Whats up with all the non-us posters claiming keys are missing, this is a US-En keyboard, not UK-En and definetly not Norwiegen or Swedish, you guys are just confusing the Americans with your § and the @ not being on the 2 key discussions. They will localize it, they same way they always have, the only things changed are the volume, eject, dashboard keys, and the Apple missing.
I would've rather seen the command key removed instead of the Apple key. It's been the Apple key for 20 years, dating back to when there was a "black Apple" and a "white Apple" key.
It DOES need a "command" label though if it will no longer have an Apple. Nobody in tech support could ever be able to describe what a "command" key looks like...
Hmm, I noticed "num-lock" on the "clear" key is gone.
Which isn't ever going to be a problem because that key didn't do anything, num-lock is always on despite pressing it, on every mac I've ever used.
Could someone explain why it was there on previous/current Apple keyboards? For use with XP maybe?
Edit: Ok, apparently its been missing for awhile. But still... why in the first place?
What's the whole point of keeping the Apple logo there? It confuses new users when someone tells them "Command" key, which people use more often than "Apple" key. Getting rid of the logo makes room to put "command," on it.
The new placement of the buttons is def. questionable, but when was the last time you saw an application that actually used those function buttons?
i like the keys (always loved the macbook keyboard), but i'm not sure i'm a fan of the white on metal look. i'm always wondering about a wireless version. where could the batteries go?![]()
I don't think this is real.
1. It's ugly.
2. Look at the closeups... the keys don't fit right
3. Apple logo doesn't look right
4. It is FANTASTICALLY non-ergonomic
5. Someone is willing to sell them to you now.
Well for starters Ableton Live uses the F keys by default as the channel on/off switches.
That said, you have to disable the native functions as it is (system volume, display brightness etc) because holding down fn + F1 every time you wish to turn channel 1 on or off in a real world scenario (especially playing live!) is just plain silly.
Now I think about in fact, just about every pro app I can think of makes extensive use of the F keys; Logic, Final Cut and so on.
This keyboard would be great if it were not for the stupid layout of the top row of keys. Why in the world would you want to use a "fn" key when you didn't have to?
I created an account here just to respond to this because the same thing happened to me, albeit more personal.
When I bought an iPhone on day 1, I had the first unboxing pictures up on Flickr minutes after 6pm Eastern time, even before Engadget posted their pics. Someone actually posted a link of my set to Engadget's comments. Within an hour, the comment was deleted. I emailed Ryan about it and he said it was flagged as spam. I call BS, and they are just trying to protect the traffic to their site.
I love reading Engadget, but actions like that are uncalled for and frankly p*ss me off.
I'm going to say it's for a strong contrast between keys and surface. Why couldn't they just have silver keys like on the mbp?
