Less than a week ago everyone is worrying that Apple is abandoning professionals, now there's worry that Apple is abandoning consumers. So ironic how quickly that reversed :)

Two lines. One for the joes and one for the pros. How difficult could that be?

AMD...? Dear GOD Apple WHY!?!?!?! Make a good computer for once and use Nvidia....
Nvidia in a Macbook Pro or iMac, scares me due to the yesteryear issues with these graphics. But with an add-on on card for a new Mac Pro, I'm onboard with Nvidia or AMD. Heck, I'll have a card of each depending on my video editing needs.

A xenon with ECC memory and discrete GPU might actually be a workstation class iMac.

Well, AMD is OK, but the fastest pro-level GPU's are made by nVidia these days. I think a lot of graphic and video editors and engineers are going to remiss a professional product that opts for only AMD.

Also XEON does not make it a pro box either, in fact this is a little bit silly to put server level CPU's into an all-in-one desktop just to give a reason for Apple to charge stupid prices for it. In fact having a faster GPU is more important for video and graphic editing over the CPU, and for code compilation a XEON doesn't significantly out-perform the consumer i7 line up. A top spec'd i7 would be good for most "pro's" that are going to opt for a sealed computer with no future upgrade potential.

I think Apple is being obtuse about a pro level iMac, this is just a reason for Apple to raise the prices of some of their stale products to boost sales performance in those divisions without any real innovation. Suddenly "pro" is the new moniker for products to just charge a ridiculous Apple Tax on them with no real return to the consumer.

If Apple really cared about "pros" then bring back the aluminum tanks they used to offer before the pop cans and glue sealed monitors they offer today.

But will it be .3MM thinner?

I'd say no, but who can truly guess with Apple. The new/old iPad is thicker, so it could be. It not, it will likely melt under the pressure of heavy computing and rendering. My guess, any way.

Ok, so its a garbage site because they dont agree with you? They use the same benchmark software everyone else uses.

http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/inde...are=geforce-gtx-1080-ti-vs-radeon-pro-duo-8gb

None of this matters anyways because if Apple put either card in this tiny form factor it would melt...

No, they're a garbage site because they literally have wrong information. Their homepage has the GTX 1080 as having higher overall performance (over $300) than the Titan X, but lower than the 1070. Now, both the 1070 and 1080 beat the old Titan X in gaming, but the new one beats both of them. It doesn't matter which Titan X they're referring to, because they're wrong either way. In a comparison between the 7970 and the 280x (the same damn GPU, BTW) the 7970 gets an overall higher score, but they recommend the 280x. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-280X-vs-Radeon-HD-7970

Then there's the 460 vs. 750ti. The 460 objectively beats the GTX 750 Ti in practically every single game. Guess what GPUBoss says.

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-RX-460-vs-GeForce-GTX-750-Ti

It's not even that they're biased against AMD. They're just incompetent. 1060 vs 960. 1060 is faster in every single way. Guess what GPUboss says.

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-960-vs-GeForce-GTX-1060

They say the 960 is the winner of the comparison, despite the 1060 even getting the higher score.

It's totally fine that you didn't know better. It's totally fine that you're completely wrong and don't know it. But now is the time to swallow your pride and admit that you're completely and totally wrong.

I agree. While many people are form over function, I'm the opposite. Give me something that does the job, and then worry about design. While I like design, it doesn't mean much to me if I can't do what I want or need.

I agree, but given 2 comparable computers I would pick the better looking one unless it's a lot more expensive. I realize that "a lot" is very subjective and will vary from person to person.

What does your grandfather do that he would need one of these - DNA genome sequencing?

It's not about what he needs it for, it's about relative value. It's crazy that a machine with no updates costs the same as it did 18 months ago—especially a machine with a crap hard drive by default. I always buy Apple gear at launch and in the past this has been fine because the release cycles where at least somewhat predictable. These last few have been a little ridiculous.

If the man is going to plunk down a couple grand on a new machine that he expects to be his machine for 6 - 10 years, you want to get something that's forward compatible (Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C would be nice). And at this point, an SSD should be standard.

I don't think he needs a Xeon, but I also don't think spending on the current model at the current price is a particularly good idea either.

Bring back the Xserve! macOS seems like a natural fit as a server operating system. Then beef up macOS server with additional management utility and damn we'd be in business. One can dream I suppose...

I have researched the same information on numerous other sites and their information backs up exactly what GPUboss says about your precious AMD duo ********. It doesnt beat the 1080ti in anything except memory bandwith. And my initial argument to you was addressing the statement you made that the AMD duo was the fastet card on the market. I guess you missed the release of the 1080ti or you would have realized you were wrong BEFORE I made my comment. And sorry, but I dont get my news and stats from reddit feeds, Im not a Trump voter...

I don't give a **** about the Radeon Pro Duo. I just hate GPUBoss, and can't stand when people use it. I think the Pro Duo is kindof a ****** card, a total half measure because AMD couldn't put any high end competition up at the time. I never commented to you about the Pro Duo, and I don't care to discuss it. I literally just hate GPUboss.

Don't really want to talk politics in MacRumors, but do people really think reddit is some Trump bastion?

Dodging them bullets like a pro. Dont comment if you cant back it up with something more than reddit threads. Im not the one that made false claim that the Duo was the "fastest card", that was you sir. And now youre calling the card a "half measure" when 5 minutes ago it was the "fastest card on the market"? And when you were proven wrong you went on a blaming spree. And now youre not taking ownership over your comments. I think its you that needs to swallow your pride.

Buuuut Johnny Ive is obsessed with thinness... What will he possibly do if he can't demand the thing is thinner?!

Well, he was in charge for the design of the original iMac. I wouldn't mind if he could re-imagine the graphite iMac DV SE design language using recyclable plastic and bring back some form of its aesthetics today. Those were extremely beautiful, organic-looking, inspiring, and to top it all, powerful machines. We should be getting the equivalent of that today.

The fastest GPU in the market is AMD's Radeon Pro Duo...
1. That thing is two GPUs, technically
2. Even a GTX 1070 is faster than a Radeon Pro Duo
3. For the price of one Radeon Pro Duo you can easily buy two GTX 1070, have twice the RAM, less TDP and god knows how much more performance.

Exactly. Try testing it against two 1080s in SLI. Because thats REALLY its closest competition....And it gets smoked.
