honestly im not even excited anymore
its turning into an android spec race phone, with iOS installed.

say what you want about iphones circa 2008-2011 'lagging' in specs, features etc relative to their android counterparts... those phones had sex appeal to them.

this just looks and feels like a nerd's toy. 'edge to edge display'. big deal.

this is why ipad pros suck. 'keyboard cover'...stylus...big deal. it sucks.
sure, theyre technical marvels....but who actually wants one?

I'll need a new phone this fall. I'll get whatever iOS phone is $600.

Once again, what do people want? It's a rectangle with a screen. You want a foldable triangle or what? This is as far as it's going to go with phones.

Hmm, using these measurements with my callipers and my 6S in its Apple leather case, this iPhone dummy is wider whilst the S8 is longer. I think this iPhone will look a million times better with an anodised aluminium colour like black or silver.

So was the iphone 4, and the iphones before it.

yet they were simple to use, made for normal people, and looked decidedly different to the DROIDs, the Galaxys of the time. a 5 year old could figure out how to use the iphone back then. today? im not sure its that intuitive.

in the same way that the iPod looked different and sexy compared to other mp3 players at the time...or how the imac looked different to the wireboxes of pcs that it competed with.

My eyes and hands say a bigger screen in pretty much the same footprint as the 4.7" is a very big deal. I don't need a new phone this fall -- bought a 7 last Nov. If the 8 is everything as rumored I'll buy one anyway. Yes, excited.

Sure it's a spec race with Android. That is the iPhone's chief compeition -- mostly Samsung Galaxy. What were you expecting? I'm sure Apple will raise the bar this year. They always do. Then Samsung retorts. Rinse, wash, repeat. Smartphones are commodities now, not bleeding edge tech.

i wish they'd differentiate themselves more and not be in the same league as the galaxy. mature tech or not, its possible.
see the mac vs pc 'race' back in mid 2000s.

i genuinely 'wanted' a mac...even though id been using computers for legit a decade already back then. and it surely wasnt because the mac had the best screen ratio, or the best processors for the price.

Am I the only on who isn't impressed with the design? It lacks a wow factor. The Galaxy S8 has a significant wow factor and it's starting to look like iPhone won't be the best looking phone on the market soon...
I agree, if they go with this it's essentially just keeping the iphone 6 design, which was boring from the beginning.

But, if you look at Apple designs since the iPhone 4, they've all sort of been duds if you ask me.

Looks great! It does look kind of chunky though.

Especially with iPhone 6 being 6.9mm, and 6S being 7.1mm. This one being 7.5mm...

I imagine it's a "conservation of mass" issue. The components have to go somewhere else if you shrink the width and height.

It's not edge to edge if it has "almost no bezels", also known as "bezels".
I want to concur here as well. I don't really need it to eliminate bezels, but don't pretend about it. If it's like what we've seen guessed at, it still has bezels.

After 2 minutes of that music, I wanted to shove two pencils in my ears right to my brain.

After having seen a few of these, I hit mute before I hit play.

That's 3 minutes and 58 seconds I will never get back.

I also scrubbed through the video rather than watch it in real time.

Additionally, for the love of all that is holy, Apple had better not call it the iPhone 8.

Why would the power button be that big???

Assuming the dimensions are correct, this is more or less the same size as the iPhone 7. That's a huge win.

That actually looks better.

Apple did nothing with the design if this is true.

I'm worried about this phone named the iPhone 8 alongside the iPhone 7s. What happens next year when the iPhone 8 is due?

I, for one, am really looking forward to a larger screen without the larger package. What Apple is probably going to do for AR is going to take Google years to catch up with. This is probably going to be a phone worth getting excited about. I keep using the word "probably" because it is all speculation still. We don't know.

I think it's all going to hinge on how little bezel there is. I don't really care about bezel, but it's clearly where high end phones are trying to innovate. Edge to edge screen is what people want, and the S8 does it on the sides but not the top or bottom.
