 I bought a 1 gig stick of ram, Kingston, for my 1.5 powerbook.

any ideas as to whether it would werk?

Yes, should work fine. For the current generation it would be no problem at all. And if the the iBook gets updated, I'm pretty certain they won't leapfrog the PB.

That statemant is an example of pure ignorance and arrogance. Just because YOU don't, who says others don't?

Woah!! Relax. I think you took my post COMPLETELY the wrong way. I wasn't saying bluetooth wasn't useful at all. Of the big 4 (RAM, HD, Speed Bump and Bluetooth) I personally think bluetooth is the least important. Also it's the cheapest of BTO options so adding if needed isn't going to break the bank.

You think Bluetooth will be included with the next update, I'm not so sure. If it is, bonus but if it's not, then those who want it can pay for it.

Bluetooth does get used but it's certainly not a must-have addition. If that wasn't clear then sorry, but Jesus, lose the attitude.

I wouldnt exactly say that BT is a must have in the next update, but I agree that it would be nice. I just hope that apple updates the things that we can't upgrade ourselves like VRAM etc. Anything else we can just sport some more money and get it ourselves.
That is why I am waiting for the next upgrade of the iBook, so that I dont miss out on the things that I wont be able to get later on. If there is an upgrade of standard RAM and HD, I just look at it as a few dollars lost in a large purchase.
So in all, BT would be nice I agree, but I wouldnt be upset whatsoever if it wasn't included in the next refresh.

Believe me, when the iMac gets standard Bluetooth, the iBooks will too. And Bluetooth happens to be in the same catagory as the VRAM, you can't add/change it later like you can with RAM or the hard drive. That is why in my opinion getting standard Bluetooth and updated VRAM goes before the RAM and hard drive. I mean look at the huge update the iMac got TWO WHOLE months ago, along with a price drop. They even added Airport to it. The iBook already has Airport. They won't be changing the form factor since that won't happen till the Intel switch so in order to make it a nice update they will have to do ALL these things. So I strongly believe assuming the price stays the same that we will get the regular minor proccessor speed bump, 512MB base RAM, a 40GB 4200 RPM base hard disc, 64MB of VRAM and standard Bluetooth 2.0.

wow something really weird just happened to me. a guy called and knew my name and that i was looking at iBooks online and i guess was claiming to be from Apple but what he said didn't really make sense. he was pressuring me to make my purchase with him over the phone, but i wouldn't, nor would i give him my email address. i don't know, maybe that's somewhat paranoid but it seemed very odd that he just called me really randomly. i told him i wanted to wait and see about an upgrade and he kept claiming that they upgraded everything 6 weeks ago (when prompted as to what he was talking about he just kept saying "memory and hard drive and everything") and that he didn't nkow anything about another upgrade. eep.

well he left me an 800 number and after a brief search i'm pretty sure it's an official number but i'm still really confused by what he said. did the iBook have any sort of upgrade 6 weeks ago???

No, the only update was adding Tiger to the iBooks instead of Panther. But the call you got was normal, they do that if you were about to purchase something on their webstore but didn't. In fact if you really want Apple to call you, go and spec out a fully loaded Dual 2.7Ghz PowerMac MAXED OUT with ALL the options, dual 30" Cinema displays, Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, OSX Tiger Server w/unlimited clients, Final Cut HD, Applecare, .Mac Family Pack, Quicktime Pro 7 with MPEG2, iSight, Office 2004 Professional Edition and add that to your cart and leave it there :D

I did that once just to see the price, and it was well over $13,000. Never got a call about it though.

They probably know that's not for real. People buying that much probably do so at the store, or through some partnership or something.

Ya, but did you leave it in your cart?

I bought a new iBook 1.2 12" Wednesday, and it's great. Don't know why I was waiting so long. So what if it only has a 30 GB hard drive, and 32 mb of Video ram. It's still the best laptop that i've ever owned. Everyone I show is amazed and they want to buy one too... I did upgrade it to 768 mb of memory though...(so it seems extra fast when I show it off ;))

Do the ibook and the powerbook share the same 12 inch screen?

I looked today and the 12inch PB seemed brighter.

Maybe the screen was set higher?

Were you at a store or something? Because if you were... some kid could have been playing around with the settings :p

No no I made sure that the brightness was the same!

The ibook looked more washed out. But that could have been for a number of reasons. For example the ibook was closer to the window. Plus the ibook was on a lower table than the powerbook.

Whatever both are cool.

I asked a guy at the Apple store about this too and he told me that they do share the same screen. But I've noticed the same thing too. The 12" PB screen seems less washed out than the 12" iBook's screen. And the 15" PB screen seems a lot brighter than either of them.

Maybe the silver surround of the PB brigs out the colours more?

the ibook screen is nice. Its just harder to find a sweet spot.

And I hope you're right! I wouldn't knock back a freebie Bluetooth. :D

Out of curiosity, what do you use Bluetooth for mostly? For me, I know I would only use it for wireless keyboard and mouse on a desktop. And for a laptop, the keyboard would be fairly pointless and I wouldn't trust myself with a portable computer and a cordless mouse. Some things need to be connected or I'd lose them.

Well, I don't like cables, so sound and printer and internet over airport express, bluetooth mouse, data sync between laptop and bluetooth phone, maybe use my bluetooth headset on mac for chattin on msn?!

........i'm starting to think we won't see any new iBook until September/October now, that's a year without an update, just like the eMac.

Noooooo!!! Don't say that! End of the month. End of the month. It must be!

Plus if Apple didn't plan to update till September then they would have updated the iBook page on their website with Tiger info. Plus the VRAM issue and Tiger is also valid. So, end of the month. Be positive!

Damn, I hope not. I'm going to be buying one within the next few weeks and I was hoping that there would be a new model out. Even if the processor speed was the same as now, I was hoping for better graphics, more memory and a bigger HD.

Still, maybe if the Mac Mini is updated this week (Today or Friday) then the iBook will be updated next week.

Why Friday in particular? I agree that if they were going to wait until september, they would have updated the VRAM (if nothing else) with the eMac/iMac revision.

Well it's Tuesday again, and when they release any update the store usually goes down about 1.30 pm UK time.
