Is it just me, or do a lot of people not like the new Mac? I mean I don't like the wireless keyboard and how it lacks the number keypad, but I like the new design, just as much as (if not more) the older Mac. Just after reading several threads, that seems to be the overall impression that I'm getting.

I like the new design myself. Though I guess it means we'll have years to wait ('til the next redesign) 'til there's a chance for Apple to stop using pointlessly expensive laptop CPUs and GPUs? :(

Maybe I've missed this being mentioned before but... The new iMac doesn't seem to have a magnetic dock for the apple remote anymore

I love the little magnetic dock!

Having bought my iMac 3 weeks ago and then hearing the new one was due out I was on a bit of a downer. As good as I'm sure the new one is, I don't feel like I'm missing out, new one just doesn't look that great but if I was in the market I'd still get it, just not as clean looking as the outgoing model.

I really was surprised to see that you still can't plug in a 30" ACD.

I'm going to wait until Apple released the quad core version which I bet will be just after Leopard before deciding, maybe the MacPro will be my next machine.
the best was still the G4, the last model was fugly, this one is not bad.......but still not buying yet

The old 7600GT is a better card for gaming performance.

What about 7300 GT? I have an option now (I called apple store) to buy a previous iMac for $CAD 1849, but the video is 7300, I can not upgrade anymore. What would you do, go for new one or the yesterday one?

I like that Apple has started putting 1x1 gig ram modules in the new iMacs ( even though you'd have thought they'd be putting 2 gigs in as standard).
The 2x512 modules they had previously had in were really crap when it came to upgrading later.

I'd go with the HD2600 Pro in that situation.

Well, the leaked keyboard pic did have "non cosmetic unit" stuck to the bottom on it. I'm waiting for all the "OOOooooh that pic is soooo fake!" people to chime in here.

They have all failed. They should leave the internet for good :D

the easiest way is to set iTunes music location, select "keep itunes music folder organized" and then consolidate library. all your music will be consolidated into the desired folder and you can delete your original music folder afterwards. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR LIBRARY DATA FILES!!

whenever you don't have your external plugged in, if you start your iTunes and import music, the music will be imported to your internal hard drive (default music location). Once you plug in your external though, exit and restart itunes and the music location will point back at the external hard drive and all your music will be accessible. Works quite well IMO

I think the OP meant that they'd have the enclosure close at hand, if not plugged in at all times, but it might be shut off and not turned on by accident, and that they'd rather be reminded of it powered off.

To be on the safe side, I suggested using the 'add to library' function since the OP was considering moving the library between different systems-- and the file owner for the original library's files would be wrong.

Dare I say it, but one of these new iMacs would look good running Vista under BootCamp!

I'm typing this on my new 20" iMac and I love it. Picked it up at the local Apple Store. They are not yet on display. Evidently they were not allowed to sell them until the press conference was over. I got the education discount ($100 off $1499 model, $50 off $169 Applecare, and iPod rebate). I really like the black border. I was unsure about it at first but it really makes the screen stand out, almost float, and completely hides the camera. As for the glossy screen, looks very bright and vibrant to me. Looks great unless I turn it so that the window is directly in front of it and then it's only slightly more reflective than my previous monitor. I like the keyboard as well. It has a very soft feel and it very comfortable to type on. The best $1400 I ever spent on a computer.

I would have liked to get 2gb RAM. I understand that 1gb is enough for most consumers but it can't be that expensive. Don't mind too much, Apple's RAM upgrade prices are so high, I was planning on upgrading it myself anyway.

Not sure how I feel about the video card. I would have liked to see something with a little more 3D power, 8600 like the MBP, at least. I think the 2600 is fine for me now but I kept my last Mac for 4 years and was hoping this one would last that long as well. On the other hand, I really like that they choose a card with hardware decoders for video. This Mac will double as our TV in the bedroom and we watch a lot of TV and videos on it. Dedicated H264/MPEG/Divx decoder will come in real handy.

Just my 2 cents. I encourage everyone to take a look at it in person if you can, I found it to be much more impressive in person than I did watching the live coverage this afternoon.

Do you know if it has 1 x 1GB stick of ram or 2 x 512s?

Also is the cpu inside this the new santa rosa chips used in the new macbook pros??

Thanks :)

BT Keyboard dissapointing

I can live without the num-pad, but having to us the "fn" key for page up/down home/end SUCKS! I love my 17" MBP but as a software developer I absolutely hate it's keyboard for coding.
I guess I'll snap up one of the last get BT keyboards now while I can unless anyone out there can recommend a good alternative one. (has to be blue tooth)

In my perfect world, I'd love a reproduction of the old Apple Extended Keyboard II with BT! (maybe I'll try to mod my old ADB one into BT!)

Is that the new Mac Pro keyboard too?

Does anyone knows if the Mac Pro now will come with this new keyboard or stick with the old one untill some "pro" keyboard is released along a Mac Pro update? I don't think this new keyboard really fits within a "pro" machine...:confused:

I don't apple will go back to CRT's...so It would probably use the same design as the current imac..and if they took out the isight then people would be confused cause it wouldn't be obvious...

i don't mean crts i mean a cheap mac for education or people who want an all in one thats cheaper than the currant imacs

Ok, I was waiting for the new models as much as the next guy. One thing I'm not sure about, though, is the glossy screen. I've seen a lot of negative remarks towards glossy screens in this thread. I've never used a computer with a glossy screen. I'm ready to drop the dough on a new machine, but not sure whether I should wait to see whether they will offer matte screens instead. Otherwise, I think I'm content with the new ones.:)

I have to wait 3-5 weeks if I'm opting for the wireless keyboard? I guess I'm forced to use wires then. :(

Yeah I agree... plain aluminium or just classic white. Ive no idea where this decision to have a 2 tone black and alum combo came from, but really not liking it.

I think it looks OK. However, IM also very dissapointed in Jonathan Ives innovation. Hell, I seen better mock ups from the photo shopers out there.--))))

I just expected a lot more NEW innovation then a partially updated exsisting iMac.

If I needed another iMac I would purchase it. For now I live with my all white iMac Intel and Love it just fine--))))

Wheree's the iPods ?--)))))
