What are the chances new iBooks will be released tomorrow? It seems doubtful at this time on heels on the iTunes mobile phone announcement. I guess I'm prepared to be disappointed.

There could be a bump tomorrow
With the length of this thread though they'll be one hell of a waiting time!!!
- just think of all the people that don't read this forum as well.

I can see it on the applestore site "ibooks: Sold out - until intel"

Here's to tomorrow.

We'll see tomorrow... or today at my timezone here (1:20 a.m.)... should i stay awake? or should i sleep...? ;)
I'm crossing my fingers, for all of us waiting!

Sleep, dude. If they don't update the iBooks, and you stay awake, you will be kicking yourself and crying...LOL.

The good news will still be there when you wake up in the morning. I REALLY HOPE IT IS!!!

:) :D

Been following this thread since April, and finally making a first entry...seriously, it's about time they really take into concern of students who are potential consumers. Last week was the student promotion with ipods, this week we might get our ibooks?

Let's hope for it...

guys, i'd like to take a moment and ask you all to go to the Buying Tips, Advice and Discussion page of this forum, click on the "views" button, and look at the very first thread that comes up. we did it togetha folks.

it's been great knowing you all, uh, reps to Duff-man for enlightening me with his offbeat humor, thanks Negrodamus for successfully predicting this event, thank you college that i will be attending in 2 months and for the educational discounts you give me, and thank you macrumors for not letting me spend my money on this new update.

Cheers!

I really hope so, then we might get iBooks with them. I remember reading in another forum (can't remember which, i'll look around for a link) that a large chain had run out of PowerBooks and iBooks and were expecting shipments on either the 7th or 11th of july.

Or, a more cynical explanation:

There will never be an iBook update. The migration to Intel chips is a ruse. Apple will not produce any more Macs, but will instead buy a stake in eBay, and control all resales of old PPC Macs...

The reason why all your shipping dates are being messed with is because Steve is trying to make existing stock last long enough for him to sell his Apple stock and move to an isolated fishing village in Guam, to live out the rest of his days safe from the hordes of murderous Mac fanatics.

But no worries, there'll be new iPod Minis next Tuesday.

Unfortunately (for all the new-iBook-heads) this promotion lasts till september...

Still, I somehow don't think that's necesserily a sign of no new iBooks until the promo ends. The promo doesn't include the cheapest iBook anyway, and with the new iPod line (possibly new Shuffles, and Mini's??) they just might be gettin rid of the old mini's and boost summer sales. Or attract new switchers. I mean why sell/develop/upgrade a product targeted for students, that would only sell for new students before school starts? I bet the iBook sells ok after the back-to-school (sept-oct), no matter when they upgrade it.

Think about it, if july-august is the time for new students to buy new laptops, and november-december is all about the christmas sales. Has apple ever had a sale or a promo in september or october for students (this is an honest question, I really don't know!)?

p.s. My first post, although been following this thread for a long time.
p.p.s. I want the damn iBook....give it to me.

I'm not really counting on updates this week or anytime soon, but I'm not ruling it out altogether. It's possible they released the free iPod deal a week or two before upgrading the iBooks in order to move some stock of the old books before the upgrade. That wouldn't be a very nice thing for them to do--luring consumers into buying a product about to be updated--but I wouldn't be completely surprised. Oh well. I'll give it a couple more weeks just to see.

Just to quash my own theory, I got an email today saying my Powerbook had shipped. Well, at least it shows I have an active mind :)

259 days since the last update (average being 158)..... I think they're going for 340. :D
