My guess would be $1299 for 16GB/512GB and $1699 for the 32GB/512GB based on Apple’s BTO cost for the 16GB to 32GB upgrade on MacBook Pro and current Intel mini. I reckoned the cost of a possible Mac mini Pro to +$200 for the 16GB DRAM (from 8GB) and +$200 for the M1X over the base $899 8GB/512GB M1 Mac mini Apple currently sells to get to the $1299.
Isn't the upgrade from 16 GB to 32 GB $200? That's what I had thought, but I could be wrong. I can't check right now due to the store being down.

I do hope there will be an option for 2 ethernet ports,

64GB RAM, 4xTB & 2xUSB3 would be welcome too!

Those magnetic power leads on desktops are uncalled for. Great that they are likely to return on the MacBooks but I don’t want one on my desktop.

Hopefully the Mac Mini can support 3 x 4K displays. Really want to transition away from the iMac, but the Mac Pro is crazy expensive.

Also hoping to see an Apple branded monitor that is £999 or under. Stand included.

Just need MS to licence ARM Windows and Apple bring back Bootcamp in Apple Silicon.

No, the upgrade cost for 32GB from 16GB is $400. It was one of the major dings to the MacBook Pro and the Mac mini. Of course I can’t get a screenshot for you with the site down, but trust me, it was $400. The refurbished cost is a $340 premium.

There will be an option for 10Gbps Ethernet, but there is no room for two Ethernet ports and frankly, two is a tiny edge case use for the target buyer. Besides you get an Ethernet port on whatever dock you purchase or even just a dongle.

Agree with the $1299 and that RAM BTO costs will be the same as ever - the only wrinkle may be that the RAM options could be tied to the choice of 16 vs. 32 GPU cores ("M1 Pro" vs "M1 Max"?) so, maybe, if you want 32GB you'll have to get the 32 GPU core option and/or the 32 GPU option will only come with 32GB RAM (...which makes sense since, if you were maxing out the GPU on Intel you'd be looking at 8 or 16GB of dedicated VRAM, which now has to come out of unified RAM).

For me the Mac miniit only makes sense when Apple releases a decent prosumer/semi-pro display. It should be the same size an resolution as the XDR display but the rest can be on iMac-like.

I think we're going to have to wait a bit longer for a M1X-based Mac mini. Apple will probably want to give as much attention as possible to the new MacBook Pros and the chip supply is probably tight anyway.

I'd say next spring at the earliest for a new Mac mini, but I'd like to be proven wrong because I'm still waiting to replace my existing Core i7 mini that I purchased in 2013 (still usable, but one of the DRAM slots have gone bad -- not the DIMM, the actual slot on the motherboard).

OK then I revise my estimate for 32 GB / 512 GB to $1499, or at worst $1699.

That's what I was wondering about myself, but at least one of the more reliable leakers is saying today.

I wonderful if Apple will be more flexible on the mini than the MacBook Pro as the MBP is going to be a higher volume seller with models in stock at Apple stores and those pre-builds dominate the majority of MBP sales. The mini is a lot lower volume and people seem more willing to wait on their BTO order. I’m actually a bit skeptical of us seeing the Mac mini Pro today really, with Apple’s penchant for holding back things if they cannot provide sufficient quantity or some picks a bad tarot card at the marketing meeting.

No chance in hell it will be $1999. Not even close.

Probably more like $1299. Or at worst $1499.
Sorry, but I think that a 32GB M1X Mac mini will be about $2000. You'll probably have to add $500 just for the memory upgrade. On top of that they'll add a good premium for the M1X chip and they'll probably only sell it with a fairly hefty SSD.

That said, I really don't expect Apple to introduce a new Mac mini today.

I hope the Mac mini Pro is released today, but it’s just like Apple to pull one thing back away at the last minute to keep the leakers reputations on the negative side and let us know who is really in control at the end of the day.

I wonder if Apple will take a trade-in of my M1 Mini? I want ports!
Yeah I hate these crippled machines. M1 is way more speed than I need, and I'm a computer geek. But the fact it is so short on ports really irritates me. Yes, you can you buy hubs and such, but there are often problems, and if you're going to spend $100 or so on extra ports from a third party, it makes so that spending $200 or so more at Apple for a machine with more ports doesn't seem so bad. Damn upsell!

External power supply? Change for the worse...
If it's an external power supply, then it brings two benefits off the top of my head:

1) Much better cooling of the base unit
2) Easier to replace in the event of a failure of that specific part (and power supplies tend to be the most common point of failure as there is no mechanical hard drive)

The only downside I can think of would be cable management.

No, the historical pricing for the upgrade from 16GB to 32GB is $400 whether mini or MBP. The minimum starting config will be 16GB/512 to allow the bump over the M1 mini. The M1 mini isn’t going anywhere and Apple cannot charge too much of a premium for the M1X. Starting price at $1299 16/512/16GPU cores is a reasonable guess considering the lack of portability and a display.

Why would Apple do this and kill XDR sales?

More likely it'll be a 29.5" display rounded up to 30" and have a resolution of 5.5K...the same display they'll use in the larger 30" iMac to be announced in the spring of 2022.

You know what?? I was considering this new mac mini for some time. However, I finally realized that a MacBook Air is much better suit for me, and more versatile.

Honestly, I don’t plan to use it a lot on the go, because my iPad Pro is my main portable device, however, if some day I needed to use the mac in the street or the workplace, a Mac mini would limit me a lot.

Only if: 1) it’s VERY lightweight, 2) not very expensive, and 3) Apple allows me to buy a second power supply brick to have it on another place (being able to move the mini easily between my two workplaces) I’d consider getting one. Otherwise the MacBook Air is my tool of choice.

They're quite different use cases apart from just portability. The Air can't support sustained CPU loads as it quickly throttles due to no fan.

The 16/512/16 config is what I'd be looking for. Based on Intel pricing, that would be CAD$1554 edu in Canada, or roughly US$1256.

So, your US$1699 retail prediction for the 32/512/16 config makes sense. I don't see it going any higher than that.

BTW, if this turns out to be true, and because I only need M1 speed, this would basically mean I'm paying CAD$250 (US$202) more just to get a bunch more ports (and a new form factor).

Besides the Mac mini, I would NOT be surprised that Apple announces a "refresh" of the 24" iMac with M1X, but only limited to 16 GPU cores and 32 GB of RAM.
