I think getting rid of the Apple logo on the command key is a good thing. New users always call it the Apple key unless they've read books and things.

What? The term "Command" was never used until the PowerPC days, and it was used by the new-comers who didn't know or understand the power of the "Open-Apple" Key. Their numbers grew and grew until today where the "socially accepted" terminology is "command." BLECH! I spit at you command-sayers. It was always "Open-Apple" ... and in my heart, it always will be.

And next time you call me a newbie, I will detonate a rocket in your stomach, newbie.

Here's what it should have looked like.... attachment.php.jpg

UGLY!

credit

You know one reason why I like MacRumors is they give credit where credit is due. For example, in this news, they point back to engadget and also to flickr, whereas other news sites (not going to mention names) take credit for themselves by not referring back to the site that first got the info and labeling every picture with their logo.

Non- Ergonomic?

I don't think this is real.

1. It's ugly.
2. Look at the closeups... the keys don't fit right
3. Apple logo doesn't look right
4. It is FANTASTICALLY non-ergonomic
5. Someone is willing to sell them to you now.

Actually its quite ergonomic. The key to many of the repetitive strain injuries (Carpal Tunnel) involves improper wrist position (flexed or extended). If the keyboard is somewhat thinner then your wrist will be in a more neutral position. Hopefully it won't take much getting used to though.:)

Throw in the Dvorak layout, and this keyboard will be really nice for ergonomics.

Not that my opinion matters, but these photos look very real indeed. If they don't jack the price up for these keyboards, there might be one in my future...

looks nice, but I'm not sure if I like it better then the current keyboard.. I'll have to see.

Also, is that a power button on the F4 key?

Apple's losing its taste.. Nothing (except the MB's keyboard) has given me a WOW factor since the 5th gen iPod was released. =\

Wait, so the keyboard that this is obviously modeled after DID wow you, but this does not?

What I need is a POWER BUTTON in the keyboard. I cannot easily acces the CPU Mac power button.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. This things is a farce, a joke, one of the best mockups I have seen (since many of them are just terrible and obvious) but it was a nice try. I hope this thing never sees the light of day. Daysleeper you forgot some things

6. Changed the key positions for NO REASON!
7. Changed the key names for NO REASON!
8. Apple strives for simplicity but they changed EVERYTHING FOR NO REASON
9. The keyboard looks like that awful keyboard on the MacBook
10. The USB ports on the bottom are too sunk in
11. This thing is just fugly, and Steve don't do fugly.

Hit the blue apple and go down to shutdown.

Looks good to me. I'll get it.

Most users of the MB keyboard already said that it's one of THE best keyboards out there, although the Apple Extended Keyboard II will ALWAYS be the best keyboard in the history of computers.

If real, this design is awesome; I just hope it has also backlighting and the Apple logo in the command key.

What an ergonomic nightmare. Flat desktop keyboard? I can understand on a notebook where you have little room for other stuff, but a desktop? At least the current keyboards have a slight curve to them from back to front.
While not as impressive as Microsoft's Natural Keyboard (about the only good thing to come out of Redmond), it is still better than your generic flat keyboards.

It's angled.

I currently use a black Enermax keyboard for my PC and it is fantastic! I welcome any change to Apple keyboards.

This thing would be amazing if it didn't have a Windows logo on it. I do like that fact that it has a headphone jack on the side, that's innovation.

AKA The Best Laptop Keyboard Evar?

I will go half way with you. The best keyboard ever on a consumer Mac laptop EVER! But terrible as a desktop keyboard.

So... Rearrangement of keys.
Metal case (metal iMacs!)
Exposé icon

This obviously is a REAL PHYSICAL keyboard... but is it Apple?

I would say no at this point because:
The death of italic letters?
The death of the Open Apple icon?
FN key? Why on a full keyboard?
Placing icons on on 'F' keys makes NO sense, as users change this to their own liking. Also... F19?!?

That's the bullet....! You got it Matthew didn't spot that one

Those keys should be the volume buttons and eject keys, since they put them over on the F11 and so forth keys they had nothing to do with the original ones. The idiot that mocked this up didn't realize that Apple would never have configurable F17-F19 keys, while shoving everything that used to be there over to the other side and leaving the users with a bloddy FN key to activate certain things.

FAKE

Not really innovation. HP's keyboards have had headphone (and mic input) jacks for years. It's kinda cool, but it's just more cables to plug in.

Good point. There would need to be extra cords like the ones on the keyboard I was looking at. It would be nice if they could send the signal through the USB port, and it would eliminate the need to reach around a 24" iMac to get your headphone plugged in. Or I could stop being so lazy.

Guess it's a personal preference issue. I enjoy slimline keyboards (love my MacBook, use an Eluminix backlit slimline on my home PC) - less finger travel + appropriate feedback = quicker typing. If you prefer big, clicky keyboards (which I quite like, but find I'm less efficient on), I can see being very disappointed with this new design concept. For me, though, manna from heaven.
