Hmm, first impression is that the keyboard is awful. You won't pry my kickstand enabled surface pro out of my cold dead hands, that's for sure. It will be interesting to see all the people who cry that the surface pro isn't very stable on a lap (it actually is pretty stable but not quite as stable as a laptop), seeing this atrocity fall off of people's laps all over the world will be amusing.
I do kind of dig the floating design, I'm assuming I have this right that the tablet can actually float over the keyboard as it's pictured above? But you would have to have this on a stable desk, still pretty neat. I still think the kickstand on the SP's is a much much better design, especially if you want to use your tablet naked. I wish Apple would just get it over with and copy MS and incorporate a kickstand for the ipad. yeah I know it's going to add 2mm thickness (I'll venture to guess this ipad trackpad cover adds more thickness than a hardware kickstand would anyway), I'll take that trade off any day of the week, plus the area above the kickstand could be used for a slightly thicker and higher capacity battery, where with the trackpad cover it's just wasted space.
As for everything else it will be interesting to see how well an ipad can run with a trackpad. Part of the appeal of iOS (which personally I never really understood) is that apps have huge buttons for big fat fingers. Now iOS will have to deal with 2 different paradigms, are you using a trackpad for very fine selection or a big fat finger (and even a 3rd paradigm using the pencil for medium fine selection, oh Jobs are you not turning over in your grave yet?). Since the function of the ipad is to convince Apple users they need a Macbook and an iPad, I wonder how far Apple will toe the line in making the iPad PC like?
And finally... $299/$349? Bwhahhahahahhhahhaaaa........
