that concept as in the video is hideous.
i'll buy the 7s if the 8 looks like that.

Good God that camera hump is flipping awful!! Looks tacky and stuck on...

I hate to say it, but design wise in this shiny form, the Galaxy S8 looks better!!
I used to agree, but since getting the 7+ I really don't notice it. Its there obviously, but other than the aesthetics when posted on a website, its really a non issue.

Tim cook on September iphone 8 event " today we are taking the iphone to the next level. making huge leap"

Tim cook "biggest thing to happen to iphone since iphone"

Phil schiller "What makes iPhone 8 so unique is how it feels in your hand. The materials… the remarkable precision. Never before have we built a product with this extraordinarily level of fit and finish.”

Phil schiller " its the fastest and most advanced iphone that we made".

So predictable guys. Do something else

This is a truly lovely impression of what the next iPhone may look like. The making of it for me is the beautiful drop portion on the front for the various cameras, the Black steel surround, and of course, the Touch ID under the screen. The only possible aspect that would greatly disappoint me is the continuing presence of lightning charging according to earlier speculation today. What a shame that would be, in my opinion.

honestly im not even excited anymore
its turning into an android spec race phone, with iOS installed.

say what you want about iphones circa 2008-2011 'lagging' in specs, features etc relative to their android counterparts... those phones had sex appeal to them.

this just looks and feels like a nerd's toy. 'edge to edge display'. big deal.

this is why ipad pros suck. 'keyboard cover'...stylus...big deal. it sucks.
sure, theyre technical marvels....but who actually wants one?

I'll need a new phone this fall. I'll get whatever iOS phone is $600.
You understand though, that edge-to-edge means a larger screen size in the similar physical device size. Unarguably the most important feature that a smartphone can receive is more screen size in the same or similar physical device size. This is due to the fact that the screen is everything. It is the smartphone. In conclusion, the reason this phone is worth upgrading to and the reason so many will, is due to the fact that the display size will increase greatly while only increasing the physical device size minimally.

I mean, if this is the final design, I don't HATE it. I'm relatively lukewarm to this design and I'll probably warmup to it a lot once I see the real thing.

I wonder why they didn't (or couldn't) just push the screen to the actual edge where it lips down instead of having that thin strip of bezel surrounding the screen. Keep the same glass as the 7, just push the display to the actual edge like the concept on the right (ignore the OS):

It's not a full curve, but a 2.5d edge-to-edge looks better than the actual deep curve on the S8 imo.

They should innovate on that camera mountain/"bump"
The camera bump is a result of physics. There are two ways to remove the bump:

1. Make the cameras worse
2. Make the device 8.3mm+ thick

That thickness is unacceptable, and the cameras being worse is also unacceptable. The camera protrusion is the acceptable compromise. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is 8.1mm thick and the camera still slightly protrudes. This is a trade off that Samsung decided to peruse and I believe it is the wrong direction; they should stick with the larger protrusion.

The reason is simply physics.

Apple elected to go the smart route by not placing display underneath curved glass. When you have display under curved glass, physics of light interaction with glass deteriorates viewing quality in multiple ways.

•Refraction of light through the bent glass means distortion of imagery.
•Curved glass means reflection of ambient (room or sunlight) reflecting in very oblique angles and resulting in the distinct highlight of the curve to the viewer.

If the phone is going to be slightly thicker – with I actually like – why is the protruded camera still a thing? Can't they fit it or it performs better that way?
The camera module is simply too thick. Moreover, a distinct difference between this iPhone and the iPhone 7, is this:

The iPhone 7 and previous iPhones have placed the camera module inside the device where it would lay directly against the glass on the top right corner of the bezel. The 2017 iPhone has display directly over the camera module. This means that this year's iPhone physically has the OLED display component and whatever other display components go directly underneath the display, overtop of the entire camera module, whereas previous iPhones only has the glass. This is one reason that despite the fact that the iPhone is thicker, the protrusion remains, and may be the same or thicker than previous versions.

Congratulations Apple, you've now officially copied Samsung (IF this is accurate) As a user of iPhone since Day 1, I can safely say without a doubt now that Apple died with Steve Jobs. someone in here mentioned how the phones up till 2011 lacked features etc but were sexy as hell and yes, that is 100% accurate! Steve was an innovator and brilliant mind. These knuckleheads running the show are extremely overrated and have not produced anything that has wow factor in any way, shape or form. All we have to look forward to are the changes in iOS, that's it. Don't lie to yourselves folks, this is the truth. My 7 plus will last me a while and for the first time, I may not upgrade. For me, that's an unthinkable thing...

Vertical camera lens is so ugly and just wrong.there is no doubt about it.
It arguably looks better because it follows the design better by length/width. The vertical camera is absolutely necessary though, due to internal space.

I wouldn't say absolutely necessary, but it would be unnecessarily difficult to make it horizontal, given how they are laying out the components with less flexibility, like the SOC, and L shaped battery configuration.

What's the point of these "leaks", which aren't leaks in any way, but just Chinese… toys… anyone can buy and put on YouTube for instant return of investment several times fold?

Yeah, we know it's going to have "semaphore" camera, be black, etc. nothing new here, and certainly won't be as ugly as that!

At this point, Apple should just hold a keynote now to release the dang phone. Why wait? Over the years, the leaks all line up to be consistently accurate.

Actually it's 100% necessary. It's in fact impossible to go horizontal with what they are placing inside the phone and the width of the phone. The face of the device now has a speaker hole, 2 cameras, 2 3D image sensors, ambient and proximity sensors, and an infrared light. The rear camera module can only physically go vertical.

That’s a better design overall, especially with the symmetrical front.
The iPhone is symmetrical. You will never see the cutout except in certain light when the phone display is turned off.

The top and bottom of the iPhone will be black display. They will be 90% turned off pixels at all times when the display is turned on. To the user it will look 100% symmetrical at all times, always.

except the print scanner on the back is right next to your camera and in an awkward position to touch. The S8 really only looks sexy from the front.
