But what about software??

Agree

Yea I need to see what they are offering before I decide...Hopefully we find out.....when is WWDC?

* I'm wanting to get back into making music and was saving up for a 27" + 1TB SSD + 16gb RAM( or 32 if I do it myself) + Logic Pro X + i9...........It's like $3,900 after tax.

* I would love newer look with smaller bezels, but I'm worried about the ARM chips and how they will work with Logic Pro X.

* I'm ok with just getting the 2019 27" as it's a huge upgrade from my 2007 MBP anyways...lol

** My Problem is I bought the 2007 MBP and then they released the new one like a month later.
* I don't want to wait until 2021 to start making music again so if that is the release date then I'm probably going with the 2019...........unless the changes are so awesome that it would be worth the wait.

My business is run on a 2015 5K. I love it, and plan to keep it for another year or two at least, but if they redesign this year, and slightly improve next year, I'd love to see it. My computer is great minus the fusion drive, which is fine. But next time, I'll get a 1 or 2TB SSD, and hopefully be able to put both the iMac and two matching 4k monitors on VESA mounts. Three screens for life!

Literally the same situation I'm in right now. If they do a full redesign similar to the picture, I'll consider selling it and taking a loss to get the upgrade since I'll hold it for years afterwards. If they increase the screen size to 30 or 32" like the pro display, then I'll DEFINITELY sell and buy the new one.

Yeah good idea. I KNEW this would freaking happen lmao. Ugh.

Luckily I got the iMac for a really good deal because I used an Apple employee’s discount. So as long as these new prices are in line, I’ll be breaking even or getting money back.

I’m excited to see it. I wouldn’t mind an iPad Pro x Pro Display XDR hybrid. Imagine?

I’ve been waiting for a major redesign to update my 2012 iMac but year after year, it just never came. So the Mac that I have on my desk is going on 8 years. Somehow, it’s still perfectly usable.

Its FusionDrive died a few years ago, I run macOS off an external SSD. Its arm hinge snapped in the middle of the night a few months ago, I propped it up with some books. Now, the fan is starting to make funny noises an this iMac has received its likely final macOS update.

And now with a new iMac on the horizon, I’m not even sure I need a Mac at all. My iPad Pro has become my main computer. I think I would be fine with a nice Apple display that you can plug an iPad Pro into and get true multi display multitasking.

Impressive, you've kept that iMac working through more than most folks would endure! My 2014 iMac has been trouble free but the SSD may be a big part of that.

If Apple want to transition OSX over to ARM I don’t see why they don’t just build both Intel and ARM into the first few generations of machines to enable 100% backwards compatibility?

Hmmm, interesting thought. Is it practical? I have no idea.

I just received a new iMac yesterday, if the redesign happens on 27”. I’ll have no choice but to issue a return. Will be tight, but doable provided they show it the very first day.

if you feel that way then you might as well initiate the return now. They won't only redesign the smaller size, it will surely be for the full product line.

It will be interesting if for nothing else to see what Apple do without Jony Ives.

Jony Ives has been gone for just under a year, which may seem like a long time however the development period for a new product including putting it into production is much longer. I think that it is likely that this new iMac design was developed under Ives leadership and probably pretty much finalized by the time he departed Apple.

This could end up being an expensive year.

I need to update my phone, desktop and portable device.
So iPhone, iMac and iPad are all on my to buy list. 😬

Fortunately, I'm good with phone and tablets. And my iMac is 6 yrs old, my wife's MacBook is 5 yrs old. I'm already starting to draft up my rationalizations for upgrading as soon as the announcement is made . . .

WOW! If this is true I may need to cancel my order! I just ordered an 8 core i9 with the vega 48 card and 3 tb fusion drive. This is tough because my 2013 is dying and I need the new one for video editing.. It's going to take a month to get here though. Should I cancel and wait??

Yes, you should. Tough it out for a few weeks and be glad you did for the next few years.

I actually just want a monitor like the Pro Display XDR for my MacBook Pro, but if I can get a whole computer that looks just as good for half the price I’ll definitely take it!

I think I kept it going because a Mac fell out of priority to my iPad Pro. I never replaced my MacBookPro when it died. I still like using my iMac when I feel like sitting at a desk but it’s just a nice to have and only for a small handful of tasks is it a requirement. It’s impressive how far along the iPad has come that it has truly become my main computer, not only for content consumption but as my main work productivity device.

As someone who used to opt for Fusion Drives for capacity, how do people with experiences of SSDs find the 128gb in this regard?
I find that 128gb is fine for me as long as I have the option for external storage from time to time. External storage is so fast now and most of my data is in the cloud anyways.

How about a 27” iPad Pro with Magic keyboard and stand. That would be awesome - like a giant portable Surface Studio.

This what I’ve been waiting for. My iPad Pro is my main computer. A 27” desktop iPad on an articulating arm that can be lowered to desk level for direct manipulation and Apple Pencil use would be my dream desktop.

I am so ready. My original 5K iMac has served me well for the last six years, but to present in Google Meet I literally need to put two giant iceblocks at the back of it and manually crank the fans to 100% to prevent it from overheating and dying. And I vacuum the vents every week. I even bought the tools to pull it apart, but the 141 step process of getting to the gpu (main overheating offender) to clean and reapply thermal paste broke me. And just keeping UI elements in the same spot for five minutes will cause retention these days. *sigh*

Might be some sweet deals on the 2019 27-inch coming up via third party sellers. That seems more tempting than a first gen Apple product to me.

So... I Guess now isn’t a good time to upgrade my 2013 iMac 27?

I’ve been itching to get the 2019 iMac but kept putting it off. it’s fine for word processing but is hit when creating content. Loading/rendering is quite slow if I were honest - I could go make an omelette, come back and still see the load bar...
