Where to go?

I'll be getting one at 10:00 AM!

:D Fortunately, my local mall has both AT&T (Cingular) and an :apple:Retail outlet... Unfortunately, I am unsure of which one to run to first. Worst nightmare is only having the 4GB units left, and contemplating a purchase of a machine with less storage just to play with one. Can anyone speculate if this will be a mob scene, or what? If so, I am not sure I want to be involved just yet.

Having portable internet and Safari's touch functions is what makes me most excited about the iPhone.:D

I have been going through life for the past 3 months considering each time I wish I had a portable internet connection to do some productive work related task (ie. not fun and pleasure), and there are a surprising number of times having an iPhone would have saved me considerable time and resources. Something on the order of $300 of real cash could have been saved directly in the past 3 months in my case alone, and whatever added business might have come from it which I did not pay close enough attention to to identify.

And next Apple needs to do this for Leopard. How many times have we all said, "Come Apple. Demo some of OS X's features to the masses."

They do demo OS X in action. Online. And in person when possible. And they cover details in print ads.

A TV ad can show a simple, 3.7" phone UI that is unlike anything else. But it can't show a complex 20" high-res computer UI and make it seem enough unlike Windows to be more meaningful than it is confusing. People are already afraid to try new things--scaring them off with a whirlwind Mac demo on a low-res TV broadcast would be a bad idea.

What a TV ad CAN do (and the current Mac ads seem good at) is get people interested so they pay attention to the places where Apple does demo their OS, like apple.com.

Im pretty hyped about the browser too. I look forward to things like being able to access Basecamp, Gmail, Google Reader etc on the road without having to bring my Macbook with me.

I wonder if jobs will be announcing any other features about the iphone that we dont yet know about at wwdc...

I'm sure, here are my hopes:

iChat (maybe VOIP, and quite likely, with Jabber, but not as cool as the next hope)

3rd party apps (Adium, Skype and S/NES emulators would be awesome - possibly only apple-approved through the iTS)

GPS (Possible, and we've seen clues, such as 'Directions' in an ad)

Ability to use it as the Apple Remote

Whatever happens, iPhoneLinux will be awesome...

Thanks for the update

edit - just watched, cool ad, the music sounds asian though....

that's what i was thinking. Do you think apple/developers will charge?

I like the concept. Again, here's hoping that this type of ad can be adopted for the Macs as well. I think there are a lot of great features you could show that would interest potential switchers.

Do you have something against asians?! haha. Kidding. Anyways, I'm stoked, I'll be in europe til July 2nd though, won't be one of the firsts to own one. Sad face. :/

I think some will, hopefully there will be a way of getting them free (unlike games, I think)

However, like mentioned, iPhoneLinux will be awesome in a short while (hopefully up and running well by the time the iPhone comes to the UK) :)

I am certain that it will be a mob scene. Don't forget that even after all the units are gone, the mob of people just wanting to see the display units in action will not subside. I'm predicting fairly strong mobs for the first week at most Apple stores, with supply meeting demand in the latter part of July (able to get one just by walking into a store 3-5 weeks after launch, but no sooner).

Apple's rep is indeed the very thing I'm fearing for. And sure they may have put in a lot of effort in this whole iPhone thing but, in the end it's still the consumer that decides. If sales are too low it bombs. Even if it's a great product. And the price point doesn't help.

But I'm being cautious with my claims and ideas. We don't know all the details yet. And may very well become a huge hit. I really hope that it does.

I mostly agree. But considering the iPod halo effect, I should think it would do very well. We all fear a "cube" product, but Apple is on top of all of the list of coolest companies, best CEO's, must buy list, not to mention it will be all over the news when it gets released. I know many a kid that will demand this item in addition to thier Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, iPod, etc. And we will all buy one as well. I imagine that demand will be constant throught the holidays and until the middle of next year, when Apple release the 3G version in the US and we all buy it again.

We all fear a dud product...but Steve could crap in a box and put and Apple logo on it...and we would buy it.

OOOPS, 2nd Try at iPhone Video

Sorry about that guys, it was my first YouTube post and they killed it.

I just uploaded an AppleTv quality export 10mb, see if this one is better. It took a while to upload and forever to process.

It's not too bad, should I upload a 50MB File?

I think this is my favorite one so far - Safari's scrolling and zooming looks very cool. I just hope it's as snappy and smooth as that in real use.

I really can't wait to get my hands an iPhone. Shame I'll have to wait, like, 5 months for it!!!

:(

Thanks a lot for uploading, at any quality - way to get on it quickly! We'll probably get HD versions from Apple some time today, so don't sweat the quality.

The iPhone ad and AAPL

My favorite part of the video capture of the new iPhone ad is how the Apple's stock cruises by on the bottom of the screen. When this ad 1st played (This capture) it was trading at $123.23 up $.56 cents, now it's currentlly at $123.85 up $1.18 on a terrible day for the market that has almost every stock trading down. Almost every stock...

Enjoy

Apple has the right to gloat about how the internet on their phone is "real". But if you get a smartphone with wifi, the internet isn't that bad...I have an x50v pda (NO PHONE) and the screen is vga and teh net is pretty good. However, apple has a point - on a cell phone (i.e. I have a razr), the web is completely crippled. Once I tried it - it took 20 minutes just to get an e-mail! I never connected to the net through my phone again.

dam,
The iPhone is better than I expected from the Apple.com.
These commercials attest that this product will sell like hell.
Time to buy Apple stock.

I hope Cingular (AT&T) have better reception in San Diego than few years back.
I hated them back then.
