As far as I can remember, the iPod socks were previously the only Apple-branded product in history that Apple introduced as being "fun."

So be warned.

Maybe it will be iPod nano socks then - If they come in black, Apple could market them as "Carbon Nano Tubes"! :D ;)

I'm excited and a little upset about this. The 28th is my Birthday, and I didn't get my invitation. Maybe I'll get my present a few days late care of Apple!:D

You might get a present from Apple alright, but it'll be on your own dime... :p ;)

But are new laptop models really that fun?

Yeah, this is my thinking as well. Even though the Intel iBooks are definitely due, this sounds like it will be related to something else - again, something iPod related, media center related - that sort of thing. But, depending how big this event is going to be, there is nothing saying Apple couldn't release new iBooks as a supplement to whatever else they have up their sleeves.

this is a list of things that i think will most likely be released
1) ipod shuffle
2) ibook with intel
3) video ipod
4) ipod accessories

i think that the ibook will be released because apple wants to get it out as soon as possible so they will have a sufficient amount in stock when kids are buying new computer for going back to school. and the shuffle seems like it will be released because it is the only model in the ipod line up that hasn't been given any real attention to in a while. but who knows... it better be good because if it's jus ipod accessories and no ibook, then a lot of people are going to be pissed.

Definitely NOT #1. They have the 1GB nano to repace the shuffle(s). The Shuffle is dead.

Definitely NOT #2. The iBooks will ship with the Core Solo. Those chips aren't expected to be available until late March/early April. Unless this is going to be just an announcement to take pre-orders with iBooks shipping a month later, like they did with the PowerBooks... I mean MacBook Pros.

#3 is a strong possibility.

#4 is also a strong possibility.

My bet is on #4. Seems the most likely.

I'm also thinking it's to announce that all their Pro apps are going Universal, but it doesn't make sense to use a Special Event just to make such an announcement so I doubt this is what will happen.

Should be interesting to see what "fun new" product it will be.

Let me the first to complain about Apple's new products.

Let me the first to complain about Apple's new products.
They scratch easy, .01% of them have one bad pixel or something, and .001% of them have power issues or are partly defective which is covered under warranty, but we consider these flaws and the warranty to be undue burdens. I am also not happy that when I received the product that I have yet to order , it was/is/will better than the specs that were originally released.

Please join the class action lawsuit against Apple for the creation of these as yet to be offered products, with yet to be identified flaws.

I am also filing a class action lawsuit against all other people who have filed seemingly frivolous class action lawsuits for not including us in their class action lawsuit. All people who have not been part of or invited to join a class action lawsuit constitut a class of people who can file a frivolous class action lawsuit. By not joining the class action suite, be aware that you are entitled to join the class action suite to be filed later against the people filing the class action against those who have yet to file class action law suites. The damages to all classes noted above will be determined during the protracted and verbose prefiling period, or after the filing, or during the proceedings that will follow.

That`s it!

I think that`s the closest bet so far.

Most likely they will be accompanied by the incredible iPooBox as has been rumored already to start the Apple iPod Acessory-line. The iPooBox will release incredible sounds in the rythm of your music.

It might even be a completely new technology of virtual smell output devices that goes well along with the socks.

:D

Seriously: That does not sound like a "big" product launch. I think they keep the good stuff until 30th as there is no real competition on the heels.

This seems unlike Apple.

I'm not expecting much - maybe a new color set for iPod socks.

I would say it's iPod related due to Apple hitting the one billion songs sold through iTunes at about that time.

I just got a Nano late last year, no reason for me to get too excited.

a iTablet would be amazing! or MacTablet Pro! haha! i would certainly buy one of these gesture based devices and can't wait to see what they'll be like if they ever materialise!

i video ipod would be excellent also, but i doubt i'd get as much use out of it!
It could be a video iPod with basic tablet functionality.

My guess - not going to be anything "WOW"

If they're inviting the press and journalists, it will have to be something "WOW" If I was a jornlaist and traveled to Apple HQ and all they brought out was a pair of speakers i'd be pretty pissed lol

It'll be interesting but I am NOT NOT letting myself get excited !!!!!!!

Yes, we're all excited. But don't get too excited. Otherwise you might get let down. Keep your expectations low, or at least resonable.

No company is 100% perfect - I consider Apple's percents fairly good.

I have no idea what you are trying to say; that paragraph made my head spin.

I disagree, and not for the reason you specified. The reason that the Intel PowerMacs are going to be the last Macs to go Intel is because not everything will be universal binary for quite some time yet. One of the big players here is Adobe. All apps will not be universal until CS3 comes out, and that will not be for quite a while yet.

So unless Adobe announces CS3 is out next week (which it won't) this will not be the content of the announcement.

Plus, universal binaries aren't exactly "fun". :p ;)

Is this a hoax? Because I'm starting to enjoy the fake invitation images almost as much as the annual elevator photos :)

(Proposed MacRumors April Fool's event: make your own fake elevator photo!)

And the term "fun" doesn't sound like any general-purpose Mac to me. (Or at least, not JUST that.)

One thing I do NOT expect: a tablet Mac. Apple just NOW posted job openings that were tablet-computing-related. If anything comes of that, I'm thinking MWSF07. (But touch technology in an iPod/other device, rather than a computer, is a separate issue.)

I think he meant Apple's Pro Apps are all universal binary.

"Fun"

Fun is definately aimed at the consumer market and not the professional. I think that can mark out any MacBook Pro 17" or PowerMacs. I wouldnt be suprised if the take preorders on a MacBook (iBook) and release various gadgets for the iPod. Just iPod accessories would likely cause riots among the Apple community.

Invitation

Here's the Invitation.
