Has anybody else here noticed that the lightning port shown seems much more waterproof?

The people I know that own an iPhone don't have a case; so I'm always bewildered when I read this statement. Is there any statistics that has been researched about this alleged majority of iPhone owners putting their iPhones in cases and put in an article?
I think to remember having heard an 80% number from a reliable source. Where, eg, Apple would count as reliable (though they only had the phone to case sales ratio in their own stores which less than 50% of all iPhone are sold through or they have statistics on phones coming in for service).

I don't mind the camera bump at all tbh.

As for the lack of innovation, at this point I really care mostly about the software. The phone just needs to be good enough to run it. I'll consider getting this one if iOS 10 is exciting enough.
I think it's more that any case will make the camera bump irrelevant anyways.

I use my 6S+ without a case and the bump hasn't bothered me at all.

87% of iPhone owners use a case apparently :)

Quote taken from https://www.npd.com/wps/portal/npd/...case-to-protect-their-phone-according-to-npd/

"For instance, nearly 9-in-10 iPhone owners (87 percent) use a protective case with their phone- higher than the average for all smartphone users"

I like how everyone cries about the camera bump when almost every other phone on the market has had a bump 6x bigger. This is probably a 1mm flare in real life and it probably protects the lens a bit.
I'm sure 1000 people have said this, but what is anyone REALLY expecting? Are we expecting them to make it fold out into a 65" TV with 12" subwoofers? It's a pretty mature platform, so "lack of innovation" is part of the deal in form. It will always be a rectangle that you hold and touch.

I will stick to my 2 year old iphone 6 and go another year. I dont see the point in upgrading. I'm still on ios8 anyway.

The new iphone in the fall is gonna have what? Better camera? Faster processor? Better battery? Big freakin deal. thats not worth paying $600 for, no thanks.

Secondly i never understood the fascination with having a case for your phone. Its not a damn ferrari its a freakin phone for cripe sakes. The cases make it more bulgy in your pocket and half em dont even protect it. To protect you gotta have and otter box which is even worse.

My Alcatel Idol 4S looks better... And it has a VR headset free in the... Wait as the box.

Na just kidding. I'm an Apple nerd and will happily pay the 1.238 dollars (in Denmark for a 128GB) again to get a new iPhone that looks like my phone from last year, and the year before that. It's just like with people. It's the inside that counts ;-)

The bigger camera makes me wish it were centered like every other modern phone in existence, but Apple gotta' have its logo I guess.
As already said, the logo is quite a bit further down from the camera. No, the likely reason is that centered at the top is the loudspeaker (the one needed when you hold your phone onto your ear when having a phone call). It is one the other side of the phone but it does need some depth which would not be available for the camera module if it were placed centered behind the top loudspeaker. Alternatively you can just make the camera bump bigger, but that doesn't seem to be very popular here either.

What a lot of other smartphones have is a camera that is lower (thus not interfering with the top loudspeaker) but then needs to be behind the display which again restricts the depth (and the battery competes for space there as well). That is usually solved by camera bump as well, just one that makes the bump less steep and more spread out.

A new video and images posted to Chinese microblogging site Weibo and picked up this morning by NWE offer a side-by-side comparison of an iPhone 7 casing against Apple's current flagship iPhone 6s.

iphone-7-vs-iphone-6s-00-800x600.jpg

Embedded below, the new video runs to over two and a half minutes and gives a much better idea of the prospective design than last week's seven-second clip.

Whatever the origin of the assembled 4.7-inch iPhone 7 unit, it matches the Space Grey of the iPhone 6s, and features the larger camera and repositioned antenna bands seen in previous images and alleged design leaks. It also clearly shows a lack of headphone jack, with a second speaker grille alongside the Lightning port where it used to be.

The model comparison offers an idea of the relative size of the new camera lens and the surrounding bezel that protrudes from the body of the phone. The video and images also line up with previous rumors suggesting the iPhone 7 will retain the dimensions of the iPhone 6s.

The real problem with Apple imho is that they completely lost touch with reality.

Macbook with 1 port only at almost double the price of the Air?
Same iPhone design for 3 years?
No 3d touch on the SE?
No reasonable upgrade or no upgrade at all on ALL of the Macs in years but keeping the same price tag?
Make stuff thinner again instead of finally addressing #1 customer wish - battery life?
iPadPro at almost 700 at base config? Still no intl keyboard
Biggest feature showcased in WWDC is iMessage which is ignored mostly outside of the US (where most of the rev is generated)

Glad Angela Arendts finally sorted the retail store and now everyone wears a different color - well worth her 82 million salary.

This company has 100 billion in cash and this is the best they can do?

How can this possibly be from the same company that made the beautiful iPhone 4? When the 4 came out, SJ compared it to a Leika camera, what are they going to compare this to?
When the iPhone 4 was left in a bar and it appeared on here, everyone complained about how ugly it was saying there's no way Apple would release something so industrial. There were countless people saying it just didn't live up to Apple's classy and smooth aesthetics.

People complained wildly about the iPhone 5 and 6 before they came out too. This phone is no different, but wait until you see it in person and in Apple's renderings and professional photographs. While it's disappointing to see almost the same design as the 6, and the large footprint of the phone compared to the screen size, it's still going to be a beautiful device. And there will certainly be software and hardware improvements we aren't even aware of yet.

I know everyone has different priorities, but an improved camera and water resistance would be enough for me to want to upgrade even without knowing the other capabilities of this new device.

Ew. They need to color blend the antenna lines better on the light colored iPhones.

I went looking at the Samsung G7 and 7edge yesterday and didn't even notice any antenna lines. I am not sure what kind of reception they get, but they did at least find a way of mitigating the look of the antennas--perhaps with all the ridiculously fragile glass. The iPhone still feels like a more solid, better put together device, though.

It will be interesting to see the final specs and final release iterations.

Why do so many people care what a phone looks like vs. what it does. How shallow can you be - so if it did everything you ever wanted but wasn't beautiful because the camera sticks out you would think it was bad. What a shame. Do you folks wear it around your neck so people can see how pretty it is or other than using it sits in a case in a pocket or purse, etc.
Does it do what you want it to do. How about looking pretty but not functioning - I think you folks would prefer that.

Some people do care about appearance as much as or more than functionality. I'm not one of them, partly because I keep my iPhone in a case. My decision about upgrading from my 6 Plus will be based on performance and features, but I can see where others may be more concerned with external design.

Let's remember the good old days...

Sure. The good old days...

Cracked_iPhone_4.png

Then you defeat the purpose of a beautiful design by covering it up with a case. Wait for iPhone 8 in 2017. Back to the iPhone 4 series and those good old days you speak of...

I've watched that video again, is it just me or does it look like the bigger cut out could be for a zoom as part of the camera?
