Sorry, should have specified all iBooks - apologies for any confusion.

I totally agree that the books should have more wireless capabilities. But isn't AE included in all iBooks now? Or were you referring to both AE and BT? (I thought the basic CD-ROM version of the iBook was history. Is it still offered in the edu store or something?)

Yeh its still offered, for $899, it doesn't have AE built-in.

Yeah its still offered in the education store for $899 if i remember correctly though its not elligible for the Student Union Deal. Actually guys I'm not surprised that PowerMacs dont have AE standard. I dont see too many uses for it and it helps keep down the already high prices. How many lug that giant hunk of metal to Starbucks? Bluetooth would be a nice feature tho- nobody likes wires.

Yes, that is what I meant, again, my apologies. (No ambiguity allowed in this thread evidently! ;))

Yah, I just think it's high time that all Macs have BT and AE built in - there's really no reason not to. Of course, I realize it forces some people to pay extra for something they may not use, but still, I think it would be a good idea when all is said and done.

My 14" iBook G4

I don't know why people are hating the 14.1", 1024x768 screen. I vastly prefer it to a 12.1" screen, and I've had both. Why get the bigger screen without any improvement in resolution and workspace? It's the same reason you buy a TV set with a big screen even if a smaller screen has the same number of lines--you get a bigger picture and it's easier on the eyes.

If they totally eliminate this type of screen I'd accept it as a casualty of progress, but not without some consternation.

If they update includes a 13" iBook, does anyone think it'll run at 1024x768? I wanted to get the 14" cuz I like bigger screens, but the 12" looks cleaner and better to me. And a 13" would seem perfect to me.

That depends. What do you mean? ;)

I couldn't agree more here. The cheaper ones need it for portability (books and mini) and the expensive ones need it to justify the price. Also, people who say they would never use it might not realize how handy the wireless capabilities might be. Finally, Apple would sell a lot more AirPort Expresses.

I agree I like the idea of a bigger screan but I think the current 14" looks clunky and reminds me of a PC laptop. I hope that whatever form the new ibook takes its just as clean as the 12".

I will bet my house that the next revision iBooks have BT standard. They ALREADY have Airport Express. When the iMacs (which are not portable machines, so it is not as important) recieve in ONE update BOTH standard AE and Bluetooth (3 months ago, eons in the computer world) you can bet the farm and the cows that they will add standard Bluetooth in THIS iBook update since AE has already been taken care of. Besides it makes it easier for Apple to sell their wireless mice and keyboards. Now for the PowerMacs, standard AE is not that important in a desktop since normally power users have machines like that plugged into wired ethernet anyways. But standard Bluetooth is important on a Powermac for things like the wireless mouse and keyboard and these "power users" tend to have high end Bluetooth cell phones. I expect standard Bluetooth to be incorporated in every future update from now on, even the eMacs. Why?

Simple. The Bluetooth mouse and keyboard is now available in almost every store that carries Macs. Before it was a hard to find niche item that you could bassiclly only get off the Apple website and a handful of specialty Apple only stores. Now you can find them all stocked up at places like Best Buy, London Drugs (a Canadian store). These BT products were not widespread as before when basically only the Powerbook had standard BT. You think there going to sell these products in mainstream stores when only some models support Bluetooth? If Bluetooth Apple products are being sold now in mainstream stores, it means that EVERY Apple computer also sold in these mainstream stores will be equiped with standard Bluetooth just like USB and FW were incorporated as standard by Apple. Mark my words next iBook, eMac, PowerMac and Mac Mini update will have stadard Bluetooth (exception of edu eMac and iBook). The low end Mini this time around may not have standard Bluetooth but can almost guarantee next Mini update will see BT only no AE on low end, although it is possible it may be the case this time. 3 Mini models. BT only on low end. BT and AE on two higher priced models.

Yah until someone gives you a project on CD and you're not at home... and then thats me, beside you, laughing. Think Different doesn't mean 'Think half-featured'. And yes, you do have the choice to use Windoze.

Yah well that has never happened to me in the last 3 years just as I haven't gotten a floppy disk in the last three years. It’s called thumb drives and anytime someone needs to give me something they either e-mail it to me or we swap files via a thumb drive. The only times I've NEEDED an optical drive are the times I've had it with me.
Optical disks are a dieing breed for anything other then insanely large jobs. Optical disks will die off in the next few years for day to day transfers. It’s a waste.

Well put - it's really a win-win-win situation for Apple. Let's hope that along with their move to make 512 MB standard in all machines (save the eMac), Apple realizes this inclusion of wireless options would be a smart move as well.

Precisely. Nobody likes wires - that's why I've got a router and airport rather than stringing wire. Or people like my parents - two PC desktops, an iMac and two laptops spread around the house. Praise god for 802.11b/g.

Most of the 13" speculation seems to center around a widescreen. If it were a widescreen it wouldn't have that resolution. Honestly, I'd hope for the 13" to be something like 1152x800 (I'm just guessing at the exact resolution). I'd really like to see a little better than the current 1024x768. Not sure it will happen though.

I know It's A Rumor. But one would think that when your buying a $2000+ Machine (PowerMac) That it would already have the essential Wireless Upgrades.

Wireless isn't essential on a desktop machine. Wired is much faster.

If you're using it at home and don't have wired, I'm guessing chances are you'll have your broadband connection right next to your desktop so it really doesn't matter.

Chances are they still had quite a few left in stock. They probably won't take em away til the update.
There's always overstock.com, they did really well in helping apple get rid of overstock/outdated ipods, so ...

i still want to see an ultraportable like my fujitsu p7010.
i am and always have been a mac user and lover, but nothing beats the sony T and the fujitsu p7010 in terms of portability.

and the screen is a triilion times better than the one on my 12" powerbook.

apple needs to SERIOUSLY get better screens, they have a beautiful os and need to show it off with good displays.

if my p7010 was metal, and had osx on it it would be absolute perfection.

i want apple to use nice xbrite or crystal view screens, and dont go bitching about glare because i use one and it isnt an issue, infact i get headaches when on my powerbook for more than half an hour, but i can go on the p7010 for hours on end with no problem and the screen on it is only 10.6inches.

this b-brite screen stuff that 99% of other notebooks have now REALLY is good, and i dont know why apple isnt using it.
meh
