This is the best blog I found that deal with all the patent lawsuits related to Apple... Looks like 2014 is the earliest date for any resolution and it does not look particularly strong.... I disagree that the patent lawsuit is not important. Just think about a place like China where there is no law to protect any intellectual property, there is no incentive to invent anything. They basically copy everything from everywhere and call it their own. Copying is easy, Samsung get their phone out in 3 months while Apple took about 5 years (check out the argument in Apple vs Samsung case). If there is no protection on the invention, there will be none and we will all be poorer because of the lack of invention. Is it fair? is it good for the society as a whole?

All seven patents-in-suit are homegrown Motorola patents. That is relevant in two ways. On the one hand, it makes sense given that the ITC threw out five patents Google gave to HTC for the purpose of asserting them against Apple. On the other hand, it is a safe assumption that Motorola picked its strongest patents before, and is now suing over patents that it previously considered less strong than others. Prior to this ITC complaint, Motorola had already asserted more than two dozen different patents against Apple, which it preferred over its other patents, including the seven it pulled out now.

The '370 patent is the only one of the seven patents to have been asserted in prior litigation at all. It is at issue between Motorola and Microsoft in the Western District of Washington, where the parties' infringement claims are currently stayed. Motorola claims in its ITC complaint that Apple must be aware of the '370 patent "at least through its monitoring of" the related Motorola v. Microsoft case.

The ITC will undoubtedly open an investigation of this complaint within about a month. The target date for the investigation will likely be somewhere in the first half of 2014.

So does that mean this won't affect the iPhone 5 or any apple products till 2014??

There is no good guy and bad guy! If you break it into a moral issue then they are both... evil because they aren't being nice. They only exist to make money! I mean... You can't say "haha, Apple deserved this" it's a game of risk or... idk, some complex board game or computer game or something. People try to get moral and then they just sound like they are ignoring something. Naw, pick a company you like, or a result you want and root for them, or don't root, but it's not a moral issue. No company is being... good or bad, they are trying to make money. Follow them like a sports team, or... idk. Well, that's what I do at least haha, I guess I'm sounding just as preachy as anyone else :p

Umm Google has more money then apple for their size. You need to do some rresearch.

Uhh... maybe you should. Got any way to back that up? Pretty much anywhere I look, it says Apple is worth more than Google and Microsoft combined. And they have over twice as much in cash than Google.

Guys, we talk, discuss, debate etc., and they're making money on our backs :).

Now, seriously, Apple is the biggest and worth company on Earth! I would really like to know how much invested Apple into development in comparison with Google - Motorola! As someone here said, I quote: "Apple has twice more money in cash as both Google Motorola and Microsoft together" ... And, not forget: Android is a STOLEN code from OSX and iOS! And I use both iOS and Android devices, iPhone 5 and Galaxy Note. I love iPhone for the way Apple made it! But I hate the management of Apple regarding this device.

Cheers.

U are resuscitating an obsolete thread. Google is not stopping the iPhone, otherwise why would they labor making a new Map App for it.
