The reason I didn't go for the iMac is because I couldn't update the 1200-1300 dollar one with a superdrive and I already had the monitor/mouse/keyboard so I didn't see the point in getting a 1500+ iMac just for the superdrive.

You do realize its around $100 typically to go up to a superdrive, especially slim ones. So $200 gets you half there, plus 200MHz. Personally, I don't know why someone wouldn't spend that extra $200 and get that much more.

Yeah, on second thought plecky, why dont you sell the monitor and all the other crap as a package with the mini? Then just upgrade to the iMac, or the new iBook.

Back to the Mac Mini and iBook.

For a Mac Mini, I would like to see 512MB RAM standard, a slight processor speed bump, and 64MB of video RAM. Other things would be nice, but that is what I really want.

As for adding ports and such to the Mini, I don't think it will happen, but if it did, to free up some space, Apple could ditch the VGA/DVI port and replace it with a vertical mini DVI port. Then, in the package, they could include a mini DVI to DVI and mini DVI to VGA adapter. That would free up some space. Then they could put maybe another USB port. I think there is enough room on the current model to put an audio in/mic in port. You move the audio out port down a bit, and put the audio in port above it. The more ports the better, IMO, but I can just buy a hub for around 40 bucks if I have to. My main wants for the Mini are what I stated above..

As for the iBook, pretty much the same as the Mac Mini. Maybe a 13" screen though. 12" is too small, but 14" is too big for portability, IMO.

Perhaps, for double the price of the shuffle.

And there I go, getting off topic, too. Sorry.
About the mini updates, what can we expect for a CPU upgrade? All the way to 1.67 GHz?

If they scrap the 14's im gonna lose my mind... its pleanty easy to transport 14 inchers a 14inch wide would be sweeet..

Ok, I got a guess

I dunno about the mac mini, but ibook I think i know what to do with them:

12", 1.33 GHZ $999
512 RAM
SMS Hard Drive
Dual Finger scroll
40 or 60 GB hard drive
Combo Drive
ATI 9200
Airport Standard

14" (widescreen) 1.5 Ghz $1299
512 RAM
SMS Hard Drive
Dual Finger Scroll
60 GB Hard Drive (possibly 80)
Superdrive
ATI 9200 (possibly greater video memory)
Airport Standard (bluetooth possible)

For a Mac Mini, I would like to see dual core hyperdrive chips manufactured by Carpathian wood elves. 512 Megs would of course be standard, as well as the Geforce 5200FX. It would have the ability to transport the user over great distances, as well as forward and backwards in time. You can't forget the added benefit of Safari, Mail, and iLife...and the ability to run Doom 3!

All for $699...lets keep our fingers crossed!

Ideally, I would like to see this:

I like it, though the 13" should come with 512MB RAM standard as well.

I agree, but thinking about the latest eMac revision, I think they are going to stagger the default memory like the eMacs currently are.

yo, check this.......

REAL MAC MINI SPECS!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional sources have confirmed that the Mac mini will be updated early next week alongside the iBook. The new high-end Mac mini configuration, for $699, is said to feature AirPort Extreme, BlueTooth, and SuperDrive standard. The mid-range model is expected to come standard with AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth, but it's unclear if the low-end model will too.

Yep - already caught that and submitted it. Things are looking more promising for next week!

I'm wondering something though. I ordered my iBook with an extra 512MB RAM and upped to 60GB HDD, if I get upgraded to the new model, will I still get the upgrades I added? I'm hoping that the newer model comes standard with 60GB HDD though.

apple store and ibooks

a new apple store opened in my town today. they had tons of ibooks on display and everything. so do u thing that tuesday they would -

1. replace all of them
2. sell both (12 and 14 lower prices)

it just seems like they just opened with all these ibooks and tuesday there supposed to be updated is kinda wierd.... I hope they update though

Chances are they still had quite a few left in stock. They probably won't take em away til the update.

I'm not sure that they'll rush out and replace every one of them. I guess it depends. If the new iBooks are the same form factor (ie no widescreen), I think they may just put out one or two of the new ones. If they are a new form factor, then they'd certainly have to get some of those out right away. But again, not sure if they'd scrap them all immediately.

They will sell the current model at a discount. I don't know if they sell the floor models though.

I know 14" iBooks are less preferred over 12", but would a 13" be better than the 12"? In terms of screen resolution, loss or gain of pixels, etc.

Since the 13.3" is 1280x800 vs the current 12" @ 1024x768...yes.

I like 12" and I like the current form factor just fine. I don't really know if I would want to buy the first revision of a new form factor. Although I still would end up buying it after all this waiting, it won't make sense to change it without the switch to Intel anyways. It means more R&D costs and since Apple like any business is driven by green, I see this a form factor change right now as highly unlikely. All I want (standard) is the usual processor bump, 512MB of RAM, 64MB core-image video card, at least 40GB hard drive and Bluetooth 2.0. You give me that and I'm a happy man (or kid depending on how old you have to be to be a man). Anyone who thinks this is too generous is out of their mind. This is 9 months advancement here, if Apple can't update it just marginally like this there is a serious problem.

P.S. The scrolling trackpad would be nice as well as an update to higher quality materials for the trackpad mouse button and the keyboard.

This new mini could just be my next mac. But I have to wonder, what kind of improvements could I expect over my 1 GHz 17" iMac? (This intel thing just sort of spoiled my plans for a Powermac as my next Apple purchase.)

I'm not sure if someone had answered this, but noone thinks the shrinking shipping times is a bad sign, do they? From 5-7 to 3-5
