Now this could go one of 2 ways (probably more, but these are the ways I see it going):

  1. Apple is releasing a load of inane iPod related products.
  2. Apple has something large up its sleeve for the finale and we will all wet ourselves with excitement.

If it is the first option then I would warn Apple to be careful (yes even the humble man in the street can occassionaly forsee disaster that others miss ;)). The press will not run to their beck and call forever unless Apple consistently blows people's socks off.

If it is the second option I can't afford it so I am angry  ;) :)

No chance the 13 and 17-inch versions of the MacBook Pro make it into this announcement . . . I wish.

But it will probably be the new Video iPod, which will replace the previously marketed video-playing music player called, "iPod Video". Seems the most probable . . .

Viiv has been in the rumors for so long, I doubt it will pop up in such an informal event.

widescreen touchscreen video ipod.
video airport express (what i want most of all).
tablet mac.
macbook. (p.k.a. ibook)
mac mini media center.

or the journalists could regard a 16-way intel-based 4 proc quad core xserve as fun. which i would too...

my guess is the ipod boombox

THIS is exactly why i said that when charlie and the chocolate factory was remade it should have been charlie and the apple campus, apple is the only company left that has this magical mystique, this certain royal mystery, this jez nes se pwah

But who would play Michael Jackson? :p :D

isn't it rare to invite people to the Apple Campus? Maybe this is going to be some sort of grand Willy Wonka type thing! 10 iPods with a Golden Ticket inside! full tour of 1 Infinite Loop! OMG!! I'm Pumped!

Perhaps the iCal icon is just to throw us off scent?

The true-video iPod will be announced in October (my guess).

What the heck can it be? Is the media-mini finally?

At least we only have to wait 7 days...

"Sam Bhavnani, an analyst at market researcher Current Analysis, said he thinks Apple may introduce a 17-inch MacBook Pro as well as a redesigned iBook with a 13-inch widescreen display."

bring on the 17". i am ready.

???? how is that possible i heard that was one of the driving forces on the switch to Intel ???

We don't know whether or not Apple is going to use Viiv. For that matter, we really don't have any real idea what the true "driving forces" were for Apple to switch to Intel.

porque apple? porque?

It's "pourquoi". :p

Well, something "fun", huh? That immediately makes me think of either iPods (they could be due for a refresh) or something multimedia related. This lends itself to the possibility of some combination of Intel Mac mini/VIIV/Front Row 2.0/DVR/Home entertainment solution. Which of those it might be, on their own or in combination, remains to be seen.

Has it ever been officially stated by Apple though that they have no interest in VIIV? Why not?

An Intel Mac mini with VIIV, DVR capabilities, Front Row 2.0, etc. would be quite the product - I just wonder then what Apple's strategy would be with respect to the selling of video content on iTMS. It would cannibalize sales if users could simply use a DVR application to record them themselves - in better quality, nonetheless.

Regardless, only 1 week until we find out!

I'm thinking this is some of the stuff that Apple wanted to announce at Macworld in Jan but was unable to. Additionally I think it might be an iBook as Apple would want to reach volume production before the Back to School season.

Fun products?

Sounds like more than one thing. Possibilities that have been recently rumored:

iBook
Apple phone - unlikely
vPod (iPod-like device with screen occupying most of the front) - unlikely
Apple Media Center
Apple-branded iPod speakers
