I hope Cingular (AT&T) have better reception in San Diego than few years back. I hated them back then.

Its got to be better than Sprint. Im in South Park and can not even get a signal in my office, or in my house in North Park (Sprint is awful here). My contract ended last month - just in time!:)

Someone should be making a note of the names of the people who keep ringing up the iPhone user. Are they all fictional?

Well, I am in La Jolla. My Verizon is fair here.
Pac Bell, was Cingular and now AT&T was terrible. Not sure if they are any better now.
I am thinking purchase the iPod and use for 3 days and if the service is sucks I'll returned and Keep my Verizon and wait for the iPod 6g that might be just like the iPhone without the phone part of course!:D

Where to go?

I am certain that it will be a mob scene. Don't forget that even after all the units are gone, the mob of people just wanting to see the display units in action will not subside. I'm predicting fairly strong mobs for the first week at most Apple stores, with supply meeting demand in the latter part of July (able to get one just by walking into a store 3-5 weeks after launch, but no sooner).

<<GROAN>> That's what I thought.... Being the pessimist about the long wait since Jan. getting even longer. I suppose a drive-by after the mall closes on the 28th to see if there are any campers will be in order, lol. There's also been some rumor that some AT&T retailers will be staying open to release them at the stroke of midnight, but more rumors saying that they'll be stocking only about 40 units per store is dismal.

NOW HIRING:
Person to camp out and secure spot in line. Pays very well.
J/K, lol

I have been going through life for the past 3 months considering each time I wish I had a portable internet connection to do some productive work related task (ie. not fun and pleasure), and there are a surprising number of times having an iPhone would have saved me considerable time and resources. Something on the order of $300 of real cash could have been saved directly in the past 3 months in my case alone, and whatever added business might have come from it which I did not pay close enough attention to to identify.

Rocketman

I second that, Rocketman - I cant drag a laptop to my work (Marine business) - but I always have my phone.

Why would I NOT get one?

Only problem - Canada isnt quite on the list as yet....although we hear rumours of Rogers having it in June........

it's just... the internet... minus Flash, video, and sound! :)

Good. I dont want or need Flash (gag me), video (I can watch it later at home) or sound - thats not true, of course there will be sound.

I want easy and visual email, voice mail, and web, plus I want to listn to music and podcasts while driving to and from jobsites and NOT missing any calls.
Thats a money maker for me.

You sure about that? Just curious.

Edit:

I sorta assumed that it would do Flash because of this comment from All Things Digital:

12:42pm - But the iPhone doesn't REALLY have the whole OS X operating system on there...

[SJ] The answer is: yes it does! The entire Mac OS is gigs, a lot is data. Take out the data -- every desktop pattern, sound sample -- if you look at Safari it's not that big. It's REAL Safari, REAL OS X. We put a different user interface on it to work with a multi-touch screen... it's an amazing amount of software.

click a link!

Has anyone else noticed that not one single time ever in any of demos of the web browser do you ever seem someone actually "click" a link to go to a new page? Steve never did it once during the keynote. I assume you tap it with your finger but how does it know if you want to simply zoom in or actually go to that link?!

Because you double tap to zoom.

Actually, Steve Jobs does click a link. At one time or another, he is browsing on Amazon, and he checks out the DVD section, I believe.

Maybe it's time to move out of your quiet little red-neck po-dunk white-trash mountain town. ;)

(It's from South Park, btw...just a little joke)

Hmmmm....you may be right! I'll have to rewatch the video.

Because you double tap to zoom.

Ummm...I know that. That doesn't have anything to do with what I said.

Call / Hangup buttons wrong way around!

Just noticed this, but even Motorola followed suit on this and changed their phones...

The call button was on the right, the hangup on the left in this video.

That would be really annoying, I used to have an old Moto. company phone and I was always hanging up instead of answering it, now all Moto phones have swapped the buttons to follow suit.

Hi I'm a smartphone!

I wonder when they're gonna run version of the "I'm a Mac ads"?

Hi I'm a smartphone, and I'm a an iPhone. Hey nice buttons smartphone - my grandad wore a a human interface tunic like that. Aghh iPhone you're naked - you've only got one button.............!

Last iPhone 50MB upload

Took an hour to upload a 50mb version.

It's as good as it gets! It's a little better than the first two, and definitely better than the one on the Rumor cover page! Hint, hint MacRumors editor....

Nice ads Chiatt-Day!

Flash has not been confirmed.

arn

Flash wasn't working in the Macworld Keynote. When Steve goes to NYT page, there is flash video in the middle of the page, and it showed up as just white space on the phone's browser.

So there was no Flash for sure in the early version.

EDIT:After just watching the new commercial, the very same section of the NYT that was whited out during the demo now appears to have something there..... Pause the YOUTUBE video at about 10 seconds (20 seconds on the countdown).

Go to newyorktimes.com, and check the same section, its a video.

Flash on iPhone, maybe?

Whilst this is a good feature of the iPhone, why haven't they showed the zooming in feature by moving to fingers further away from each other, thats a really cool feature!
