I don't think it eats your RAM as much as Safari. It's supposedly lighter right? Also, I'm using the metal brush like theme from Google and I have cool extensions on my browser. This thing is indeed faster and also more fun to use. I made this my main browser and we'll see how it goes. I have the facebook, twitter, Google sidewiki, and evernote. It's there and it works. Try Chrome sounds, it has funny sounds when you browse with Google Chrome.

But shouldn't it be Myth Busters who are doing the testing?

I mean, wouldn't a third party results be more palpable to the viewing public had someone other than Google, designed all the tests themselves and filmed all the tests themselves and what of the control tests and all the stuff the Myth Busters do? Oh, except have a bone in this fight!

Are you kidding me? Why would you think a third party would be a better way to "test" it. They're showing the unbiased results to you in SLOW MOTION. You think they're tampering with it or something? No, they're not. They're just finding neat ways to show that it's a fast browser. Comparing it to other browsers would be pretty interesting to see but it'd be boring to watch.

The graph should be 0 to 100 not 0 to 70. Not trying to nit pick but this is called distortion of the facts and best left to politicians. :)
None of the browsers have 100% market share. What would be the point in including an empty 30% at the top of the graph?

Both seem to be much better than Firefox on my battery life. I'm going to wait until Chrome comes out of beta before relying on it as my main browser though. Of course that could be years knowing Google.

curmudgeonly response

Why cant apple do this?

Maybe Apple excels at making cool stuff and making cool stuff stuff work and relies on ad companies to deal with the whimsical f**kery waste of time "making of" videos. Can you see Apple approving the purchase order for a potato gun?
And frankly, isn't Safari loading near instantly good enough? I mean, my eye doesn't see the difference between 1,000th of a second and 2,300ths of a second, so why should I care? I DO care that all platforms and all browsers are converging more and more. Otherwise, please stop wasting my time with high school rube goldberg projects.
This crap just doesn't impress me any more.

The speed of Chrome is impressive. Would I use it as my main browser though? No, not yet. I like the very clean interface too.

In future versions, I hope that Google implement Quick Dial that Opera first added to their browser, and later found its way into Safari as "Top Sites". Firefox needs this too.

The ability to Theme the browser is a nice touch.

LOL - like the video too! Google must have had a lot of fun making that.

Chrome's got their own version too. Show's up when you click the new tab button, or you can set this to your home page through preferences.

Quickly becoming my favorite browser. I only use that horrendous Safari if I'm on my Touch, never on my Mac.

Chrome is SOOOOO much better than Safari. More intuitive and easy to use. I've been using chrome instead of Safari on my iMac since I got it.

I just had this vision of Mythbusters attaching rocket engines to 2 laptops, one of which is running Chrome and one Safari, and launching them.

Safari is better IMO for one reason. I'm a HEAVY Tabs user-having 10-20 tabs in one window is not rare for me. Safari (and pratically every other browser) out there gives a warning/notification when I close a window with multiple tabs. Quite often, I close a window of tabs thinking that there is only one tab in Chrome, and I lose all of my tabs. I can't check what version of Chrome I have (at school ATM), but I think I'm on the latest version.

Sorry mate but it won't be H.264 video. Just straight up HTML5/canvas so it will be hell of hard to block...

Yes, and even though this is off topic, I think THIS is one of the major reasons SJ is pushing HTML5 over Flash. With the iAds coming out, he does not want to support a platform (Flash) that can be easily blocked. That would compromise iAd's effectiveness and bottom-line. Whereas if the ads are in HTML5 and cannot easily be blocked.....you HAVE to see them!

So you compared Safari with a Beta...

Its interesting that Chrome and Opera are the clear winners here. Safari 64 bit is not far behind, Safari 32 bit is not so hot, but Firefox is the real dog in these tests.

If you are going to do that, you should at least also include the latest nightly from WebKit

On a Core 2 20" iMac WebKit nightly pulls gets a SunSpider result of 338.4ms

Its been doing that for a couple of months now, good for Chrome to catch up but it doesn't make it a clear winner by any stretch

There's more to browser speed than just rendering java script. Which is the only element of Chrome Google cares to talk about.

On another note: What is it with Google and these eternal Beta versions of all their software? This is the FIFTH beta version of Chrome!
When exactly have they done enough beta versions to actually call it Chrome 1.0 ?

...snip

Safari (32 Bit)..........467.4 ms +/- 0.6%
Safari (64 Bit)..........402.2 ms +/- 0.9%
Chrome...................332.2 ms +/- 2.9%
Firefox....................928.0 ms +/- 2.7%
Opera.....................379.8 ms +/- 0.8%

Dave

ooops didn't do the quote properly, first time on this site, sorry.

BTW ran SunSpider again, with another browser window open with around 15 tags and I was typing this and WebKit gave me 331.6ms. I use it as my only browser running updates daily so it gets really well tested.

What's the best adblocker addon for chrome?
Adblock plus keeps me using firefox. I would love to switch to chrome
