Oh, I know, I was addressing the fact he said RAM, is the current iMac's hard drive even user serviceable? If it is, I learned something new today.
If you have the service manual or Google-Fu the hard drive is the third easiest component to upgrade after the RAM and wireless card. That is, after you take the LCD off.

Note: This is based off of my service manuals for the Core Duo/Core 2 Duo (Napa) based iMacs. I don't know how much this still applies to the Santa Rosa based iMac.

It's Conroe...

Macworld said up to 2.8 GHz and Engadget said Core 2 Extreme as an option.

It's Conroe! Hat-eating time, people! :D:D:D:D

Okay, so let's see. Significant processor speed increase. Significant graphics card increase (full generation newer). Significant redesign. Significant price drop (20" screen goes from $1499 to $1199, with all these new specs, that's $300 price drop).

So it's $300 cheaper, but faster, with better graphics, thinner, a new design, and bigger drives.

How could you ask for more?

Stand back and watch ;)

Mr. Jobs mentioned a 1T hard disk capacity.

Do you suppose this means:

a) each disk can be up to 1T in size
b) each partition can be up to 1T in size
c) the total amount of disk that can be handled within the box is 1T
d) the total amount of disk that iMac can access is 1T

The reason I ask is that with the prices of hard disk plummeting, I could easily seem people putting in T sized media centers, where their iTunes, DVDs, photos, etc. are stored, with the item on the house's wireless network, and iTV, iPod, iPhone, etc. all eventually being able to access and make use of the data.

However, 1T becomes a tight fit as HD quality video, etc. starts becoming common.

The iMac has enough internal space to hold one HD. Current HDs max out at 1 TB, so that's what Steve was saying was available. When they produce larger drives in the future, the iMac will likely support them.

no, he is right, there will be 2 keyboards. the wireless one is obviously the smaller one for carrying around or putting on your lap or w/e

Think about it, folks. Remember the leaked photos? People were asking why they moved the eject and volume to no longer be above the keypad. Now we know ... because the BT version has no keypad, that way the buttons stay consistent across the board.

Long Live The Chin!!!!

Alright!

Take THAT you chinless naysayers! The "chin" SURVIVES!

Bwa-ha-HA!

Without it, the new imac would have been a faceless screen in a sea of conformity.

I am happy to see the face is still there...staring back....smiling...sticking its chin proudly in the air.

LONG LIVE THE CHIN!!!

why do some people hate the glossy screen so much anyways?

if you've ever walked into best buy or anywhere, compare Sony's notebooks with their xBrite to normal lcd's, you will notice that xbrite is much better.

apple's glossy display is the same thing as son'y xbrite and vice versa

and by the way, I don't see any problems regarding reflection since you're not going to be taking your big fat imac outside into the sun anyways

I am sitting in my office on my iMac now. The screen is brite and beautiful. No reflections. Next to me is my MacBook. Yes it is brite but I also see the venetion blinds and trees outside reflecting in the glossy screen. We all do not sit in a dark room.

Store is back... sorta

Store is back up, but, uh, I get an error when I click on the iMac graphic:

"Did not receive any response from application. It is possible that the application does not exist, or that the requested url is incorrect."

Also, the mini looks the same, and the mini's page (apple.com/macmini) still lists a 17" iMac... odd?

tim said they were refreshing the mac mini. They didn't talk about it at all. What's gonna happen?

I noticed he slipped that little one in there too in the Q&A sessions... Waiting for the store to come up to see what refreshes there are. I've been waiting ages for a refresh, so I can get a Mac Mini in place of that god-awful :apple:TV.

I do like the new iMacs. I'm a bit under-whelmed at the Graphics Card, and very disappointed Apple is forcing Glossy on customers. I don't think many designers will be pushing their way to get one of those, especially where colour reproduction is crucial, but for general home use - not bad! :)

I can't say I love the new iMac's yet. They're growing on me, but still, the seem to look kinda ugly at the same time. Maybe I got the flu.. :p

The keyboard has a num pad.

what a revolution. 3 / 10 of an inch on width.

smart update!

new iMac looks smart.

Not sure if we call it a new iMac as such - I think probably yes because of the materials (who said it was just about form-factor)?

Apple's progress is now into maturity. There are many things they could have done but it is a balance about managing people expectations and the bottom line.

Thankfully they've kept the glorious chin - if a little less prominant than before - it says "I'm a computer actually love... alright"!:)

Wireless keyboard

OMG! The wireless keyboard got rid of the 10-key (something I never use)! That is so awesome. I have been wanting a keyboard just like this for quite a while!

The store is up, but I can't get to the Mini page from the store. Or the iMac for that matter. (Even though apple.com/imac works)

apple.com/macmini doesn't appear to be updated yet...

EDIT: Now the mini page throws the "We'll be back soon!" page... it'll be up soon

Is anyone else having trouble getting into any link in the apple store? The store is there, but it gives me error messages when I click the iMac, or any other computer.

Anyone else thinking that the gloss-only option represents hardware being obligately put in place for future touch compatibility?

i suppose that's possible, but i don't want a glossy screen and i certainly don't want a touch screen.

i want to be able to make my own decision, dangit. a glossy screen will never work for me.
