screw waiting for imac or macpro.

i just finished specing out a new i7 920 system
with 25.5 inch screen free printer 3 gigs ram
9800 gt card i dont even play games
w 2 500gb drives
just need to select my os and im still gonna be under 1950.

im excited!

lol i can get a system for 1242CAD with the i7 Quad Core too :p, but I already have PC.. I feel like getting a iMac, even if it is overpriced..

i think the imacs are decently priced not totally overpriced

but wtf still waiting for updates?
and chances of them happening till june
no thanks.
and i dont want to pay for a somewhat ok speed dual core thats just my figure.

plus i use my desktop for work primarily so as far as laptop goes osx and apple laptops are above and beyond what any manufac. can offer :D

1950 is a high estimate if i were to buy a new os
but im at 1650 now shipped.

buying from newegg.

9800 gt isnt a good card because???

im thinking of getting a cheaper card anyways.

CPU $294.99
MB $298.99
3GB DDR3 Memory $86.00
WD 500GB HD $64.99 each ($129.98)
9800 GT $129.99
1000W PS $209.99
Blu-Ray Drive $119.99
24" Screen $329.99
Total: 1599.92

Just seemed high to me, i guess that stuff adds up quick lol
I was just saying if your going to get a badass system why not get a nice GPU to go along with it to help with video, just my opinion.

i just want one that i can use to watch hd video and stuff and that doesnt use any of the cpu from the computer.

any recommendations whats better then the 9800 gt?
either cheaper or similarly priced ?

thanks

Congratulations. If you don't mind, I'd like to pit my 3.2GHz 8-core Gainestown Mac Pro against this machine in various benchmarks and professional applications when I receive it.

Care to be digitally humiliated? :D;)

Thats not even a close comparision, $1800 Vs $4000 ?

+1!! If you know enough about hardware then you should def build your own PC, its going to be faster and you save tons of money, and if you know how to overclock you can get even more out of PC without shelling out too much cash for it. I never understand why Mac fans constantly put down PC, I understand windows isn't the best operating system, honestly its not horrible either, but imo if you want the best performance possible & don't want to spend much money then PC all the way! and if you know what your doing you can install OSX, Linux or Windows, & up to 12GB Memory if u decide to get a LGA 1366 motherboard.

Main reason I've decided to get an iMac is simply because it looks really nice, and its clutter free. But PC is far from garbage, its Awesome! I spent $80 on my Processor and overclocked it to 3.2GHZ its a C2D!! 2MB Cache tho.. but I saved tons of money, thats something you can't do with a Mac.

EDIT: PS the cheapest i7 processor Core i7 920 can overclock to about 4.2GHZ!!!

Oh, so because my computer costs more it is expected to be better?

Okay, so we'll pit a Gainestown piece of Dell against a similarly speced Gainestown Mac Pro when they both start existing.

DJJONES is getting the lowest model i7 CPU and you want to compare it to the top of the line Gainestown processor (not even mass produced yet)

No doubt that OS X is by far the worlds greatest OS but I have to admit the the lack of updated hardware is really making you fan boys look pathetic! It is hilarious to watch you guys defend outdated hardware while posting millions of threads of your dream machine.

In my personal defense, I'd like to express my position on the state of the hardware in the current desktop lines.

Mac Mini: INEXCUSABLE. I don't even need to describe this one.
iMac: Outdated, needs updating.
Mac Pro: No cost-effective (or purposeful) updates exist, therefore the current hardware is still meaningful.

i agree.
i think apple's laptops is where they really excel, there desktops are really mediocre.

macpro's are great but still too pricey generally speaking.

i think if apple reconsidered there pricing scheme a bit it would look better for them, people wouldn't debate why they should buy an apple product when they can get more spec for the dough.

osx really sells there hardware though  props to them there.

OS X runs far better on my Aluminum iMac than Vista did on any of my machines (which had the newest hardware at the time). This iMac is what I wanted, it's what I expected to get when I bought it a month ago when it would have had "outdated hardware" and I am very satisfied with it.

Waiting for an iMac, but

I have been waiting for my 2005 HP Media Center to age enough so I have an excuse to by my first Mac, a 24" iMac. I get to use a Mac Pro and Macbook Pro for work (alongside my PC), but I have never had a Mac at home.

