A smaller notch would be good sure but not something to really get excited about. Not until under display is ready

The notch is an ugly abomination that people will look back to and laugh about once it is gone entirely.
I am surprised Apple is having such a hard time getting rid of it when other manufacturers where already able to for a while.
That's because none of these others do have same tech Face ID like iPhone. They usually have one camera here and there, which they make it like a hole-punch or some hide it terribly under the display (awful) or some mechanical camera pop up, which they have already abandoned the idea now. These companies could come up with mediocre solutions and no one would give a damn. But Apple simply can not do that. And Apple does not play by the same rules these other companies play. Apple waits for the tech to mature while others compete who would be the first.

Thank goodness they aren’t going for a hole punch; I prefer the consistency and symmetry of a notch; I even prefer big bezels instead of a hole punch. Well, actually I prefer big bezels instead of a notch - I like it simple.

Kuo believes that the hole punches will come to some iPhones in 2022:

Yes, but face ID only uses two of a total eight sensors / elements that the notch contains. If it was just about face ID the notch would be as wide as it is high.
In fact i think face id use 3, not 2. However, the other sensors may not be necessary not face id, but are still neccesary, like front camera, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor. Under display cameras are crap yet. While face id exists, it would be somekind of notch there. Hope they get rid of it and use fingerprint sensor instead.

Yes, sir; I prefer a notch, but personally - for hole punches - I would prefer something symmetrical and bold like shown in the following picture:

But if the SE gets a simple hole punch, I would find it unnecessary and ugly.

That one pictured is actually even more or at least same invasive that the rumored notch. I would prefer a small punch hole instead, without a doubt

This is good. The Mini is really the only phone that struggles with the notch imo. You can tell the icons/text that belong next to it barely fit.

Kinda interesting that it seems the only size reduction changes Apple could make in 4 years was just to move the speaker up and keep the size of the FaceID components the same.

This is all such a bunch of crap. I was the first person in my office to have a Bellboy pager. It had two notification tones. I used one for the office and the other for my home. There was no display. You simply went by the tone to know who to call. Then, I got a digital pager. I could actually get a number displayed so I could call them back as soon as I could get to a pay phone. After that, I got an alphanumeric pager where people could actually send me a short text message. When I got my first "brick" phone, I was thrilled! It cost a fortune to make and receive calls, but I could actually talk to someone. Now, we have small cellphones that can do almost anything and all we're worried about is a notch? RIDICULOUS!!

I got my first notched iPhone in fall 2020.

After all this time I still find the notch moderately annoying. Not a deal killer but a definite negative.

BTW, during this time of Covid, Face ID has proven to be an even bigger annoyance. I really look forward to Watch unlock this month.

😂😂😂
Now the graphics! the wavy steps are too curvy and should be 90 degrees corners to go along.

On a serious note, I wouldn’t want to grab a phone like that anymore... would be great to know the ergonomics driving modern curved bezels (and all frame edges really, not only the corners). Fells like that impact distribution also improves.

what about those bezels...in 12 design they look much bigger
You caught it too! I’m surprised nobody else did. It does seem like the bezels have shrunk. There seems to be more room for display on the 13. You can see how both of the left edges are aligned, yet there’s noticeably more room for the display on the right for the 13.
