Congratulations Apple, you've now officially copied Samsung (IF this is accurate) As a user of iPhone since Day 1, I can safely say without a doubt now that Apple died with Steve Jobs. someone in here mentioned how the phones up till 2011 lacked features etc but were sexy as hell and yes, that is 100% accurate! Steve was an innovator and brilliant mind. These knuckleheads running the show are extremely overrated and have not produced anything that has wow factor in any way, shape or form. All we have to look forward to are the changes in iOS, that's it. Don't lie to yourselves folks, this is the truth. My 7 plus will last me a while and for the first time, I may not upgrade. For me, that's an unthinkable thing...

How do you know what Steve had decided laid out before he died? He had plans for numerous years after the iPhone 4. Lots of people said the iPhone 4 that was lost in a bar wasn't Apple like. With the sharp edges and popping out glass sides with stainless middle. You can say it isn't what Steve would do but you really have no idea what he would do or what he had a say in well past his death.
Stop the Steve this Steve that crap.

So most of the rumours seem to indicate that the iPhone 8 will have a glass front and back and a steel band around the edge (of similar construction to the iPhone 4/4S but with rounded edges).

I can't tell from the video whether the back in this dummy model is in fact glass or aluminium in Jet Black.

If it is glass, I think this will be close to, if not exactly, the design of the release.

Reason being that wireless charging is easier through glass.
You can clearly see the gap with the side and the back meaning the back will be glass also. Watch the turning of the phone when it's laying on the front. You can see the edge around the band

Good God that camera hump is flipping awful!! Looks tacky and stuck on...

I hate to say it, but design wise in this shiny form, the Galaxy S8 looks better!!

I disagree.

The iPhone's design looks good and is usable.

No curved screens, no Touch ID on the back, has dual cameras, has 3D cameras.

Aren't Apple haters always complaining about form over function?

We've seen countless renderings, dummy models, and design leaks that give us a decent idea of what we can expect the "iPhone 8" to look like, but OnLeaks and Tiger Mobiles have teamed up on a new video that perhaps gives us the clearest look yet at the iPhone 8's design based on current rumors.

The video features an iPhone 8 dummy model with an edge-to-edge display, a top bar that will accommodate the front-facing camera and sensors, a vertical dual-lens rear camera, and a glossy black chassis made from glass with a matching and indistinguishable steel band around the edges.

This new dummy model is similar to previous dummy models that we've seen, and it is in line with rumors and design drawings that have suggested the iPhone 8 will feature a slim, almost bezel-free design with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the display of the device.

It measures in at 71mm wide, 144mm long, and 7.5mm thick, which matches up with previous size estimates we've seen leaked. For comparison's sake, the iPhone 7 measures in at 67.1mm wide, 138.3mm long, and 7.1mm thick. The new device, if the dummy models and other rumors are correct, will be similar in size to the iPhone 7, but will have a display that is similar in size to the iPhone 7 Plus display.

Dummy models are often constructed by case makers and other accessory manufacturers based on rumors and leaks coming out of the supply chain. Case makers use dummy models to create cases ahead of an iPhone's launch to be first on the market with accessories. In past years, these dummy models have been largely accurate, but there are, on occasion, design discrepancies.

When it comes to the iPhone 8, Apple was originally said to be working with up to 10 prototypes, including one with a rear Touch ID button, making it hard to pinpoint a design. Much of the recent leaked information has centered on a design similar to the device in the video, and it's looking more and more like that's the design we'll see in the finished device when it launches this fall.

Rumors, blueprints, and dummy devices can often be confirmed with myriad part leaks, but we're seeing relatively few part leaks this year, so there's still some uncertainty. So far, we've only seen alleged front and rear panels, featuring no visible Home button, an edge-to-edge display design, and a vertical dual-lens rear camera.

Beyond what's visible, we've heard a whole slew of rumors about the iPhone 8, with details ranging from wireless charging to impressive 3D sensing and facial recognition capabilities for the front-facing camera. For a complete picture of what to expect, make sure to check out our roundup.

Ok, we know what the iPhone Edition (or 8) is gonna look like but we haven't seen a single leak of iPhone 7S and 7S+ yet.
I don't expect them to be much different than the 7 and 7+. Just enough to force users to buy a different case, but still we are now 3 months from the launch and there is still nothing.
Isn't that a bit strange?

This is not the actual Apple design. Suffice it to say, the camera sticking out the back is the one thing they are guaranteed to get right.

Well I'll reserve judgment as I don't like it. Also I bet thumbs will be straining to reach the bottom of that screen. The camera bump looks massive being shiny.

3D cameras are nothing but pure gimmick. I hope it doesn't have them as it's pointless. Rather have better normal cameras.

Oh, and your confusing difference in opinion as Apple hatred, do you class all people with different taste to yours as haters?

You know something is terribly wrong at Apple when MacRumors members know industrial design better than Richard Howarth's pathetic Industrial Design group. Not sure why such an elite team of designers insist on having that ugly camera bump. Just don't have on there. Simple. And make the camera a single lens. Also pondering why they can't just put the FaceTime camera and earpiece behind the screen. It seems so easy.

