When is someone going to realize that Ivy is an idiot. It's almost as if he doesn't even use his own products. The iphone cant even recognize a phone number in the Reminders pane. It still is this tap small x's ********. They need to buy Flipboard and put those guys in charge. Hell it still takes me 4 or 5 times to turn off an alarm button. Ivy is an idiot. Not to mention Siri can't even understand "Get me directions to the nearest gas station". Ivy probably doesn't even drive himself anymore. Not to mention browsing on a mobile is a ****en joke. And I'm a fanboy.

Very funny!! When you rant, try and get his name right.

Ok so I guess now you're rubbing his face in it ?
Go troll somewhere else man.

On another note , I love the metallic blue

I don't think this is trolling. It's reminding everyone that the man who is seen like a god by many people on these forums, clearly got it wrong.

I think it's worth not believing everything a multi-billion dollar company says - all they want is your money and they'll tell you anything they can get away with to keep you handing over your cash.

Ugly bezel, why cant they get rid of it?? We need as much real estate as possible!
Not bad looking though.
No interest in 4.7 inch, 5.5 inch would be required for me not to move to android

Congratulations, now you're the one whining and complaining. Steve had a logical reason behind saying 3.5" was the perfect size...and your argument is "bigger just makes sense"? You really make an impressive case. :roll eyes:

Big phones are goofy looking, clumsy and the opposite of practical. I've always snickered at those ridiculous Android phablets and I'm certainly disappointed Apple seems to be going that route. Will I buy the 6 anyway? Yep, I'll be there day one for the smaller of the two...and you're right, I'm sure I'll learn to love it. However, from a practicality standpoint, 3.5" was perfect.

I don't really think I'm whining nor complaining, but whatever. I think that most people are just holding Steve on a pedestal, and taking his words as gospel. If there was never a 3.5" iPhone, and we directly started at 4", there would maybe 1 person who ever brought up have a phone that is <4" would be "perfect" and anything bigger is stupid.

I think the problem is saying or thinking the size of the screen could ever be perfect. There are always trade-offs. Perfect for what? Making phone calls? Perfect for surfing the web? Perfect for looking at porn? Perfect for playing games? Perfect for watching videos? Perfect for typing a quick note? Perfect for using the calendar? The whole decision of the screen being setup for your thumb to reach the entire surface is fine, but that is only one aspect of usability.

Also, just to point out, no one really cares what you look like when you are talking on the phone. ;)

I don't think it looks ridiculous at all. I hardly ever make phone calls the "old fashioned" way anymore, and I rarely see others do as well. Text messaging makes up all of my communications during the day, and when I'm home in the evening I'll make calls but I use earbuds. Better quality and I can talk and do other things at the same time. The times I've actually held my iphone up to my ear can probably counted on one hand. I don't know why the comparison is always made to those old small flip phones everyone used to use. Those things were literally just phones that you held up to your head. Smartphones aren't used the same at all.

Anyway, on the subject of the renders, was anyone else reminded of the Xperia Z2?

OMG this phone has bezels. Where is the anti-bezel ripping this phone to shreds?

I think there will be no bezel, it will be a glass wrap around in line with patent applications that came out in the last year. In addition their pixel bending patent allows them to gain back altogether 3/8" (.375"). So they would only ned to expand diagonally .325". So without a bezel, this would be even less of an increase than the minor one shown earlier in the comments by the overlay with a bezel. It will be a beautiful sapphire glass enclosure all around, or according to another patent, shaped to snap into possibly a metallic back, probably aluminum.

It can be an amazing piece if Apple's patents are able to be implemented in this next upgrade. I would think it would take years for competitors to match. Can't imagine Apple investing so heavily in the sapphire plants if they weren't gearing up for manufacturing.

But, that being said, why the assumption that there won't be now 3 iPhones in the lineup.

- iPhone 5C replaces the 4 and 4S and is priced at the 4 level. ($0 with contract)

- iPhone 5S stays as the high-end 4" (16GB $99, 32GB $199)

- iPhone 6 becomes the luxury market piece for an additional $100. (Sapphire, A8, longer battery life, higher memory) (32GB $299, 64GB $399, 128GB $499)

I think the 5.5" rumored device will actually be called an iPad Touch with built in LTE option so it can also be used as a phone or just with a data plan. Maybe replacing the iPod Touch (Or, the iPod touch with an upgrade simply becoming the iPod.) Starting price without LTE would be 299.

Perhaps 4.7 is the best for you?

can't choose between the 4 and the 5 inch! will be a difficult choice to make.

I have been in a similar situation: I thought my iPhone 5 screen (4") was too small for text input and for reading text on several apps on the one hand, and on the other hand, I thought my Xperia Z screen (5") lead to a too big phone to get a good handy grip of - it was just a little bit too big (wide) to hold in one hand in a good manner.

The solution at present for me is an Xperia ZR with a 4.7" screen, which is a for me ideal screen size and also an ideal size for the phone itself to hold in the hand.

I will be very interested in a coming iPhone with a 4.7" screen, for that may just be very very fitting!

why do people think the 5.5" phone is anywhere close to an iPad in terms of size. have you ever seen two side by side? it will still be a called a phone.

Looks a lot like the Galaxy S5 but with a round home button.

It's a rectangular device, like 100% of smartphones.

