Glossy screen. I sit with a window behind me. I would have to redesign my office.

What, you think that's unreasonable? :) I had three of these in the queue to buy. I've used the MacBook screen - the reflection sucks. None of the places where these were going to go can handle a glare-type (proper industry term) screen. I'm going to look for the old ones on clearance.

the glossy screen kills it for me also...
love all the other goodies, but the glossy screen with no option to get a REAL screen scraps the possibility for me...

Or we could get Minis with a Samsung display.... what a buzzkill.

why do some people hate the glossy screen so much anyways?

Because you're trying to do work, and you have to focus through the reflection of the tree outside your window, and everytime the bird takes off from the tree, he flies right through your Terminal window. i.e. distracting

Anyone else thinking that the gloss-only option represents hardware being obligately put in place for future touch compatibility?

No, an anti-glare coating does not preclude the use of a touch rasterizer. Separate issues.

why didnt they ask about the gaming market in the Q&A:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The ground rules included, "7. No questions about gaming". Ask about games and you don't get invited back to the next press conference.

;)

Sorry if this has been said, but anyone else notice they took off the Apple logo on the command key? Now it has the pin wheel thing and "command".

Man, people with Apple ][e compatibility cards are going to be really confused. Everybody else in IT will be much happier.

Can't wait to find out the UK prices. No doubt we'll get ripped again!

Heh, we do this for fun.

First of all the on the home page... you can't start a sentence with "Or".

Or you could start a sentence that way, and really tweak off the syntax nazis.

A lack of a 17" model is bad for those looking for a lower priced iMac or those who have limited desktop space. I don't know what I'm going to use in 2 years when my current iMacs need an upgrade. I might have to go to Dell.

If a Mac isn't worth $150 more than a Dell, I pity the IT guys at your school.

Why do i have this feeling that apple will release a new imac (new design) at macworld and **** us all?

Wow, align some priorities, dude.

From what Jobs said, customers apparently really liked it in the focus groups. To quote "Customers say they love glossy displays."

Pay no attention to the RDF. As if a focus group is significant compared to people who've been using machines for months. Of course shiny things look good the first time you see them. We've been through this all before - in 1987. I bet the 'radical new industrial design' will look great with this on it:

Has anyone mentioned the pricing in education and ADC stores? ... What's going on??

Apple wants more money?

Well, I've been trying to like these all day. I even went down to the Apple store to see if they looked better in person (they actually looked even worse :( ). I'm hoping they grow on me, but for now I'm pretty bummed. I don't have the money to buy a white iMac now, and by the time I'm in the market, all that will be available is these ugly monsters.

They don't look very Apple at all. I think that going all black (like the back of them, or even like the screen border) would've looked wonderful. Matte silver and glossy black just look terrible together. These really do look a lot like something HP would've developed.

:(:(:(

At least the software department is spot on. Today's software updates look magnificent.

the two-tone imac returns...nooooo.. the black logo on the front is awful..
A plain black casing would have been so much cooler - i've never been a fan of any of the aluminium finish though..
what happened to apple's design elegance?

Question....

Does anyone know if the prices for the old 24 inch Imacs have dropped in retial stores? Also, when will Best Buy have the new models as I have a Best Buy card?

Ok, I was waiting for the new models as much as the next guy. One thing I'm not sure about, though, is the glossy screen. I've seen a lot of negative remarks towards glossy screens in this thread. I've never used a computer with a glossy screen. I'm ready to drop the dough on a new machine, but not sure whether I should wait to see whether they will offer matte screens instead. Otherwise, I think I'm content with the new ones.:)

Well. I've used several glossy displays and so far the reflections has been a non-issue. However, the new iMac seems a bit "glossier" than other displays so I'm not sure.

I don't know which one to get. :(

I'm mad they don't have 17-inch, since I mainly use with my ACD.

Should I get the $1199 or $1499?

Is the graphics card that much better in the $1499? I don't worry about the hard drive too much since I have huge external drives.

Thanks.

I think it looks OK. However, IM also very dissapointed in Jonathan Ives innovation. Hell, I seen better mock ups from the photo shopers out there.--))))

I just expected a lot more NEW innovation then a partially updated exsisting iMac.

If I needed another iMac I would purchase it. For now I live with my all white iMac Intel and Love it just fine--))))

Wheree's the iPods ?--)))))

iPods won't be for a few months at least I think.

Yeah, personally I think they spent so much time on the iPhone they have neglected to think about doing anything with the macs apart from refreshes. Mac Pro hasn't even been updated and the graphics card is way out of date.

Im thinking of getting the old iMac as it is still being sold here, see if I can get a discount.

Even this mockup is better than the new iMac imo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-d_CHY92Aw

If the back was the same colour as the front (alluminium not black...) i'd be fine with it, i sent a picture of it too my girlfriend, she looked at it and thought id made it in photoshop, no really... she hates it, oh well, only 3 or 4 years untill the next generation...

I've had my MacBookPro with a 17" Glossy screen since January and use it 10+ hours a day in a variety of lighting situations. Occasionally, in some of our meeting rooms with large windows, if I'm sitting with my back to the window, I get annoying glare but a quick tilt of the screen a 1/2 inch or so solves it quickly. In fact, my other machine (a 15" Toshiba M3) looks like crap in the same situation and no amount of adjusting helps as the light is diffused over the surface of the screen.

Anyone wish that the new iMac looked like the concept created by a MacRumors user a few weeks ago?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-d_CHY92Aw

He wasn't that far off, and his design was much better... and no structural reason it couldn't have been made.

But I am glad... makes my BlackBook the coolest Mac available... still!

The HD2600 Pro is much better.

Now that we have the Core 2 Extreme Processor (Mobile) in the iMac I wonder if would could see one in a MBP anytime soon ?

I agree, im not a fan of glossy screens really. But it's the black border as well having looked at it, it just doesn't sit well with the design. Maybe if I saw it in a store it would be different. Perhaps there will be an option eventually to have non glossy and completely aluminium/completely black?

I don't know about everyone else, but I absolutly hate typing on laptop keyboards, or ones that the keys dont go down as far as the previous desktop models. They always feel really cheap and dinky. Somehow I think this one is going to be no exception. I don't mind the black additions to the case but I think a black mouse may have done nicely with it or somthing, because now the whole setup is black, white, aluminium and glass all thrown into one. As for the specs, not too shabby.

It's possible but it is a much hotter processor.

That's OK I'm on-the-go alot being able to cook up some eggs and bacon would work out nicely :p

...

I must be strange, I actually like typing on laptop keyboards. Though I wish if Apple was gunna go that route, that they would have added backlighting as an option. and I wish they would offer a fullsized wireless option.

Cutting down the wireless version to exclude the numeric keypad is MADNESS. I won't get one, simple as that. If they think that there is a market for a more compact wireless keyboard then it should be an option and not the standard. I'll be lots of laptop users get exernal keyboards to use at home because they want a numeric keypad. Why force us to get the wired version. Very annoyed!

Sorry if this has already been asked but does anyone know if the iMacs at the retail stores have been replaced (upgraded) to the new iMacs. Or will we have to wait a while?

I was going to buy two new iMacs but I think I might buy the old white ones instead. I have a Glossy Macbook and i too see all of the crap moving out my window reflected back on the screen. With my current iMac the screen is fine. The Matt is better for me. If I was in a dark room looking at porno all of the time...well maybe:p
