up by WWDC, hopefully with higher resolutions to complement the resolution independence.

anyone heard anything that seems real re refresh/redesign?

yes this is last year's thread.

but they are due for an update

this is absolutely last year's thread and i realized when i posted that i would be resuscitating it... since i hadn't yet seen a thread about ACDs and MWSF 2008, thought i'd just pick up the thread that literally already exists...

would love to hear if anyone has seen or heard anything that seems promising - and feels real - on this front. many folks have been eagerly awaiting a refresh/redesign with iSights and various other features.

one thing to note is that the new iMacs, which contain a computer, are now actually thinner than the ACDs now. seems like :apple: would want to rectify that situation. and, even though the ACDs are undeniably beautiful, they are beginning, after more than three years, to seem a bit tired...

what is the actual possibility of the new monitors, whenever they arrive, being in the 500-700 range? I ask because I want to get a new monitor but i dont want to break my bank

Well, you will probably will be able to get the 20 inch ACD in that price range.

i figured that-so theres a very small chance of seeing a 23 or so in monitor in that range from apple?

I don't see it. If Apple follows a traditional "upgrade" of ACDs and doesn't change anything, but just lowers prices, a 23 inch ACD would have to drop a little over 20 percent just to get to your 700 dollar range.

If Apple does a true upgrade (redesigned ACDs), then Apple will probably go with a 24 inch ACD and drop the 23 inch ACD. I don't see the 24 inch ACD being priced at $699. Just not "Apple-like"!:)

yeah. they will probably keep the same prices if they upgrade them, or they might drop them by $100.

but i would love to see them in that price range

There are many large offices that don't allow cameras of any kind to be on employee's desks, for security reasons.

I wonder how this will play out in those types of businesses?

these businesses could easily disable the iSight functionality. How hard would that be for them to do that? Considering that these businesses probably are using net-boot for their computers. So, they can send a small script to these computers to disable the iSight or have a program that will only allow the iSight to be used with their approved applications.

Nice little addition, but it's not going to make or break a decision to get a display for me at least. Just makes me even more paranoid knowing there's a camera looking at me at all times.

*adjusts tin foil hat* just my .02 :p
