I feel the same way. As soon as I saw the iMac and its specs, I thought, This could be my next computer.
It was an upgrade definitely worthy of that line of thinking, I had the same thoughts.

However, my problem is that nothing on my ultimate wish list has been satisfied yet for my next computer - iLife '07 pre-installed, 10.5 Leopard pre-installed and Blu Ray Superdrive.

My current mac is a 1 GHz 17" iMac. (That's similar to your machine, isn't it ~Shard~?) The machine has simply been amazing but, sadly, it's starting to show its age.
Yes, good memory my friend, my machine is a 17" 1.25 GHz G4 iMac.

Luckily I have not felt like it is showing it's age just yet, so I am probably not in quite the same boat as you. I am still planning on buying a new Mac in 2007, and I don't see why my current one won't be able to last me another year at least.

On top of that, I have to get a new hard drive for my current mac. I've been running on empty for a while there.
I hear ya - more HD space is always nice. That's why I BTO'd my iMac with the 160 GB HD right off the bat. I do keep it very clean, but I'm glad I have all that space. When I think of the amount of storage I have on my PC HDs though, and the hundreds of DVD-Rs I've burned, it is a little scary...

Oh, and I understand how the pros might be upset with this event/announcement. However, the way Apple updated their iMac at an iPod-oriented event was simply genius. The more they market that computer (and the mini) to the iPod crowd, the more we'll see the halo effect materialize. Don't worry. The pro stuff will be along shortly, no doubt.
Absolutely. If the iMac received such a significant upgrade as this, just imagine what's in store for the PowerBooks and PowerMacs! I don't think that 7448s and 970MPs are out of the question, and by installing DDR2 RAM and PCIe video cards in the new iMac, Apple has pretty much set a benchmark that the PowerMacs will meet or exceed without question. Precedence has been set!
