Those definitely look legitimate. Looks pretty nice. Doesn't look that ergonomic or functional. If this is the new keyboard, I'm surprised that Apple didn't put media buttons on it.

as long as imac comes with a monitor
i dun care how good looking is the keyboard

i say fake.

the combination of alu+plastic? no way

the 4 little round 'feet' are positioned in such as to be ineffective

FAKE :D

The iMac currently is aluminum + plastic. So are a number of Apple's other products.

Whats up with all the non-us posters claiming keys are missing, this is a US-En keyboard, not UK-En and definetly not Norwiegen or Swedish, you guys are just confusing the Americans with your § and the @ not being on the 2 key discussions. They will localize it, they same way they always have, the only things changed are the volume, eject, dashboard keys, and the Apple missing.

I would've rather seen the command key removed instead of the Apple key. It's been the Apple key for 20 years, dating back to when there was a "black Apple" and a "white Apple" key.

It DOES need a "command" label though if it will no longer have an Apple. Nobody in tech support could ever be able to describe what a "command" key looks like...

This is a keyboard, right?

It's ugly enough to be real. I'm typing on the old skool pro keyboard, with nice chunky keys that you can mash without mis-spelling or slipping off of.

I hate the keyboard on the macbook, it's not really for the hardened typers out there. But you would compromise on a laptop, although my old 12" PB had a nice feel to it, even older G3's were nice too.

I agree silver and white is cheapo like on the mac mini. This keyboard does look real, lets hope the iMac isn't two tone too!

Pretty believable, despite the F key weirdness. Since Apple portables have the same vertical key travel as a desktop keyboard, this would too.

And I see Apple finally solved the issue of the Help key being useless in OS X

F3 looked more like Expose to me (lots of smaller windows in a big window), seems like a silly move right now, but who knows.

I'm not fond of some of the changes (if real). I liked having the volume controls above the numeric keypad; they were easy to find. I also don't like how flat the keyboard is. I like the tactile design of the current keyboard. (Actually I think the best keyboard Apple's had in a while was the one that came with the G4 towers. The current keyboard is a real dust-catcher.)

Some people like the extra 2 USB ports a USB keyboard brings, perhaps that's why they will keep 2 different connections. Some people also don't like the lag that wireless methods offer.

I like the option of extra USB ports on the keyboard. Why not place one on each side of the back of the keyboard? They could act as feet to raise the back.

As far as Bluetooth goes, the idea is fine but what I don't like is having one more thing in the house that regularly has to be fed batteries. The wire isn't that big an issue for me. I don't sit that far away from the screen.

also mighty mouse = white, imac and keyboard = metal.... bit of a clash....
i'm not sure i'm a fan of the white on metal look.
the white keys look a little tacky/plastic like against the metal.
The white on metal IS butt ugly... liking the white on metal betrays a lack of style.
god awful white on brushed metal?
the white plastic on the aluminum looks TACKY and cheap.

Ahem...it's nothing new.

I hope it's USB 2. Where I work, there are quite a few people who use flash drives and their painfully slow on current Apple keyboards. That's why I only connect mice, printers and other USB 1.1 devices to it. Might as well save as many USB 2 ports as possible. As for the rearrangement of the keys, my question is why? I don't care that much, but still curious.

I also wish it were an ergonomic keyboard. I think I'm forming carpal tunnel syndrom. I know Apple would do something really cool w/ it. Also, I would also have liked to see media keys (maybe a button to open Safari, one for iTunes, whatever) or maybe an OLED keyboard. Those are cool.

"cloverleaf"

It does have media control keys, in the top row.

Why only 1 USB socket? And why on the one side and not in the center? I also hope it's USB 2. Key re-arrangement is weird. I could get used to that though. As for USB ports--couldn't there be one on the other side too? (Maybe I missed something in the 9-page thread.)

I absolutely love the direction in which Apple's design is heading. I can't wait to see the new iMac!

There seems to be some confusion about the layout of the typical QWERTY. As far as I can tell, this new keyboard model looks to be the US version. I'm sure many people know this, but to illustrate, I suggest everyone takes a look on flickr.

