I said for so long how I refused to upgrade if they removed force touch but I find myself tempted to give the 11 Pro a try.

What happens if you long press on a link in safari? Or long press on a text in messages? Does this no longer bring up the “peek” function?
So now when you long press it brings up a preview of (whatever) similar to the "peek" and a contextual menu beneath it. To "pop" you have to tap on that preview. Think of peek/pop in iMessage but instead of peek and slide up for contextual options, it's just showing it all at once and you can't pop without a second tap.

0.5 mm does not seem like much, only until you compare it to the thickness of the battery, I do not know how thick the battery is on an iPhone XS but lets say 5 mm, this means the capacity could be raised by close to 10%, or an extra fe hours.

As an example, the iPhone 6 battery is only 3.1mm thick.

With the iPhone 11 Pro, Apple also increased the thickness of the device from 7.7mm to 8.3mm.

3D touch was a gimmick - a hardware-level feature that Apple touted as something unique but when you undress it, it was essentially a long-press.
In some cases it was similar to that, in others not so much. Even in the cases where it was it still benefited from being able to use 3D Touch for certain things and long press for others, while with Haptic Touch there is no longer that differentiator and thus either less options or all options have to be bundled together adding an extra step of choosing something. Hardly a gimmick, just that some people didn't care for it (which can be said pretty much about anything out there, including sliced bread).

3D Touch came in with a bang and is going out with a whimper. Was always a solution in search of a problem. Much prefer long-touch instead.

That does not work in messages. your only option is to long press and copy the URL, or, simply touch it and visit the page.

3D Touch, nor long press do any type of peeking. You now have to completely leave messages to view a URL shared in that app. A big step back.

3D Touch is objectively better than Haptic Touch. The "glad it's gone" crowd really sound nonsensical here.

I never understood the argument against it, especially since one could easily disable it in settings. But that goes into the poor education (from Apple) on the feature. Sadly I have encountered employees at Apple Stores that didn't know about it when attempting to explain new phone features to loved ones.

Interesting. What about saving a photo or selecting text? I know the photo was mentioned above but how do you save it now if you can’t slide it up?

Damn, I really am going to miss it. I thought it was one of the best features they announced back in the day. I really hate to see it go.

I can't believe game developers didn't take advantage of 3D touch at all. Lost opportunity gone forever. Game developers don't care about anything but ads and selling stupid loot boxes with 0.0001% chance of getting anything good.
Some nice games used it. Pubg uses it and it’s the main reason why I opted for an xs max instead. Lot of the first person shooter games use it, racing games use it as well. I use 3D Touch all the time, really shame the “pro” this year actually lost a feature

Say what you want, but that was an amazing feature and an ACTUAL Apple exclusive, something they actually have very few of hardware wise anymore

Nope.

Haptic Touch, on the other hand, is not essentially, but EXACTLY a long-press. And they are trying to brand it as a "feature."

I for one will really, really miss 3D Touch.

For a "Pro" phone, it seems like such a step backwards to ditch 3D Touch hardware for a longer, time-consuming, inferior option
Time consuming is a major stretch. It takes milliseconds longer. If you are in that much of a hurry, I really for you. Have you used a XR running Haptic Touch on iOS 13?

Write up some text. Force touch your keyboard, move your finger around. See how it's moving the cursor. Now press harder, see how it's now selecting text instead?

Most useful keyboard feature available on a smartphone. And no, pressing and holding for 1 second to get "cursor" mode is not the same thing. You can't select text past that.

They aren't going to add support for something that isn't available on many devices. Apple has sold at least one non-3D Touch iPhone the whole time it existed. They would have to find a way to implement it that improves gameplay worth the compromise of potentially alienating the devices that didn't have it.

3D touch gimmick also died with the prior Blackberry Storm from 2008.

I mean, it’s not completely gone, if somebody wants a supporting iPhone model like the iPhone 8, you can still have 3D Touch, you just obviously lack certain things like Face ID and new advancements.

But for those who actually truly understood how 3D Touch was operated, it really was a useful feature. But I also think the writing was on the wall for 3D Touch for quite some time, being even third-party developers stop supporting certain peak/pop features, given Apple never really marketed 3D Touch the way they should have from the beginning, similar to ‘Live Photo’s’.

3D Touch was simply an option to check on or off on game. Wasn’t a must use feature

You can select text if you tap on the keyboard with another finger while long pressing. Might not be as smooth though.

I always thought it was a gimmick, but now that it’s gone the shortcuts on the wake screen are a terrible idea. I am constantly activating the flashlight on my Xr just trying to grab my phone from my car’s center console.
