The more I look at the new machine, the more I get excited/happy. I have a 2016 Touchbar 13". While I love the concept of the touchbar, it just isn't practical for me (programmer). Besides missing a physical esc key, it was unresponsive on day one, and hasn't gotten any better with software updates. Good riddance!

The full-size function keys are exciting as well - I might be able to you know, press one without looking at my keyboard! I don't think I've ever had an Apple laptop with full-size function keys.

Not happy about the extra 1/2lb, but I'm willing to accept that tradeoff, as the other benefits of the machine outweigh a little extra weight.

The 16" is only infinitesimally larger than the "old" 2019 model: +0.6mm thickness and +2.2mm in length and depth.

Can't wait for mine to arrive... unfortunately I'm going to have to it doesn't get delivered until the middle of November.

Do people not know that the Mac cursor obscures itself automatically when appropriate? Try it: when you start typing, the arrow cursor goes away. When a movie starts playing, after a few seconds the cursor fades (usually at the same time the playback controls do). This used to require developers to support explicitly, but it’s been around on the Mac since the beginning, nearly 38 years ago. The API call was, unsurprisingly, ObscureCursor()

Why you worry for the notch. As you can see, center of my menu bar is empty anyway. Even if a notch appears there, there was nothing anyway. So notch doesn't bother in any way. I could take same screenshot on my current notebook (Macbook pro 2019) and the notch location is empty there as well. Why you'd worry for empty space? If it can house camera and reduce bezels, increase screen square, i see only positives in that, actually that would be efficient use of screen estate.

Some design and productivity apps have an insane amount of menu items on the left plus the icons on the right like dropbox google drive and many other tools. They won't fit I guess Apple will add an arrow to expand what's hidden because of the notch.

Think the notch would have looked better blended into the bottom instead of sticking out like a sore thumb up top.

I don't think its just this forum somehow....

I could go on but I think you get the point. MacBook Pros getting a notch is quite newsworthy and many people think it looks ugly and serves no useful purpose that justifies this design decision. Not just on this forum, and not just on forums. So it doesn't come as a shock to me that MacRumours does not equal the entire world, fortunately I am not so blinkered.

A notch makes sense on a small device like an iPhone where you need every mm of screen real estate, but even so, people are clamouring for the day that the notch is removed. We accept the notch on the iPhone, which is not the same as liking it (although no doubt there are some that do). When Apple introduced a notch into the iPhone it came with a killer new feature, FaceID. Maybe if the new laptops also had FaceID it would go someway to justifying this 'pro' notch 'feature' as so many people seem to believe it is...

Finally I'm glad you get no value in these forums yet continue to contribute. I guess that is 'cool' too?

This one LG Gram 16 looks nice, thin and no notch

The Notchbook is a design failure, and will go as one into history, just like the Touchbar.

Well it wouldn't be Apple if they didn't add at least one boneheaded feature to drive people crazy. ?

If Apple built the "perfect" laptop... it would destroy the computing industry. Markets would collapse. Armageddon. Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria.

There always needs to be something wrong with every Apple product. It keeps MacRumors in business.

Notchbook a design failure? I agree... just like the TouchBar. And how many TouchBar Macs did they sell? People will buy them anyway.

:p

Those that own an iPhone X and later should not complain about a notch you’ve had for years now. Those that are complaining about the WEIGHT should not be complaining either. What you all should be complaining about is the PRICE on these laptops.

Single core only a bit better than current MBA/P M1’s but price is way more. You’d think with apple owning their own chips now they can price it much cheaper than with intel but of course that ain’t gonna happen.
Price is not way more. Spec up the base macbook pro 13” to similar ram/ssd and it is a reasonable delta

I don't care about the notch. I think after one day working with the new machines you won't see the notch anymore.
The machines are awesome. I am more than exited to test the performance from my new ordered M1 Max MBP14 vs my "old" i9 MBP16.

The 120Hz display is something I don't wanna miss in my iPad/iPhone. Happy to have it in a Macbook.

HDMI...well it feels like an good old day port. But hey how often I forgot my dongle to connect a beamer or presentation screen in a meeting. This port will make it easier for me.

Only thin with the HDMI port: its version 2.0. But I think 2.1 was not possible. The chip probably have 4 tb4 lanes with 40Gbit/s and HDMI 2.1 need 48Gbtis.
Now we have to live with only 4k@60Hz instead of 4k@120Hz.

no idea where this LG looks beautiful....the bezel is way to thick. The display is deeper than the bezel. Looks pretty ugly. Like nearly every windows laptop.

My point wasn't about the look, more about technologically possible to house a webcam within thin bezels. Apple is quite creative and innovative they could've fit a great webcam within those nice thin bezels. But it will be done in the future and presented as an upgrade.

I agree. Can't find a single fault. Meets my computing needs, has an outstanding keyboard and display, along with excellent battery life. Especially love the thinness and light weight.