You pretty much answered your own question...obviously the elite team of designers with numerous exhibits in the MoMA know something that the nerds on the MacRumors forums don’t.

REALLY hoping for a white version of this.

Also hoping that due to the supposed high price, that it won't be glass, but ceramic like the Apple Watch Edition. Otherwise, how could you position it as a premium device over the others, especially if the others have better water resistance, wireless charge, same CPU, and so on? Seems like an "unbreakable" shell with ceramic back and sapphire front would justify such a price increase. Of course then we will be looking at something a lot higher than $1000.

Who really knows I guess. Maybe Ming-Chi Kuo :)

None of these videos provide any new information. Just people posting another video of a mockup of the last person who made a mockup.

I really hope the camera bulge isn't as thick or doesn't exist. Why can't they make the damn phone 1 or 2 mm thicker to compensate for it? With the larger battery wouldn't that be a fair compromise?

Because certainly nobody here has ever said "make it slightly thicker so we get better battery life!!! OMGFML"

The thickness isn't to include a bigger battery from what rumors have stated. However they did stack the logic board, allowing for an L shaped battery as opposed to an l shaped battery like normal. So it will indeed have bigger battery, coincidentally.

Until battery tech improves drastically, chunky means a larger battery which is all good for me – I'd be happy if it went even thicker than it is.

They didn't put a thicker battery in it. They put an L shaped battery as opposed to the normal l shaped battery they have in it, since they stacked the logic board this year, it allowed for an extra area.

I didn't say, "a thicker battery", I said, "larger".

:)

Simply not true, see here:

You do realise that "image" is confirmed just to be a printout of a background put underneath one of the readily available screen protector "leak".

It will 100% have black background top/bottom to give the illusion of a seamless status bar and touch bar.

You dont mark other peoples words? What does that mean?

The share price and the iphone sales are increasing due to one factor. Increase in population. Or rather, increase in accesibility to a larger number of population. Ie india and china.

The reason they have a large number of consumers to begin with is because the iphone users become sticky customers. By sticky i mean they get sucked into the apple ecosystem. This is first and foremost due to the terrific marketing and advertising of apple, and almost nothing to do with the iphones themselves.

It has everything to do with the iPhones themselves. Marketing and advertising will attract new customers but not retain any; the reason apple have a large number of consumers to begin with is because they produce consistantly good, desirable, easy to use and high quality products. If something is easy to use, good quality and it works people will generally stick with it.

A limited number of people, myself included, appreciate the fact that the we are the customer and not the product, that is to say we are not subject to the same levels of data snooping and lack of privacy as the Andriod/Google eco-system.

Less strain than reaching for a fingerprint sensor next to a camera lens that you'll likely smudge.

The 3D cameras are for better AR. They also function as normal cameras.

You keep right on pondering why they can't put the FaceTime camera and earpiece behind the screen because it 'seems so easy'. You might as well tell us there's no reason why we haven't landed people on Mars yet, because it 'seems so easy'.

Does it not matter to you that you have no concept of the physics limitations in doing that? I mean is it okay with you that you know absolutely nothing about an insanely complex problem and yet you describe it as easy?

I'll just give you a simple physical reason why the camera behind the display isn't viable even if the display was transparent:

Assuming the display is transparent, the display will never be as transparent to photons as clear glass is. Therefore no matter what, if you did that, image quality would be significantly degraded. The same goes for sound waves passing through the display... it doesn't matter if they used the glass it would still be far inferior to a clear passage for the air to vibrate out.

AR is a gimmick, sorry but it is. And I never claimed where the S3 sensor is was better! It's in an awful position. But.. I think it may be a strain to reach all these screen corners and balance the phone in one hand. We will see, however everyone is different with different hands.
I'll take a look at the new iPhone though. See how it handles.

I disagree. Developers are already making compelling AR demos even without the 3D cameras.

I also disagree with your stance on the fingerprint sensor. Having it on the front is better. PERIOD.

That's the thing. Every phone more or less has made it a point to be in s big single button on the front at the bottom, it's exactly where we all expect the new Ines behind the screens to be!
Sticking it on the back in the middle is bad enough and unfamiliar, sticking it next to the camera is lazy and cheap and useless.
We'll have to see if AR takes off, it hasn't yet. VR is still dead too, people don't like these things I guess we don't see them as useful, like 3D with it's huge push from the manufactures, tons of TVs with it, now because no one cares or likes it they are making less and less and shifting to 4K or HDR etc.

So it's by no means a guaranteed success. And I still suspect people would prefer better photos and videos then AR. I slo don't believe many use iris scanners, because finger print sensors have been so dominant. But Samsung have put it in a few phones now so some must like it?

Hm, a lot of people keep saying this, but this time I have to agree, that camera bump IS ugly.
Additionally, to me this really does look like any other phone. It's lacking some Appleness.