A few examples:
UK MacBook
UK MacBook 2
US MacBook

Hmm, I noticed "num-lock" on the "clear" key is gone.
Which isn't ever going to be a problem because that key didn't do anything, num-lock is always on despite pressing it, on every mac I've ever used.
Could someone explain why it was there on previous/current Apple keyboards? For use with XP maybe?

Edit: Ok, apparently its been missing for awhile. But still... why in the first place?

"don't futz with the logo"

Actually, the screwy logo on the sticker caught my eye right off the bat. I remember way back when I was an Apple Campus Representative, one of their marketing people (I forget who) yelled at some guys because they put a graduation cap over floating over the logo. He very vehemently said, "don't ever futz with the logo." Having said that, I think I agree with you. I'm a graphic designer with a fairly large corporation, and you should see some of the terrible, horrible things people do to our logo on internal stuff. Especially test engineers and the like. And we're pretty anal about how our logo is treated. It's annoying because they could just ASK for the proper logo, but they never do. Anyway, I can see it happening, even as tight as Apple is.

I just had this illusion that somehow Apple was a graphic designer's dream-world where the logo was never "futzed" with, and everyone strictly adhered to the corporate style guides. Oh well. If these are real, looks like the dream is over... ;)

1.) The keyboard is propped up on a camera lens.
2.) They don't probably actually use that many of those stickers. They were probably produced quite a while ago, perhaps as a rush job. If the public aren't going to see them, why bother spending ages setting up perfect artwork for 50 or so stickers?
3.) Things change. My iMac keyboard is quite a bit different from an old PowerMac 7200 keyboard we have in the office!

It definitely looks sexy, but I don't know if I'd want to type on it. I like the current keyboards with their positive feedback. This looks like some sort of cheapo HP keyboard that has mushy keys. Those of us with big hands and fingers needs something we can beat on without slippage.

As for the lack of an :apple: on the command button, it could just be a developmental oversight that will be remedied within final production??

Oh, for the days of Open- and Closed-Apple keys :p

Oh, and media buttons are stupid.

This is what I use on my PC at home (which will be sold and replaced by the new iMac):

It is very thin, with small laptop style keys. It is very nice to type on, so I don't understand the 'it's fake because it looks ergonomically horrible to type on' posts.

The keys are completely different in the rumored version. Your keyboard has the traditional keys, which most people are used to. the rumored version has chicklet style keys, a bit unappealing and slightly cumbersome

remember this flop? :D

Wow, amazing the negatives. Since the only thing you can base off of pictures are the looks, I'm surprised people find this ugly.

I think it looks great and can't wait to USE! one before I pass judgment on it. Jeez.

Edit: Ok, apparently its been missing for awhile. But still... why in the first place?

I am using a wireless apple keyboard right now and there is no num-lock. And the past 5 regular apple keyboard I've seen havn't had it.

Edit: Ooops, didn't see your edit :)

Certainly looks real to me. I think getting rid of the Apple logo on the command key is a good thing. New users always call it the Apple key unless they've read books and things. It causes a lot of confusion when I say something like 'press Command-W'.

And I'm very much for an easier-to-clean keyboard. The G5 keyboard is horrible in that respect. Lots of crud collects and is very visible - yuk.

On thing nobody has mentioned (which probably means I'm crazy) is in the close up photo of the bottom, it almost looks as though the keyboard were internally illuminated as in backlit keys. I know this could just be the plastic surface reflecting different lighting, but I dare to dream.

Now as long as those ports are USB 2.0 and powered, I'm happy.

Ahem...it's nothing new.

hahahahahaha touche!

I honestly don't see anything hideous about it so I don't know what all the fuss is about. As for their legitamacy, it looks like something Apple would design. They do tend to put form over function on certain occasions (the iPuck is a perfect example) but I managed the puck and I'll manage this keyboard if I end up ever using it.

The thing that makes this thing really shout "Apple" is the really simple lines. Apple is very-much into the rounded rectangles. MacMini & AirPort Extreme are two perfect examples. This keyboard fits that scheme.

The only thing I dislike about this keyboard is the M.I.A. Open-Apple Key. I'm sad to see it go after so many years.

Requiescat in pace, Open-Apple Key. You served me well.
