A moral thief, how refreshing....

:p. Touché

----------

Apart from I'm not a thief lol. If you were forced to steal from someone, you'd hold say, Apple, and your family in the same regard? I would hope not.

Not even sure how this thread turned so much :D I guess everyone got bored of OPs arrogance and 175k car (lol).

People that are thieves, really are thieves. I truly hope that I never have to try to justify that it's okay to steal from anyone. Period.

dont you hate all the "you should haves" Ok here is mine: YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE DROPPED IT. :p

Ok, i think i know what happen. your buddy was playing Infiniti Blade and had to make a bathroom run at which point he quickly handed you the Ipad but it was too hot to hold-and starled you into dropping it. please go see a doc for your 3rd degree burn and a see a therapist for the mental trauma and if you live in CA the lawers will throw in pain and suffering and by the time the case is settled you can buy us all Ipad 4's . if that's not what happened- then check with your credit card company. best of luck. it is a mistake we could all make-never point fingers.

I wonder if we did some "forensic examination" of all you "holier then thou" folks hard drives how much "unpurchased" music just might be found. Oh, but that's OK, it's just music publishers.

Yes, it isn't right, but that isn't the point.

You know, I don't know why everyone is being so harsh on the OP. It's not like he's asking how to trick Apple into giving him a free one. Far as I can tell he has every plan of being honest with Apple but just wanted to know what the chances are Apple would be really nice to him.

Also, I think his point with the car is pretty much pointing at the people who are griping at him that he was stupid not to get insurance (his point being for him the iPad is little enough cost it's not worth it, he can handle the cost if something went wrong). I personally find it offensive that people are calling him stupid for not getting insurance. Some one like me, yeah, maybe (I can't afford another iPad if mine breaks), insurance probably is a good idea (depending on what the insurance is, sometimes it still isn't worth the risk). But if it's not a huge drop in the bucket I'd say maybe you're better off just taking your chances. It all comes down to what you can afford and risk/cost analysis (after all, even for me depending on how much the insurance is and how much they'd cover if something happens, insurance may not be a good deal).

I had an insurance company try to tell us my car couldn't be worth 6k because we didn't get collision on it. Some of you guys sound like that insurance company (their client was who hit us and whether I got collision is none of their business cause my car was being covered under their client's liability insurance as their client was at fault). And trust me, they were just trying to get out of paying as cheaply as possible.

WOW at the YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT APPLECARE responses.

Not that I'm against AC but to rub salt in an open wound when the person is already sad it kinda harsh.

Anywho none of us eally knows, you could meet a really nice assistant and get lucky.

I'm not in the US and had my iPad 3 bought by a friend and shipped to a US address, the day after they went on sale. It sat there for almost a month (just got it yesterday) when a friend visited over the Easter weekend. I was worried with all the issues being mentioned here about tint etc, but turns out other that getting a little hot my baby is perfect. I had nonetheless asked my friend to take it in to an Apple store and just for precaution have someone check it out. It was scanned and she was told it was good as there is a specific number/batch that they are await of that have issues.

That same friend have an iPad2 with a cracked screen cause by her 5 year old. She took it in and got it repaired for FREE. She was even given whatever parts/spare that comes in the kit. And the person who helped her told her, her warranty was up but nevertheless helped her. Now I know it's not the new iPad but it does hurt to try.

Good luck

First of all, imo, why do you need to even ask this question? You bought an item and you broke it, does it look like you will get a free replacement? And if you say you have that much money in buying cars, then a measly $500, in your case, should not be the problem...

Put yourself in Apple's shoes. What if you owned a business selling a high end electronic device and you even decided to offer an insurance plan to cover the device.

Put yourself in Apple's shoes. What if somebody had a legitimately ****** thing happen to them, and you hooked them up with a replacement for free.

You gain infinite customer loyalty.
You gain that customer telling other potential customers about their experience

Apple does do these things for a reason.

What are the terms for adding Apple Care+?

Something like: "Within 30 days of purchase" right?

and not: "Within 30 days of purchase, and you have to pinky promise you didn't already break it!"

Ethics discussions always just blow my mind... and the fact that the greatest people in the world seem to reside on these forums...

p.s. if you've sold all of your possessions and now take care of orphaned Africans in Africa, feel free to let me and everyone else have it!

Except its not always up to Apple per se. Its often up to a lame brain sales clerk or manager.

Happened to me too!

This happened to me in Dec. My husband gave me one for my birthday and my son dropped it onto a rubber mat in our car. There were 2 hairline cracks that went through it. So it was very very hard to get a picture of it. I went to Apple first and they said it would cost over 300 to repair it. She said that she really couldn't give me anything as far as paperwork. I went to Amex next and i know they have a policy for broken items purchased with their card. This was like jumping through hoops and became a huge pain. They wanted something in writing from Apple saying it wouldn't work anymore. Apple couldn't give it to me. Not sure why. My husband purchased this ipad at best buy. Amex couldn't see the hair line breaks in the ipad and so wanted more paperwork. My husband ended up taking it back to best buy but because he didn't buy their protection plan they wouldn't help us. Finally after him talking to many people and a manager they ended up replacing it, we bought a new protection plan on it and a super duper rubber cover. I have heard some bad things about best buy though replacing it. We must have caught them on a good day or maybe they just didn't want to listen to my husband anymore (as I sometimes tend to do).
