They're nice 'n' all. Apple's ads have grown so dramatic, so lofty, so theatrically serious. I guess I miss the "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" campaign, which was just pure fun.

Not convinced about the iPhone on the bars nonsense though because I know for a fact you can't use the touchscreen in any meaningful way when it's soaking wet. You need a capacitive screen for that, like on an Edge 1000.

did you perhaps mean resistive?

great ads IMO. Surprised they are touting the water resistance so much given that it is not covered under warranty. Must be pretty confident. (Apple is already known to purposely understate water resistance capability)

from this video the waterproofing seems to be quite a bit beyond what it's rated for. By no means scientific, but seems to be pretty close to the S7 which is rated IP68.

No. The Edge 1000 is capacitive. Must be a different type of capacitive from phones though, should have been more clear on that, but I just don't really know much about them. Other than Edge 1000s can work in wet, with gloves etc, and phones can't, not even closely operate as well.

a practical question :
how does the screen touch behave when it's covered in water / water drops ?
My Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, though waterproof, is not actually usable when wet. Water interferes with the screen capacitive touch feature, producing hectic ghost inputs all over the place (the android UI goes nuts). Nevertheless, sony phones having a dedicated physical side button to focus / take a picture in the camera app, Sony came up with a specific underwater mode which disables touch screen input in camera mode.

What's up with the iphone 7(+) on this subject ?

edit: ps. putting a lot of trust in that bike mount. that dude is NUTS for not having a case on that thing.

I'll echo the warranty thing as well. I like the water "resistant" idea. I'd use it as last resort, but not something I would purposely or knowingly use as a feature, i.e., if its raining like that outside, I'll just ride without the phone.

Also, these commercials are no where near realistic.

I guess if you have money to burn it doesn't matter, or if you just can't stand the look of a case
but besides the protection of a case I like the kickstand so you can read or watch a video and the hip clip for biking etc
Even a case doesn't guarantee that your phone will live but it sure does help, and if you can't stand the antennae lines or the camera bump it fixes those as well!

Beautiful ads, both. Funny, they use the two new black colors in the ads, the two phones that are most difficult to purchase. Driving demand for colors that are all ready way undersupplied. weird.

The Water-Resistant iPhone 7

Water damage not covered under warranty.

But no way you'll get that on a modern smartphone. A new type of screen will need to be developed to satisfy all requirements.[/QUOTE]"

You must not use the great "Hey Siri" capabilities of your iPhone, and they have gotten even better with iOS 10. Try it, then you'll know a different fact.;)

Only time will tell because I would assume this was reviewed by Apple's Legal team and they felt the text at the end of the commercial saying liquid damage not covered under warranty. Again, if the device functions as it's supposed to, there should be no liquid damage on that ride as there are gaskets preventing water from entering

The problem is that the phone will likely fail if subjected to conditions beyond what's shown in the commercial. But there's no way to determine that's what happened by inspecting a water-damaged phone.

The implied message is that if your phone suffers from water damage, Apple will assume you exceeded the water exposure recommendations, thereby voiding any warranties, expressed or implied.

I think it is disappointing photos taken by real users look nothing like the photos Schiller showed during the presentation.

Not trolling :
Is it even legal to advertise a feature which in case of defect isn't covered by the warranty ?
Jeeps gotten away with it for decades wcommercials of Wranglers splashing through water deep enough that "in the real world" could easily cause damage not covered by the warranty. So who knows? :)
