ROFL funniest thing I've heard all day. And I've heard many funny things today.

Slightly worse than the 320M, much worse than the 330M (in benchmarks).

For gaming in Windows far worse than both the 320M and 330M (mainly due to Intel's pathetic drivers)

Well vaio is Acer inside, only remodeled aesthetic.
Try to disassemble and look at the logic board, some is identical, and the specs is somewhat indentical. (some models)

If you want good windows laptop, use AlienWare
For desk top, DIY

figured you were talking about the base 13" when you said $1300

o ya, i forgot it's 1500$ for the i7

I just want a better display resolution.

HD 3000 cannot support more resolutions :/

Er...what? the HD 3000 can drive a 2560x1600 display without even breaking a sweat. Its not as bad as forum members and synthetic benchmarks are making it out to be.

I don't think people think its that bad at day to day tasks, but it definitely is sub par when gaming which is why most people knock on the HD 3000

i wonder if minecraft under heaviest setting can run this

will TB feature ext graphics card adaptor?

if yes i'll definitely buy it

Personally I can't understand people who are all the time complaining about their gpus. Remember that notebook were mainly designed for work. Not any other reason. only work. And especially apple is dedicated to this word for years now!

Even if I accepted your comment as true, which I don't, lots of people's work makes heavy use of a GPU, either for graphics or as a vector coprocessor.

But...
A)I don't agree that notebooks are designed for work, they are designed for use in many situations outside work, and marketed as such. Which brings us to...

B)Apple had a massive series of commercials focused on lampooning the "work only" mindset of a lot of PC manufacturers. It would have been hard to miss, considering it was all over the web, paper billboards, TV, etc. SO no, I don't consider Apple to be locked on to making machines for work and only work..

OK, I still don't get it. How many people insist on gaming *only* on a 13" ? Why? If gaming is your thing, why not get a 15" ? The 13" is basically a notebook computer.

people always want everything... it certainly wouldn't hurt if it had a discrete gpu.

imo if you want to game you shouldn't even buy a mac, but whatever people still bitch about the graphics...

Also, the gpu isn't used in as many "pro" applications as you would think, and certainly not by people on 13" macbooks.

ye buh intel gpy iz way to stoopid fur thiz gen :/
i wouldn't count on it changing anytime soon... if you don't want intel graphics you have a few options. Get an iMac, buy a higher end mbp, buy a pc, wait for ivy bridge and hope that the intel graphics then will be good enough for you.

i will get an imac
problem is my MB is too weak now

Maybe you should apply for a job at Apple and get us better GPUs.

yeah i wish lol

why intel why -_-

Apple

Y U NO use AMD?

(cpu)

So what exactly AMD offers that Intel does not? The leaked Llano slides show that the coolest CPU will be 35W, still way too hot for MBA. There is absolutely zero news on ULV or LV Llanos. Might be that they will never even exist. AMD's current lineup would be worse than what we got now.

^ well i mean on the MBP's
there is a reason that intel owns ~80% of the x86 chip market...

Since more people are going to benefit from better processors than a graphics card I think it's wise of apple to go with intel. Sure it may not be ideal for everyone, but if it doesn't work for you, nobody is forcing you to buy it.

Find an Acer with a non-LV/ULV Core i7, 8GB RAM, 1GB NVIDIA 330M graphics, Full HD 13.1" display, built-in Blu-ray writer and a 512GB SSD in a RAID0 quad-SSD layout, carbon fibre/aluminum body and yet still weighs the same as a 13" Air. Then we'll talk.

My signature collection Z is far better than my M11x. Way faster, way better screen, way lighter and is much more practical.

HD 3000 cannot support more resolutions :/

The HD3000 can drive an external display at up to 2560x1600. What monitor are you trying to drive?

i mean the middle end ones, they're almost the same as the ACER
and dude, is that really a laptop o_0 ?

what year is that M11X?

i mean w/o more load at the GPU

more pixels= more load

i'm just joking when i said that the HD 3000 can't drive larger displays

Sony VAIO Z. 3.0lbs, i7-620M, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB Quad-SSD, BD-RW, GT330M (1GB VRAM), 13.1" FHD 'VAIO Display Premium'.

Basically what you got on the (then) highest-end 17" MacBook Pro in a 13.1" body/weight.

Cost me a pretty penny but totally worth it imo.

what year is that M11X?

Last year's M11x-R2. i5-520UM, 4GB RAM, GT335M 1GB (w/ Optimus). Currently have a 256GB SSD crammed in there.

i mean w/o more load at the GPU

more pixels= more load

There's going to be more load on the GPU if you try to drive an external display and your main display, regardless of whether the screen is 2560x1600 or 640x480 and regardless of whether the graphics is an integrated GMA500 or a GTX580M.

i'm just joking when i said that the HD 3000 can't drive larger displays

Lol fair enough.

^ VAIO= Acer Inside
Actually no, the Vaio Z is still one of the only Vaio machines made in Japan(unless you CTO then its made Japan with some parts assembled in a factory near you, so for North America it would be in their San Diego factory). Same goes for the Vaio P, G, and now defunct Vaio T series.

Shame really that Apple wants you to move to a 15in machine to get a better gpu. I say this because the Vaio SA just dropped today, and it's the same thickness as the 13in MBP while being lighter at 3.5lbs(less w/ ssd), coming with a bag of hurt blu-ray player, 1600x900 res, and an ATI 6630 card all standard. Not bad when you considering the base price is $1300 with an i5 cpu. Most of the SA(from what I am told) will also be made in Japan, which unlike the more consumer oriented SB(SC at best buy stores) will be made in same factory as their other consumer models.

If Apple gave me all of that with a matte display, at a similar price I'd get the 13in MBP, but since they don't I am looking at the Vaio SA. I will say if I had the cash a Vaio SA with 1TB of ssd space does sound a bit tempting.

+1 for you for owning a PPC ibook, +2 for having OSX installed, -15 for having Intel macchines, and another -15 for wind'ohs machines. Valid point the gpu should be better, but so should the cpu also.

ok i get it.

but how can u have 4 ssd in a laptop??

must be thicker in some way?

that M11X is still really good. alienware GPU can be changed with new one. that's why i like it.

i don't complain about the weight issue lol

btw, do you have link to the vaio you have?

Model I have has since been discontinued but the model is VPC-Z12JHX/X.

This youtube video explains the Quad-SSD (skip to 1:40) quite well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEOd8hbYf0E

Basically what they did was remove the housing from the SSD and directly place the chips on a board.
Similar to what Apple did with the Air, 8 months later. The only difference is that Sony didn't make it sound like it was a groundbreaking achievement that would revolutionize the computing world.

Apple knows how to criticize others for 'copying its innovations' (see: iPad2 announcement) but doesn't know how to give credit where it's due. But I digress.

Have they removed that godawful glossy screen cover and replaced that horribly dim screen on the r3 yet?

Is the SA meant to be the replacement for the Z? If so... :(

That said it is much cheaper than what the Z was.

Wind'ohs? Seriously? How old are you?

Let me rephrase your statement.

+1 for you for owning a 6 year old (at the very least) ibook, +2 for having OSX installed, -15 for having a faster 'macchine' (sp.) that can do more, and another -15 for using another OS.
