it offered GREAT tangible and efficient benefits:
accurate mouse/pointer control for text selection and insertion between letters. magnifying glass was getting too long in the tooth.
Peep n Pop - like the TouchBar without useful applications of the tech, and much like BlackBerry/RIM of old failing to advertise technology means nobody is aware of it.

.3/5mm drop in screen thickness will barely amount to 1mAh of battery storage increase. Apple just is pinching wherever it can to save a buck/unit. OLED surely can implement 3D Touch.
While I will miss 3DT full functionality when I update to the next iphone, I hope apple has some good use for the space they saved. Other than to save a penny or two.

This is why I’ll stick to my 8+ for another year.

No 3D Touch means no pressure sensitivity on my brushes when I paint, no velocity control in my synth when I compose music and no charge control on my avatars when I play games.

Apple, you suck.

Same. iPhone 8 Plus for the years to come. 3D Touch is too valuable for me. On a random note, may I ask what you use to paint on your 8 Plus?

There’s always been something addictive about using 3D Touch, kinda like popping bubble wrap. I guess that’s where the longer battery life comes from; the haptic engine does look like it took up a fair amount of space.

Whoever thinks 3D touch is a gimmick means they never used 3D touch to the fullest. Peek and Pop is very useful, especially when I want to save an image. Peek, slide up, and then there is a menu for me to save. Also, 3D touch the camera app to take a "selfie" is super convenient. Quick check up before seeing a client or having a business meeting. This is sad.

This is one of the few last true innovation Apple had for the iPhone that was ahead of its game.

I use 3D a lot during the day. Not planning on getting the new phones at this point but I’ll miss this feature when I do upgrade.

In other words; Haptic Touch is all software based, 3D Touch was hardware. Makes sense they would do this as the pressure sensitivity never offered any tangible benefits.
I think it was just “one too many” features looking for a problem. I don’t think many people actually knew about 3D Touch anyway. I literally have to lock my iPhone when I set it down because my fat, dumb fingers will activate random features just trying to pick the think up off the nightstand.

It was feature overload. At some point it’s like playing with 3D modeling apps... you get mouse clicks in Left, Right, center, mouseover, double-click, slow double click, Second-hand mouse click... [then you can press control-altL-Shift-window-option-Fn-apple-altR-any keys for more clicky features] at some point most people are just getting confused because they “didn’t push the mouse good” and they don’t even know why.

After one of these presentations I actually went thru the most used apps on my first few screens and only about one-third of them
Even had a useful 3D Touch option. So even Devs aren’t supporting it very well.

I can't believe game developers didn't take advantage of 3D touch at all. Lost opportunity gone forever. Game developers don't care about anything but ads and selling stupid loot boxes with 0.0001% chance of getting anything good.
The time when people actually made good stuff with hearts and minds is long gone. Everybody wants to make quick money.
Does this mean no more moving the cursor with the spacebar?? That's my all time favorite feature on iOS!!
No. You still get space bar cursor function. But, that one is vastly inferior to force touch, given that you cannot move cursor down very much, only up, left and right.

A few games did use it.

Ain’t she sexy ? :)) hell yeah but we all know haters gonna hate .Who gives a s...t ? We still gonna buy it

As a XR user I have gotten used to not having it, but there is no denying that 3D Touch was always superior. Hopefully iOS 13 alleviates some of haptic touch’s shortcomings.

Personally, I'm going to miss AutoPencil with Puzzazz's TouchWrite handwriting recognition on my iPhone X. I use it every day so it's a significant reason not to upgrade (and I've been thinking of switching to a Max). I haven't looked at the haptic touch specs, but I don't see how we can reasonably support an equivalent to AutoPencil without 3D Touch.

(I'm assuming they have a reasonable replacement for the 3D Touch-based keyboard trackpad; I use that much more often than AutoPencil, because it works in every app not just Puzzazz.)

Given they have now removed a feature, where is the commensurate price drop...?

Price held, rather than going up with inflation so in real terms it's slightly cheaper in the US. Buy it with an Apple Card and get 3% cashback.

You get better battery life, a better display, an additional camera, improved video, tougher & more waterproof finish, a faster processor, upgraded charger & a free year of TV+ subs. But you know all that, and you're not obliged to buy one anyway.

I like 3D Touch & it's a shame it's being removed, but lets keep some perspective FFS.

Write up some text. Force touch your keyboard, move your finger around. See how it's moving the cursor. Now press harder, see how it's now selecting text instead?
It doesn't do that on mine. Force touch to move the cursor, press and hold to start selecting text. There's no second level of force touch for me (XS, IOS 12)

I never adopted it in my apps, the main reason was the lack of support on the iPad. When last year they introduced the Xr without 3D touch it was absolutely clear the feature was about to be ditched. I only seldom use it and next year when I'll change my Xs I won't really miss it.

3D touch was a gimmick - a hardware-level feature that Apple touted as something unique but when you undress it, it was essentially a long-press.

You’re incorrect. People who uses 3D Touch like myself loves it. Now when I’m reading articles on the web I have to be careful when scrolling slow because placing my finger on a hyper link, it invokes a long press when I don’t want it to, it’s either that or select text. It’s very very annoying. It happens to me every day since I’ve installed iOS 13 on my phone. I have to actively think where to place my finger on a webpage when I’m scrolling slow now. Basically when you put your finger on the screen you have to scroll right away to avoid invoking a long press. No longer can take my sweet time reading and scrolling. This is definitely a step backwards.

Hi, can I clarify that if one installs iOS 13, I would lose 3D Touch on my iPhones that support it? Thanks.