People need to look beyond the hardware and start to realise it's about SOFTWARE SOFTWARE SOFTWARE! This is where Apple is lightyears ahead of its rivals such as Google & Microsoft.

The iphone 6 is starting to look more and more like an android device and less like an iPhone. Its not a bad thing, but I would like apple to keep that unique look to their phone instead of it looking like every other device.

Funny how some are saying the rumored larger version of iPhone 6 looks similar to a Samsung S5. I don't hear copying as would be applied to Sammy. Could it be some features are generic to a device and it is okay to use those generic features without being accused of stealing them as Apple and it supporters like to do? Just saying.....

Those huge devices acting as phones are the latest gimmick to drive people to buy smart-watches. So people will justify paint for another device that "makes sense" to reduce the size of the device that is put next to your head for talking over the phone.

Isn't this basically moving the industry back to the 90s like when Palm Pilots and PDAs or digital agendas were used in tandem with a cellphone? people were carrying around two devices or more to accomplish something.

Nowadays some people even carry all day long 4 devices: a smart watch, a laptop, a tablet and a phone. And don't forget those hug he headphones and the CarPlay unit in the car.

I've yet to see a smart watch in the wild ... I don't know if they really have a future

----------

Oh look, another person who hasn't picked up a bigger device! They fit in the pockets just fine.
-

They don't, it doesn't matter how hard you try, phablets don't fit in the pockets fine.
They barely fit, and they are just awkward to take there ....

----------

Oh look, another person who needs the size of his smartphone for his ego.

anyway I have used devices up to the lg flex with its 6" display. I just doesn't work for me, since it's still meant to be a phone.

Anyway it seems I am not as ignorant as you are as I am ok with different device sizes. If Apple would do as you say and only makes big devices - no harm done - there are finally some really good options in the android part of the smartphone universe with smaller footprints like the sony z1 compact

I'm with you.
If Apple will fail to deliver a truly pocketable smartphone (and 5+" droids AREN'T !) at a reasonable price (729€ is my limit), I'll jump ship and Sony Z1 compact is very interesting (or maybe Z2 Compact in the future).

----------

No, it sure isn't. What has that got to do with your poor self esteem?

It is not about me.
It is about you ... If you like to be ridiculous holding a pan to your hear during a phone call, feel free.
At the end of the '80/ start of '90 mobile phones were huge .... Today the situation is different

While the 6 look incredible, I'm just kinda bored of Apple's phones costing such a huge amount of money.

I'm an iOS power user on iPad but on iPhone just use the stock apps and a few obvious ones like Google Maps and Twitter. For £249 or less I can just go get a Nexus 5 and it's fast and does obvious stuff well enough.

I think the Smartphone market is maturing. The first CD players cost a bomb but after a while only a small % of the market bought high end expensive units and most of the market use mid-range and cheapie models as they were good enough.

You are right. We are debating about form factor, but the price is a real problem here ...
But I don't think the nexus is a fair term of comparison ... They are selling it at a very low price on purpose

They don't seem to be embarresed.....maybe because there are millions around them that have phones the same size?

One of the subjects of the photo wrote an article where he said it was embarrassing to make a phone call with a device so huge.
Maybe you don't care, like many people out there don't care about having a crest over the head, but surely I do. And it's not about the look, is about the comfort and the practicality of a device supposed to be carried around almost all the time.
You are, right, there isn't a perfect size and different users have different needs, but surely 5.5-6" is not the right size for a smartPHONE.

Who's Ivy?

Maybe he is referring to Ive ?

Looks a lot like the Galaxy S5 but with a round home button.

These renderings are pretty ugly... I wouldn't go quite that far though.

I really need the big one.

No, you don't. Nobody needs "the big one" or any of them to be honest. I want an upgrade really badly, but my iPhone 5 is already a lot better than a lot of people can get for various reasons. Even in today's world, you still should try not to be so ignorant and entitled.

Youre not. Glass back was the most premium looking and feeling iPhone to date.

Not to mention the most commonly broken! In all seriousness though, the iPhone 5 and 5s have the best design of all iPhones to date (and better than the designs presented here for sure) After owning my iPhone 5 since pre-orders shipped in Fall '12, I can't believe I ever liked the design of the iPhone 4 I had previously.

Steve was wrong.

How so? Most iPhone users I know, including myself, won't upgrade if they make the phone too big to fit in their pocket. If they make a huge version -- which I still think they shouldn't, like I said they shouldn't make the iPad mini -- then they had better keep a smaller one around or they will alienate a ton of loyal users.

Steve was never wrong.

Steve Jobs was a human like the rest of us, he was imperfect and therefore was occasionally wrong. I recall him being excited about iTunes Ping, saying people will love it. He was a great man in most respects, but Apple fans still need to keep him off a pedestal; most of the hardware, software, and services you know and love from Apple during Steve's lifetime would exist even without him, especially toward the end of his life. He took the credit for a lot of things that were really the genius of others working at Apple under his lead.

That's what I'm thinking all the time. Intelligent software design can compensate a lot for the one-hand-useage problems. Spreading frequently used functions in all directions to the far top, bottom and corners is contraproductive in this regard. Move all the navigation within the thumb's reach and it might be enough for 80/20. Making large screens significantly easier to use with one hand would be a competitive apple-like feature.
