That’s a good point to make, 3 thunderbolt ports plus HDMI and SD could be practical for desktop users too. We will see a little later I guess.More thunderbolt ports than the new Macbook Pro?
Well, we are discussing the Mac Mini in this thread so I HOPE it works in clamshell mode lolI don't necessarily need 4K monitors, but at least 2 ext displays minimum, and 4+ would be super nice!
If it doesn't support two or more in clamshell, IDK what Imma do...
My thinking was that the built in port could support up to 10gig Ethernet, with an extra Ethernet capability becoming available via the power supply as an build to order option. If we get an external power supply on the Mini will that mean it could support two ethernet ports? And why does the render show the USB-A ports as horizontal, they should be vertical like the USB-C ports so you can have more room between the ports.
So I just tried that on my MacBook Pro and it did work - for reading a disc anyway. My previous recollection was that I got some error message saying there wasn't enough power to support the external device, maybe I was trying to burn a DVD instead of reading it. Either way, >99% of my optical drive needs these days is reading, not writing, so it would appear I'm all set. Thanks for your suggestion!@ Mick Mack. Just use a usb A to C adapter?
That is what I currently do. I have a PC as well. so the PC, the office laptop and the existing M1 MM are all connected easily at the same time to my 34" widescreen. And the MX Keys and MX Master 3 mean only a single keyboard/mouse for them all. Nice setup.I can get rid of the iMac and have both the Mac Mini Pro and work laptop feed into a tasty big ultra wide monitor.
Based on what Apple did with the new iMac, I am glad they are not going to show any new monitor. The purple Lego brick hooked to my Macbook Pro 16 would look much worse than my beautiful Dell. The huge win twould be a new Apple external display.
It’s crazy we buy these beautiful laptops then hook them up to plastic garbage for from Samsung and Dell.
Of all the components inside a computer the power supply is among the more likely to fail. Making it external not only saves space and reduces thermal load inside the chassis, it makes replacing a failed PSU as simple as plugging a new one in.External power supply? Change for the worse...
USB-C can’t deliver enough power and a kettle lead limits the size of the product. It'd be a no-go if this has a proprietary power lead like the 2021 iMac. I ain't touching that type of stuff anymore. The EU should force Apple to use kettle leads.
Maybe they’ll call it a Mac Pro and then call the Mac Pro a Mac Pro Max, further diluting the “Pro” moniker into meaningless marketing babble. It would be funny if they called it a Mac Pro and said were done with big boxes.
