New iPhone 5 Cases Suggest Longer and Wider Form Factor

I wish I had a vacu-form plastics mold. Could be knocking out these "cases" every time a good rumor needed igniting. Aside from the object to mold around, the process would take minutes to form and trim.

That's getting pretty big. We'll see. Maybe it's the iPT like others have said.
Seems like a tapered back would screw with some of the apps that have levels and plumbs and use the flatness for settings like labyrinth, but I guess Apple doesn't really care about that.

Well it does seem to fit with the rumors saying that the screen will be edge-to-edge looking at the front lip of the iphone 5 case being really thin compared with the iphone 4.
This isn't a post to prove any points, just a story.
A couple of weeks ago I went for a ride. While at the gas station I pulled out my iPhone 4 and fumbled it. I tried to grab it but only succeeded in swatting it into the pavement. I picked it up with visions on shattered glass only to find an intact phone. *phew*
I think everybody else is just dropping their phones wrong.
I remember seeing friends, and co workers with shattered screens on their iPhone 3G's and also remember having dropped mine twice, with the screen very much in tact without a scratch.
"New Case Designs Revive Unlikely iPhone 5 Design" is starting to sound a little foolish now, isn't it?
A few people asked about the volume switch, if you look in this picture you can see where a 3GS style volume switch would go, it's under the plastic, no holes for it.
It could be an iPod Touch but I'd be disappointed if the Touch had a bigger screen than the phone. And if apps work on one it'll work on both so why not?

I suppose I might like this new design, depending on how much difference in weight there is. And whether this marks the end of exposed antennas.
Very exciting! My poor iPhone 3G is barely chugging along anymore, and my contract ended 2 weeks ago. BRING IT ON!
On these small computer gadgets (seriously, they're not phones), I'll take .4" wider here and .3" taller there any day! It will either make the screen a tad larger or it will give my hand/fingers more place to rest without engaging the touchscreen.
Anyone else expect similar Smart Covers to the iPad on next iPhone?
One of the key features for me is the Retina display. I am all for a 4" LCD, but I want the same DPI and Retina as the iPhone 4 has on the larger display. It needs to be more than 960x640 for sure if it's going to be 4" diagonal.
Additionally, I have been thinking ever since the ipad 2 was introduced that Apple will definitely make a Smart Cover for the iPhone 5. I don't like the bumpers and they do nothing to protect the screen. I also don't like plastic sticker screen protectors as the glass feels so much better on the fingertips. I really want a Smart Cover that works similar to the iPad 2, except I want it to fold around to the back with one motion somehow. Nice if it stands up properly too.

Ugh. That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Looks like I will be sticking with my iPhone 4 for a while longer. Damn it Apple not everything has to be thinner. The new iPad 2 is so thin it is uncomfortable to hold and virtually makes it useless, most likely the same could be said for this monstrosity.
Its a good thing you're not on the industrial design team because the sales numbers are working against your opinion.

iPhone 4 = best looking phone ever. And what I like the most about it is its size. I'm sure a lot will like the larger screen but the only way I would accepted this is with same size but smaller bezel. Good thing I bought my white iPhone 4 just a month ago, the battery will last me longer.

You're only saying that because u can't upgrade when this comes out! Hahaha I have to judge in person if I'll like the bigger screen, I absolutely hate how huge some of those Android phones are
In grand total, the rumors of the new iPhone looking like a "thicker" 4G iPod touch but with a slightly curved 4" touchscreen is true.
It will be interesting to see if the new iPhone has near-field communications (MFC) capability, especially if it's compatible with the Sony FeliCa standard for NFC. If the new iPhone supports FeliCa, that will finish off much of the "feature" cellphone market in Japan, to say the least.