I have been excited to get the iMac since they switched to the aluminum body, the best looking computer ever I think. I love the look of the machine and want to have the iLife stuff to manage our family photos and create movies from digital tape. We are getting taxes back this year and the HP PC is 3 years old, so this is a go as soon as Apple releases new iMacs. I am having doubts though. I love the idea of an AIO and Apple's iMac is competitively priced, (HP and Dell's AIOs are about the same price) but prices for regular towers are amazing and give me pause. I priced an HP Media Center with the following:

Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad processor Q9400 (2.66GHz) (3Mb cache)
6GB DDR2-800MHz dual channel SDRAM (2x2048,2x1024
1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]
500GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
Blu-ray writer & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner
16x max. DVD-ROM

Dual (2) TV tuners, dual format ATSC-NTSC, PVR, 1 FM tuner, remote
HP w2408h 24 -inch widescreen flat panel monitor ( +$50 rebate)
HP stereo speakers with subwoofer and remote (2.1)

$1,739

That is pretty impressive, Good CPU, 6 GB RAM, great video card, a Blu-ray writer, the Media Center/DVR capability, and a 24" monitor. Could have more cache though and I can't see the bus speed.

However, I really want the iMac design, OS X, and iLife, so I'm pretty sure I am sticking with Apple, but man, that HP (Dell and Gateway have similar) is a tempting system. I see why people bring up an "xMac", there is a big hole in Apple's lineup for a mid-tower (or whatever). They can fit a whole lot more for less in that kind of system.

Do the maths!

Total Computer Sales for 1st Qtr '09 (S'9.1) shall be less than (<) S'8.1

The same with Total :apple: Computer Sales -> S:apple:'9.1 < S:apple:'8.1

And, as pointed out, :apple:'s share of the S'09.1 Pie
will roughly follow the same pattern of the 1st Qtr's of previous years;
maybe even declining a skosh because of the current price boundary.

That is to say, because the pocket$ of consumers are not as bulgy
as they've been in past years, Apparent Better Buy$ (such as PC),
could easily become a partial-market-force this year.

With That Said, as we know, :apple: is not all about computers...

:apple: also sells items Below the current commoner price boundary of say $1000..

Such as iPhones and iPods and iApps and iVids, iMusics and iWhatevers..

The existence of :apple:'s non-Computer Sales weigh well in :apple:'s favor.

:apple: will prolly jump to the bleeding edge of technology
when the Demand Across the Computer Consumer Board calls for it..
i.e., when Consumers have the Dough to warrant that expensive leap.

With existing stocks of various tech items sitting on the shelves of :apple:,
Computer Tech-Bumps are doable Now without an exorbitant rise in production costs.

The Net Sales Required to put out a (from head to toe) totally new :apple: computer
should surpass the exorbitant costs of retooling a New 'Puter.

Ergo, the Virtue of Patience has its valid and sometimes unforeseen reward
for those who're forced to do with less than what they WANTed...

But Some ride that never-ending Wave of Technological Progress aka TomorrowStan..

Never ever fully satiated.. Always Looking for Tomorrow to arrive;
which, by Tomorrow's definition, can never arrive -> ergo FrustrationCity!

Perhaps the end of that line of forever-wishful-thinking,
is a super-brilliant (and perhaps beautiful) android (with a 42" 'monitor'!),
whom you can call your own: and who waits on you, 'skis' with you,
and answers every question that you could ever dream of.

And then you bore of him/her.. :(

And then?

;)

The humongous Mac Pro is OK unless you bring a quad Core i7 into the comparison. The Mac Pro is a good value compared to other dual Xeon workstations.

But, when a $949 Core i7 quad mini-tower is about the same speed and capability as a $2799 octo Mac Pro - that's the very definition of "too pricey".

The number of people who truly need an octo Xeon is pretty small. Some do, but many are just looking for something other than an Imac.

Mini...Imac...[..huge gaping hole in the product line here..]...Mac Pro

Sure that they not come in february?
Because otherwise I'll buy a 24" 2.8ghz next week...

Well there's always that possibility, but im thinking March because thats when the Mac Mini's are said to release.. If it does happen in February I will be glad! If I were you I'd wait it out..

So, when I get my iMac, I'm gonna be using Logic Pro. Now, I'm on really limited funds here, so I can only afford the $1,199 model. I'm working on an album that I planned to self-release in May. Now, having said that, does anyone think that maybe the coming iMac updates would be good enough that performance in the low-end model would be boosted enough that I should probably wait, and push back my album's release date? Otherwise I planned my trip to the Apple Store for February 8th. It seems like a tough call to me, cuz I've been waiting a long, long time for a new Mac as it is. :(
