I went to check out the new iPad mini at the Apple Store today. I've been really excited about seeing them since the announcement. Unfortunately, I came away pretty disappointed.

I really don't like how iPadOS 15 handles the app layout and spacing on the home screen. The app icons generally seem too big for the mini's screen and poorly spaced in both orientations (not sure if this is customizable in the settings?).

I'm not one to typically fuss over borders but the ones on the mini just look too big. The device almost looks dated despite it having a complete design refresh. I feel Apple could have done a better job here. There's nothing Apple can do about the borders but hopefully they can improve the app layout through software. I still really want a mini.

The borders are no bigger than the ones on the Air and Pro.
Without them you'd be holding it by the screen.
Yes, the borders are no bigger than the ones on the Air and Pro, but the mini is a much smaller device. It can more comfortably be held by the edges, similar to all the minis that preceded this latest one that all had smaller borders.

Been playing with it for a day. I LOVE IT.

I got mine yesterday, and actually think the borders could be slightly bigger, but they'll do. Holding it for long periods of time just by the edges really isn't comfortable. Love it btw!

not a big fan of external storage solutions on a mobile device like this. my iPhone SE is using just above 64GB. Since the mini is going to be used for media consumption I expect to to use a few more GBs, but nowhere near 256.
Personal choice, I prefer it as I can connect the external SSD to the NAS, Mac and iPad.

Perfect design. A Mobile device that frustrates when...it...is...actually.....moved!
