It would be trivial to have two more USB ports soldered on the bottem of the mini with a door the flips open to reveal two more USB ports with tunnels out the back. Place the cords, and close the door locking the cords into place.

I wish SBC offered there DSL service where I lived. We just have Comcast cable internet and there service is fast when it works and sometimes it just freezes there for a minute or so. Before I moved I had DSL and never had a problem in 3 years. As soon as SBC offers there DSL service where I live now (getting 3Mbps), I am cancelling my cable.

Comcast's DNS servers are ***. Add other more reliable 3rd party servers and the service becomes nearly flawless.

It's not only that there's no place in the back, but there's no room left inside either. This solution would waste even more space anyway, on top of not being user-friendly!

Yes, since Comcast centralized to a few large scale national DNS servers name resolution is horribly slow. I was able to dig up the IPs to the old regional DNS servers and it has been working much better with those - I hope they don't decommission them any time soon, although I could just find some other 3rd party services as you stated.

Back on topic, I really hope we see updates next Tuesday as it is has been a while since we've had any significant updates/revisions. The last update that impressed me was the the Rev. B iMacs. Apple has been doing well with their consumer desktop lines lately, I think. Of course their notebooks are behind the times - I'm not expecting anything overly impressive with the iBook updates, but I would be happy to be proved wrong in this case. I'm very curious to see what updates the Mini's will be getting.

WTH? Stealth mini launch from the master showman, no way

"Next week if you want a PPC Mini or iBook, you'll have to buy it at overstock.com, but you won't want to. The new Mini is Intel (2+ GHz) on a board designed and sourced for Apple by Intel. "

Rootman, you must be smoking. You think that SJ, who lives for drama and spectacular product intros is just going to let the first product in a major company transition come out as a 'quiet' Tuesday update. LOL

No, I'm sorry, come this time next week the only way to run windows on a mini will still be through virtual PC.

Rootman that's probably the boldest post I've read in two years on this board. And you do sound certain. I hope I am congratulating you on scooping everyone else in the world on Tuesday.

If he was putting Yonah in Powerbooks, there would be a spectacular presentation. Centrinos in $999 iBook? Do you remember how Steve held the Mini at its debut? Like it was infected? This is not his kind of big deal.

I'm really not too sure we're going to see a widescreen iBook, possibly a slight modification to the current design along with other hardware improvements and thats all.

Me neither. A widescreen would be awesome, but it's asking for too much of Apple.

That's more like it. Now let's come up with some good puns for Vista being delayed; there were plenty of good ones for Longhorn (such as long-overdue, etc). I guess the most obvious is "hasta la vista," as in "see you later."

okay, here's one.

Vista means "a distant view or prospect." Therefore, Microsoft's Windows Vista is a distant prospect (at best).

i just bought a 12" iBook on the 10th. should i return it this weekend, and wait for the new one? i'll take about a $100 hit on restocking fees.

I'd wait to see what the upgrade is (if any, even if there's strong pointers for it) before deciding if it's worth 100$.

Also, can you wait until the updates for returning it?

i have till sunday to return it

I would take back the 12" iBook personally, but only because I need a superdrive. If you don't need the superdrive, I'm not so sure... Probably not the one to ask either way, so pass the question onto other MacRumor Pro's. I just wanted to post that Rootman was quite "sure" in his comment and although I would love to bow down and worship his prediction for the future in hopes of it coming true, I agree with lickily to a extent that I couldn't see Stevie changing the line without thousands of people watching or some kind of crowd (via MWSF or WWDC or Paris Expo or wherever he speaks). I mean sure its very optimistic given the "transition begins 2006" idea. Although I'd love to believe you, and if you're right come this (suggested) tuesday, I will hold you in higher rumor/speculation regards then anything else. But although I want to believe, I can't truly believe it... You're like the oracle and I'm Neo in the first Matrix (up until the end and he starts to believe, lets hope it happens so I can also truly start to believe!)

"Addendum

Additional sources have confirmed that the Mac mini will be updated early next week alongside the iBook. The new high-end Mac mini configuration, for $699, is said to feature AirPort Extreme, BlueTooth, and SuperDrive standard. The mid-range model is expected to come standard with AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth, but it's unclear if the low-end model will too."

Then again if you needed a superdrive you wouldn't have bought a 12" ibook so I don't know what I'm saying. Although if the update is suppose to give a SD to the $999 iBook then the $100 restocking fee would be nothing for me, I'd pay a $100 in a heartbeat to have a SD in a 12" iBook. Why they don't offer it for BTO right now I have no idea... I guess to keep the iBook 12" and the powerbook 12" seperate in another area, given the 12" Powerbook a bit of a advantage even with a half-grand increased price tag... eh?

Finally, i have been waiting for this all summer...only a few more days to go now

Sounds interesting.....but can they add all that AND bump the RAM, GPU and processor?

will the RAM upgrade in the iBook be over 2 dimm or 1 dimm? a 2 dimm 512 isnt that good, then you waste a 256 if you ever want to upgrade

All I ask for on the mac mini is a better video card. I can always upgrade the ram myself. A faster HD out of the box would be nice as well. When this happens, I'll buy one immediately.

Perfect, as long as they upgrade the GPU.

Where's an iBook mini?

Hopefully there will be addt'l part numbers announced.

I am still hoping for a 'mini-version' iBook under $999.00.

An Apple product that would quash any thoughts of buying a portable DVD player, a PVP/PMP, or an Archos-like product.
