It looks like expandability might be back to some degree in the Mac line.

He said "tidbits". For those too young to remember the original Mac rumour resource was called TidBits and was available via FTP over the internet before there was a www.

Arn picked up that ball and threw a few touchdowns. He has a staff now. :D

Does this source have any credibility? I was hoping for a WWDC announcement. Don't really want to wait all the way to Late October/November to upgrade.

Stop using god damn AMD graphics chips. They're ****

Just curious, why do you think this? Generally, the people I come in contact with that think AMD is garbage don't actually know anything about graphics architectures, and just like nvidia because of the brand reputation they have for some reason.

Vega iMacs. I don't see why not, other than the fact it'll be put in a way-too-small chassis with trash cooling because Apple wanted a thinner desktop...

Vega will likely run too hot for the cooling system in the current iMacs.

A Xeon iMac? I don't know why, but I find it hard to believe Apple wants to stuff a Xeon into a chassis like the iMac. Don't the upper-tier i7-equipped iMacs already struggle with thermal throttling under intense load?
Yeah I agree. The nature of iMac means inevitable throttling. This is why Mac Pro is still important.

I share the anger over AMD, but at this point, I'll take what I can get.

I'm more interested in seeing an iMac redesign. It is the standard Mac workstation now, given that for the past decade or more it's been a better deal than a moderately equipped Mac Pro. (i.e. unless you get at least a 6-core MacPro the iMac is a better choice)

I'd love to see a design that matches an Apple branded display.

Oh! And four TB3 ports IN ADDITION to USB 3.0.

2016 Macbook Pro is a joke

How so? Not powerful enough for you or too expensive?

Edit: Please don't reply with a long rant. I'm just interested, I don't want to read another paragraph about how this is the End of Apple and It's All Tim Cook's Fault

They "designed themselves into a thermal corner" according to Schiller himself.

Maybe they have finally figured out that maybe, just maybe, thinner is not always better?

I'd rather not buy a computer that was effectively inseparable from its monitor.

It doesn't make any sense to me.

I just saw a demo of Windows 10 Create and it looks great.

For me a powerful iMac is great but unless MacOS, come the WWDC, innovates in the UI and really becomes more powerful I will switch to the SurfaceBook. More and more creatives are moving that way. Windows for a guy who hasn't used it in 15+years really is polished.

Octane Render--- CUDA!
Davinci Resolve -- CUDA!, yes OpenCL, but its not as fast.
The Foundry NUKE -- CUDA!
Adobe Mercury -- CUDA!... OpenCL crashes like crazy and is almost useless..

that just off the top of my head... goes on and on and on forever.

Also just because OpenCL is supported doesn't mean it works. I do film video tv graphics effects, OpenCL has never worked up to CUDA standards in our industry.

You can blame apple for the graphics....imacs can only use mobile versions so whether its AMD OR NVIDIA it doesn't really matter at this point they are pretty much on par for performance.

why all the hate on AMD graphics? I personally use products like FCPX and Hitfilm and my AMD does great. Now, If I were an Adobe man, then yes, I would want a CUDA option on this machine.

I think the pro level addition to the iMac is long overdue.

I have Mac Pro 5,1, and a somewhat pro level iMac would be great, fits a smaller space in my office. I still might get the transhcan lol, and keep the 5,1 as a memento.

Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign are De Rigeur for the publishing industry (one of Apple's primary markets). Ignoring CUDA would be a titanic mistake.

That's great, until you actually use one.

I installed Win10 in Bootcamp. My first Windows install since Win7.

It's still hot garbage compared to macOS. HOT. GARBAGE.

I never understood why anyone would want or prefer an extremely thin desktop. Its not like people carry them around all the time. The iMacG5/Core2Duo were thin enough IMHO, the latest models are just absurd. Personally, I'd rather get more powerful guts than an unnecessarily thin desktop.

Also, seeing as how Apple's TV plans arent going any where, maybe its time for them to consider something like FrontRow2?

Cheers.

Thin = light

Also, Core2Duo was not thin enough... I was a student back then. With books and papers in my bag, I always wished laptops would be thinner.

I think current Macbook Pro with Touch bar is thin enough. I say this because it wont be thick even if you put a cover on it. Laptop + cover thickness is important these days.

But I do agree, that Apple shouldn't make it thinner from now on.

I agree, but I personally don't use those items, mostly just some video editing and special effects on videos. I have nothing against Nvidia, I like their products, and with the new Titan Xp, I might be switching. I just don't use many programs for CUDA. This why I think that a new Mac Pro with modular design will be good. It allows those needing CUDA to have and those such as myself that need more OpenCL to have such.
