agreed. steve was very quiet about the graphics capability of this new mini...but the graphics power itself is not too shabby (there was an earlier post listing the specs of both this integrated graphics chip and the 9200)...apple would do well to educate more people about the improvements over the 9200 in using this integrated chipset...joeboy_45101 said:I think that Apple will have a serious problem on their hands if they don't combat this Intel Integrated Graphics problem. A cold reception is the last thing they need during and important transition like this. I'm not just talking about the Mac mini here, this Integrated Graphics has the potential of affecting the entire Mac line. What Apple didn't anticipate was that many people have had a lousy experience with integrated graphics chipsets. One of the categories that is missing from the Mac mini hardware info page on apple.com is "Graphics".
Mac users take the graphical performance of their machines very serious, if they think there is a compromise in performance then there is going to be Hell to pay. Apple needs to provide information about the graphical capabilities of the new Mac mini. People need to know what kind of improvement there is in using the Intel GMA chipset over the older ATI 9200. Customers need to understand what types of benefits come from change in design like this.
I stated earlier that I was really put off from buying a new Mac mini when I read about the integrated graphics, but if Apple is able to demostrate that their decision is a definite improvement then I may reconsider. I would much prefer dedicated graphics in the Mac mini, but if the integrated solution is not too shabby I might go ahead and buy.

- the new entry level price point (100$US higher, which is weird since it's only 70$CAN higher for us). 😀
- the Intel GPU that shares system memory
that's not right...their mini specs page lists the drive as 5400rpm...hmmm...unemployed said:wow 7200 rpm drives cool!
~Shard~ said:Cool, thanks. This was my thinking as well, but I wanted to check for myself and another member who had inquired about this as well. 🙂
Probably. And since the old one has a real graphics card it's probably still superior for many applications. WTF was apple thinking going with integrated graphics? That's like putting a rusty chassis on a race car. I have to say, this is the worst keynote apple has done since Steve came back in 97.Whistleway said:Do you guys think the old mac mini will be on sale at apple.com soon?
why is this the only thing people can fixate on? no, the $100 increase isn't good news, but there really are a lot of upgrades. 5400rpm drive, more USB ports, air express and BT standard, faster processor, faster frontside bus, remote, optical in and out. plus, the integrated card, while not great, is still better than the previous 9200. get over it already🙄chatin said:A hundred dollar price increase for intel integrated graphics. I'm glad to see intel is calling some of the shots for all of their development money! (not!) 😎
On what? Sorry, my router sucks and now the Apple site wont load....GRRR!!! Netgear you s0x0r5!dr_lha said:I smell a class action lawsuit coming on. 😉
How many switchers need all that? Show me a Switcher that NEEDS!!! BT standard and I will give you a Mac Mini for free.kugino said:why is this the only thing people can fixate on? no, the $100 increase isn't good news, but there really are a lot of upgrades. 7200rpm drive, more USB ports, air express and BT standard, faster processor, faster frontside bus, remote, optical in and out. plus, the integrated card, while not great, is still better than the previous 9200. get over it already🙄
I'm assuming the 7200rpm listed on the Apple website is a mistake, and its 5400rpm as specified on the Mac Mini spec page. I'm being pessimistic and assuming the lower speed is the true one.unemployed said:Am I missing something??

yes, you will need more ram...but even without the integrated graphics, you would still need more ram because rosetta is a ram hog.Gurutech said:You guys are missing something... (or perhaps I'm too picky?...)
Anyhow, the starting price of the Macmini is 599 USD. HOWEVER, it has only 2x256 Ram, and 799 USD one also has the same configuration of RAM.
With the shared memory graphic card thingy dragging Macmini on... we definitely need atleast 1 gb of memory don't we?
100 USD to upgrade from 2x256 to 2x512....
Well that makes 699 and 899 ...
It's not a switcher apple for sure...

The joke I was attempting to make was referring to the fact that there's currently a class action lawsuit against Apple because they failed to mention that when they say "20Gb" they mean 20,000,000 bytes and not 20,971,520 bytes. If that can be a class action lawsuit, mistakenly over quoting the drive speed can be also!
Sorry. I won't use a winky smily in future.
